C-type lectins (CTLs), as a member of pattern recognition receptors, play a vital role in the innate immune response of invertebrates to eliminate micro-invaders. In this study, a novel CTL of Litopenaeus vannamei, namely, LvCTL7, was successfully cloned, with an open reading frame of 501 bp and a capability to encode 166 amino acids. Blast analysis showed that the amino acid sequence similarity between LvCTL7 and MjCTL7 (Marsupenaeus japonicus) was 57.

Because it is difficult to isolate standard antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) using traditional biochemical approaches, we designed, synthesized, and evaluated a series of structurally altered histone-derived AMPs (HDAPs) from the pearl oyster Pinctada fucata martensii using molecular cloning approaches. Four histone-homolog genes (PmH2A, PmH2B, PmH3, and PmH4-1) were identified, of which PmH2A and PmH2B had yet to be described. PmH2A and PmH2B were therefore cloned using Rapid Amplification of cDNA Ends (RACE) and characterized.

Implanting a spherical nucleus into a recipient oyster is a critical step in artificial pearl production using the pearl oyster Pinctada fucata martensii. However, little is known about the role of post-translational modifications (PTMs) in the response of the pearl oyster to this operation. Lysine acetylation, a highly conserved PTM, may be an essential adaptive strategy to manage multiple biotic or abiotic stresses.

Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) have been implicated in a variety of biological processes. However, most ncRNAs are of unknown function and are as-yet unannotated. The immune-related functions of ncRNAs in the pearl oyster Pinctada fucata martensii were explored based on transcriptomic differences in the expression levels of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), microRNAs (miRNAs), and messenger RNAs (mRNAs) in the hemocytes of P.

A mutant strain Δ was constructed by using homologous recombination method for investigating the function of the gene in type Ⅲ secretion system. The genetic stability of Δ was detected by PCR, and the biological characteristics between the mutant and the wild type strains were compared. Δ muntat had no significant changes in growth rate and autoagglutination compared with the wild type strain, but the ability to form biofilms was reduced, and the was increased by 16.

Fisheries College of Guangdong Ocean University, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Aquatic Animal Disease Control and Healthy culture, Guangdong Province Famous Fish Reproduction and Breeding Engineering Technology Research Center, Zhanjiang, 524088, China.

This study presents the first incidence of intersex associated with testis-ova in spotted scat (Scatophagus argus) reared in a controlled environment. The testis-ova is associated with the abnormal occurrence of primary oocytes (POs) in some male testis and is referred to as ectopic primary oocytes (Ecto-PO), whiles individuals with Ecto-PO are called "Ecto-PO gonad/individuals." We investigated gonads of 129 male spotted scat aged 4-12 and 18 months after hatch (mah) by histological studies for the presence of female sexual characteristics.

Lysine succinylation is a novel protein post-translational modification associated with the regulation of a variety of cellular processes. Post-translational modifications may regulate the immune response of Pinctada fucata martensii, a marine bivalve used to produce cultured pearls, in response to the surgical implantation of the seed pearl. This allograft-induced stress response may lead to transplant rejection or host death.

Fisheries College of Guangdong Ocean University, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Aquatic Animal Disease Control and Healthy Culture, Zhanjiang, China.

According to the whole-genome bioinformatics analysis, a heme-binding protein from Nocardia seriolae (HBP) was found. HBP was predicted to be a bacterial secretory protein, located at mitochondrial membrane in eukaryotic cells and have a similar protein structure with the heme-binding protein of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Rv0203. In this study, HBP was found to be a secretory protein and co-localized with mitochondria in FHM cells.

Trypsin-like serine proteases (TLSs) play various roles in dietary protein digestion, hemolymph coagulation, antimicrobial peptide synthesis, and, in particular, the rapid immune pathways activated in response to pathogen detection. The cultured pearl industry, of which Pinctada fucata martensii is one of the most important species, is plagued by disease, thus leading to large economic losses. Herein, the molecular mechanisms underlying the innate immune response of P.

Unlike mammals and birds, many fishes have young sex chromosomes, providing excellent models to study sex chromosome differentiation at early stages. Previous studies showed that spotted scat possesses an XX-XY sex determination system. The X has a complete Dmrt3 copy (termed normal) and a truncated copy of Dmrt1 (called Dmrt1b), while the Y has the opposite (normal Dmrt1, which is male-specific, and a truncated Dmrt3 called Dmrt3△-Y).

Protein lysine acetylation is an evolutionarily conserved post-translational modification (PTM), which is dynamic and reversible, playing a crucial regulatory role in almost every aspect of metabolism, of both eukaryotes and prokaryotes. Several global lysine acetylome studies have been carried out in various bacteria, but thus far, there have been no reports of lysine acetylation for the commercially important aquatic animal pathogen In the present study, we used anti-Ac-K antibody beads to highly sensitive immune-affinity purification and combined high-resolution LC-MS/MS to perform the first global lysine acetylome analysis in , leading to the identification of 1,097 lysine-acetylated sites on 582 proteins, and more than half (58.4%) of the acetylated proteins had only one site.
