Background: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a disease related to inflammation. Proinflammatory cytokines such as interleukin 17 (IL-17) can induce cancer cell proliferation, metastasis and immune escape. Although NSCLC immune escape is partly due to the interaction between PD-1 and PD-L1 and PD-L1 expression can be upregulated in cancer cells upon stimulation with IL-17, the underlying mechanism of IL-17-triggered PD-L1 gene transcription in NSCLC cells remains elusive.

This research aimed to assess the prognostic relevance of the hypoperfusion intensity ratio (HIR) concerning 90-day outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) managed within the early intervention window. A retrospective review was conducted on AIS patients who received pretreatment computed tomography perfusion imaging and endovascular thrombectomy due to large vessel occlusions in the anterior circulation between January 2020 and September 2022. Clinical data, including the Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score (ASPECTS) from non-contrast CT, along with perfusion metrics such as ischemic core, hypoperfusion extent, core-penumbra mismatch, and HIR, were analyzed.

Background: Ventricular fibrillation (VF) is a vicious arrhythmia usually generated after removal of the aortic cross-clamp (ACC) in patients undergoing open-heart surgery, which could damage cardiomyocytes, especially in patients with left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). Amiodarone has the prominent properties of converting VF and restoring sinus rhythm. However, few studies concentrated on the effect of amiodarone before ACC release on reducing VF in patients with LVH.

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) exhibits a high incidence globally, with the liver being the most common site of distant metastasis. At the time of diagnosis, 20-30% of CRC patients already present with liver metastases. Colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM) is a major cause of mortality among CRC patients.

Immune functions decline with aging, leading to increased susceptibility to various diseases including tumors. Exploring aging-related molecular targets in elderly patients with cancer is thus highly sought after. Here we find that an ER transmembrane enzyme, sterol O-acyltransferase 2 (SOAT2), is overexpressed in regulatory T (Treg) cells from elderly patients with lung squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC), while radiomics analysis of LSCC patients associates increased SOAT2 expression with reduced immune infiltration and poor prognosis.

Association of Dietary Intake of Vitamin A With Adolescent Hypertension: A Cross-Sectional Study Based on NHANES 1999-2018.

Food Sci Nutr

January 2025

Department of Cardiology The Affiliated Suzhou Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Suzhou Municipal Hospital, Gusu School, Nanjing Medical University Suzhou China.

We aimed to investigate the association between dietary intake of vitamin A and risk of hypertension during adolescence. We interrogated the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database, from which individual-level data on dietary intake of vitamin A were garnered from 13,909 adolescents (aged 10-19 years) participating in the 1999-2018 study cycle. After dividing vitamin A intake into four quartiles, we leveraged weighted multivariate logistic regression to investigate the association of vitamin A intake with hypertension by each quartile, with the restricted cubic spline (RCS) curve plotted to assess the nonlinearity of association.

Background: Secreted frizzled-related protein 1 (SFRP1) inhibits Wnt signaling and is differentially expressed in human hair dermal papilla cells (DPCs). However, the specific effect of SFRP1 on cell function remains unclear. Telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) representing telomerase activity was found highly active around the hair dermal papilla.

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a leading cause of pain, disability, and reduced mobility worldwide, characterized by metabolic imbalances in chondrocytes, extracellular matrix (ECM), and subchondral bone. Emerging evidence highlights the critical role of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in OA pathogenesis. This study focuses on lncRNA PTS-1, a novel lncRNA, to explore its function and regulatory mechanisms in OA progression.

Brentuximab vedotin (BV) is an antibody-drug conjugate that combines the CD30 monoclonal antibody with the microtubule-disrupting agent, monomethyl auristatin E, which induces apoptosis in the tumor cell upon its release from the conjugate. The safety and efficacy of BV have been assessed in several studies in patients with T- and B-cell lymphomas. This article reviews the currently available data on the distribution of CD30 expression in T- and B-cell lymphomas, as well as the various levels of CD30 positivity cutoff used in the literature.

Patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) typically have an average or higher bone mineral density (BMD) but are at a significantly higher risk of fracture than patients without diabetes. Trabecular bone score (TBS) is a textural index derived from pixel gray-level variations in lumbar spine DXA image, which has been introduced as an indirect measure of bone quality. This study aimed to discuss the trends and annual rates of change in BMD and TBS with age in Chinese men with T2DM and men without diabetes mellitus.

Laminaran potentiates cGAS-STING signaling to enhance antiviral responses.

January 2025

School of Life Science and Technology, China Pharmaceutical University, Nanjing, China; Department of Biomedical Science, City University of Hong Kong, Kowloon, Hong Kong, China. Electronic address:

Cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS)-Stimulator of interferon genes (STING) signaling pathway, an essential element in the innate antiviral immune responses, has emerged as a key component of innate immune system to modulate type I IFNs production and response by recognizing both exogenous and endogenous DNA. Although some cGAS-STING signaling small molecule agonists have been developed, there are few natural polysaccharides reported to activate cGAS-STING signaling for the treatment of infectious diseases. Here, we reported that Laminaran, a low molecular weight β-glucan storage polysaccharide present in brown algae, potentiates cGAS-STING signaling to promote type I IFNs production and antiviral response.

Biol Direct

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Geriatrics of Jiangsu Province, Department of Geriatrics, The First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, 300 Guangzhou Road, Nanjing, 210029, Jiangsu, China.
