Case: A 17-year-old adolescent boy complained of plantar pain at the first metatarsal 2 months after a catfish spine injury. Imaging was consistent with a retained foreign body, and surrounding osteolysis was concerning for osteomyelitis. He underwent surgical debridement and was found to have inflammation and necrosis, apparently caused by catfish spine venom.

Background: Lesser toe metatarsophalangeal joint (MTPJ) instability, secondary to plantar plate tear, has been the focus of numerous recent publications, the majority reporting on repair through a dorsal approach. A plantar approach has been described with the advantage of direct ligamentous repair or repair to bone, which follows conventional techniques employed throughout the body. Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) is a growing technique that favors faster recovery and cosmetic results. We propose a recommended osteotomy position or "MIS Sweet Spot" to make the procedure more reproducible and lessen the learning curve to improve outcomes. A total of 211 patients from 3 surgeons between 2 different study centers were included in a retrospective radiograph measurement analysis and a cadaveric dissection to confirm the safety of nearby anatomical structures.

Patients with diabetes mellitus are at elevated risk for secondary complications that result in lower extremity amputations. Standard of care to prevent these complications involves prescribing custom accommodative insoles that use inefficient and outdated fabrication processes including milling and hand carving. A new thrust of custom 3D printed insoles has shown promise in producing corrective insoles but has not explored accommodative diabetic insoles.

It is unknown whether ultrasound findings and symptoms of Achilles tendinopathy in runners correlate with foot strike patterns. Irrespective of implant system used, most commonly, bone cuts are made in the anterior to posterior direction and may potentially injure the posterior neurovascular structures and tendons running close to the ankle joint. Fibrolipomatous hamartoma is a rare benign congenital overgrowth of fibroadipose tissue in the nerve sheath. While usually affecting the median nerve, the digits of the hands and feet are sometimes affected and may result in macrodactyly, which is referred to as macrodystrophia lipomatosa. We present a rare case of fibrolipomatous hamartoma in a 6-week-old female's foot with macrodactyly and syndactyly and discuss its presentation and radiologic features.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate patients' knowledge of the professional training between doctors of podiatric medicine (DPM) and orthopedic surgery doctors (MD or DO), patients' confidence in understanding these differences, and factors that are important to patients when selecting a provider. A 28-question survey was administered to new patients who were referred to the foot and ankle service in an orthopedic department.
