Background: Previous studies suggest that frailty increases the risk of mortality, but the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and all-cause mortality in Chinese community-dwelling older adults remains understudied. Our aim was to explore the effect of frailty on cardiovascular and all-cause mortality in older adults based on a large-scale prospective survey of community-dwelling older adults in China.
Methods: We utilized the 2014-2018 cohort of the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey and constructed a frailty index (FI) to assess frailty status.

Background: Accurate preoperative prediction of cervical lymph node metastasis (LNM) for papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) patients is essential for disease staging and individualized treatment planning, which can improve prognosis and facilitate better management.
Purpose: To establish a fully automated deep learning-enabled model (FADLM) for automated tumor segmentation and cervical LNM prediction in PTC using ultrasound (US) video keyframes.
Methods: The bicentral study retrospective enrolled 518 PTC patients, who were then randomly divided into the training (Hospital 1, n = 340), internal test (Hospital 1, n = 83), and external test cohorts (Hospital 2, n = 95).

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a common malignancy in Southeast Asia, and in the Guangxi and Guangdong provinces of China. The spermatogenic transcription factor zip 1 (SPZ1) is a member of bHLH zip family, and promotes tumorigenesis in the liver, colon and breast tissues. However, the role of SPZ1 in the progression of NPC is unclear.

Developing immunosensing platforms capable of simultaneously detecting multiple cancer markers is crucial for clinical diagnosis and biomedical research. Here, we introduce a novel dual-mode electrochemical biosensing assay platform capable of detecting two gastric cancer biomarkers: pepsinogen I (PG I) and pepsinogen II (PG II). Methylene blue (MB) and Prussian blue (PB) were used as dual signal sources to label PG I and PG II, respectively.

RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) have pivotal roles in cardiovascular biology, influencing various molecular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). This review explores the significant roles of RBPs, focusing on their regulation of RNA alternative splicing, polyadenylation, and RNA editing, and their impact on CVD pathogenesis. For instance, RBPs are crucial in myocardial injury, contributing to disease progression and repair mechanisms.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is a genetic disorder caused by mutation of the NF1 gene that is associated with various symptoms, including the formation of benign tumors, called neurofibromas, within nerves. Drug treatments are currently limited. The mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase (MEK) inhibitor selumetinib is used for a subset of plexiform neurofibromas (PNs) but is not always effective and can cause side effects.

Background: There is growing evidence that concentrations of environmental pollutants are previously associated with cardiovascular disease; however, it is unclear whether this association reflects a causal relationship.
Methods: We utilized a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) approach to investigate how environmental pollution affects the likelihood of developing cardiovascular disease. We primarily employed the inverse variance weighted (IVW) method.

Gut Universe Database (GutUDB) provides a comprehensive, systematic, and practical platform for researchers, and is dedicated to the management, analysis, and visualization of knowledge related to intestinal diseases. Based on this database, eight major categories of omics data analyses are carried out to explore the genotype-phenotype characteristics of a certain intestinal disease. The first tool for comprehensive omics data research on intestinal diseases will help each researcher better understand intestinal diseases.

Objective: To identify factors influencing recurrence after percutaneous transhepatic choledochoscopic lithotripsy (PTCSL) and to develop a predictive model.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed clinical data from 354 patients with intrahepatic and extrahepatic bile duct stones treated with PTCSL at Qinzhou First People's Hospital between February 2018 and January 2020. Patients were followed for three years and categorized into non-recurrence and recurrence groups based on postoperative outcome.

Background: There is growing evidence that concentrations of DNA methylation are associated with cardiovascular disease; however, it is unclear whether this association reflects a causal relationship.
Methods: We utilized a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) approach to investigate whether DNA methylation can affect the risk of developing cardiovascular disease in human life. We primarily performed the inverse variance weighted (IVW) method to analyze the causal effect of DNA methylation on multiple cardiovascular diseases.

Background: American College of Radiology (ACR) Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (TI-RADS, TR) 4 and 5 thyroid nodules (TNs) demonstrate much more complicated and overlapping risk characteristics than TR1-3 and have a rather wide range of malignancy possibilities (> 5%), which may cause overdiagnosis or misdiagnosis. This study was designed to establish and validate a dual-modal ultrasound (US) radiomics nomogram integrating B-mode ultrasound (BMUS) and contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) imaging to improve differential diagnostic accuracy and reduce unnecessary fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) rates in TR 4-5 TNs.
Methods: A retrospective dataset of 312 pathologically confirmed TR4-5 TNs from 269 patients was collected for our study.

The aim of the current study was to evaluate the association between the AST/ALT ratio and prognosis in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma after hepatectomy, and to explore the role of underlying liver diseases as mediators.
Methods: This retrospective study included patients with hepatocellular carcinoma who underwent hepatectomy between January 2014 and January 2018 at two Chinese hospitals.

Background: Entecavir and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) are standard first-line treatments to prevent viral reactivation and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in individuals chronically infected with the hepatitis B virus (HBV), but the long-term efficacy of the two drugs remains controversial. Also unclear is whether the drugs are effective at preventing viral reactivation or HCC recurrence after hepatectomy to treat HBV-associated HCC. This trial will compare recurrence-free survival, overall survival, viral indicators and adverse events in the long term between patients with HBV-associated HCC who receive entecavir or TDF after curative resection.
