AMPK and its Activator Berberine in the Treatment of Neurodegenerative Diseases.

Neurodegenerative disorders are heterogeneous diseases associated with either acute or progressive neurodegeneration, causing the loss of neurons and axons in the central nervous system (CNS), showing high morbidity and mortality, and there are only a few effective therapies. Here, we summarized that the energy sensor adenosine 5'-monophosphate (AMP)-activated protein kinase (AMPK), and its agonist berberine can combat the common underlying pathological events of neurodegeneration, including oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, mitochondrial disorder, glutamate excitotoxicity, apoptosis, autophagy disorder, and disruption of neurovascular units. The abovementioned effects of berberine may primarily depend on activating AMPK and its downstream targets, such as the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), sirtuin1 (SIRT1), nuclear factor erythroid-2 related factor-2 (Nrf2), nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB), phosphoinositide 3-kinase/protein kinase B (PI3K/Akt), nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+), and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38 MAPK).

DACH1, a novel target of miR-218, participates in the regulation of cell viability, apoptosis, inflammatory response, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition process in renal tubule cells treated by high-glucose.

This report was designed to assess the functional role of miR-218/dachshund family transcription factor 1 (DACH1) in diabetic kidney disease (DKD) and investigate its possible molecular mechanism. From the GEO database, we downloaded different datasets for analyzing the expression of miR-218 and DACH1 in DKD. TargetScan was adopted to predict the binding sites between miR-218 and DACH1, which was further verified by dual-luciferase reporter assays.

Association between ambient particulate matter and hospital outpatient visits for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in Lanzhou, China.

Until now, a number of epidemiological studies have focused on the association between ambient particulate matter pollution and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), especially in developed countries. There are limited evidences on the association between short-term exposure to particulate matters (PM, PM, and PM) and overall hospital outpatient visits for COPD at the same time in China. Thus, a time-series analysis on the short-term association between three subtypes of PM (PM, PM, and PM) and daily hospital outpatients for COPD in Lanzhou, China was conducted, from 2014 to 2017.

The Spectrum of MYC Alterations in Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma.

MYC, as a powerful transcription factor, plays a vital role in various cancers. The clinical significance of MYC alterations in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) has been investigated for a long time. In this study, we comprehensively summarize the different alterations of MYC in DLBCL, including MYC overexpression, MYC translocations, MYC mutations, and increased gene copy number of MYC.

The correlation between infections by human papillomavirus types 6/11 and 16/18 and mammary gland hyperplasia with glandular thickening.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the correlation between human papillomavirus (HPV) type 6/11 and 16/18 infections and glandular thickening mammary gland hyperplasia in order to explore methods for preventing glandular thickening mammary gland hyperplasia. A total of 240 patients with glandular thickening mammary gland hyperplasia who were treated by surgery in our hospital from January 2012 to June 2017 were enrolled in the present study. The hyperplastic breast tissue and adjacent normal breast tissue were taken to test HPV type 6/11 and 16/18 infections using conventional PCR and in situ hybridization techniques.

A prospective, randomised double-blind study on the anaesthetic effect of dexmedetomidine hydrochloride in brainstem tumour surgery.

Context: Brainstem tumour surgery is difficult, and accidents can easily occur.

Objective: To explore the effect of dexmedetomidine hydrochloride on brainstem tumour surgery.

Design, Setting And Participants: A total of 60 patients with brainstem tumours successfully operated on by our hospital from March 2016 to March 2018 were selected as subjects.

To explore the effect of 18β-sodium glycyrrhetinic acid on thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) in nasal mucosa of allergic rhinitis (AR) rats. One hundred Wistar rats,half male and half female,were randomly divided into 5 groups by random number table method: control group, AR model group,budesonide group,18β-sodium glycyrrhetinic acid at dose of 20 mg/kg and 40 mg/kg groups, with 20 rats in each group. AR animal models were established by ovalbumin (OVA) sensitization in the other four experimental groups.

In this study, we used 89 EC tissues and HEC-1B, Ishikawa, RL95-2 and AN3CA EC cell lines.

Aims: To investigate the effects and mechanisms of DLL3 in inflammation-mediated A2058 melanoma cell invasion and metastasis.

Materials And Methods: Melanoma A2058 cells was stimulated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS), with or without transfection of DLL3 siRNA, or DLL3 overexpression vector, or Twist1 siRNA. Cell migration and invasion were detected by wound healing and transwell invasion assay.

Hypertriglyceridemia and hyperuricemia: a retrospective study of urban residents.

Background: The aim of this study was to determine the association between hypertriglyceridemia and hyperuricemia (HUA).

Methods: The study was conducted in 3884 subjects who had not received medication enrolled as a baseline. Each participant received at least three annual health check-ups between 2011 and 2017.

[Effectiveness of P-Gemox chemotherapy combined with radiotherapy in newly diagnosed,stage ⅠE to ⅡE, extranodal nasal type natural killer/T-cell lymphoma].

To investigate the efficacy and safety of pegaspargase, gemcitabine, and oxaliplatin(P-Gemox) chemotherapy combined with radiotherapy in the treatment of newly diagnosed, stage IE to IIE of Extranodal nasal type natural killer/T-cell lymphoma(ENKTL) patients. P-Gemox chemotherapy combined with radiotherapy was used to analyze its clinical value and the factors affecting the prognosis in the treatment of 43 newly diagnosed ENKTL patients. In addition, toxicity related to chemotherapy was assessed.

Reporting, presentation and wording of recommendations in clinical practice guideline for gout: a systematic analysis.

Objectives: We systematically analysed recommendations from gout guidelines as an example, to provide a basis for developing a reporting standard of recommendations in clinical practice guidelines (CPGs).

Design: Systematic review without meta-analysis.

Methods: We systematically searched MEDLINE and all relevant guideline websites (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, National Guideline Clearinghouse, Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network, WHO, Guidelines International Network, DynaMed, UpTodate, Best Practice) from their inception to January 2017 to identify and select gout CPGs.

[Jinghuaweikang capsules combined with Quadruple therapy in the treatment of infection:a multicenter,randomized,controlled,clinical study].

To explore the efficacy of Jinghuaweikang capsules combined with Quadruple therapy in the treatment of ()infection. Patients who were infected with in 7 centers in Gansu Province were recruited in this prospective simple randomized study. All the patients are divided into four groups randomly: patients in Group A1 were treated with esomeprazole (20 mg, twice a day) + pectin bismuth (200 mg, three times a day) + amoxicillin (1 000 mg, twice a day) + clarithromycin (500 mg, twice a day), while Group A2 with Jinghuaweikang capsules(160 mg, three times a day) based on group A2, Group B1 with esomeprazole (20 mg, twice a day) + bismuth pectin (200 mg, three times a day) + amoxicillin (1 000 mg, twice a day) + furazolidone (100 mg, twice a day) and Group B2 with Jinghuaweikang capsules(160 mg, three times a day) based on group B2.

Multimodal therapy and twenty years of valid management of a patient with chronic hepatitis B in a less developed Western Region in China---case report and review of the literature.

Background: For patients with chronic hepatitis B and cirrhosis in less developed western regions in China, due to constraints of local economic conditions, the choice of treatment measures is often limited. However if patients recieved valid management and effective treatment, they were able to maintain their health and benign prognosis.

Case Presentation: This study narrates the long-term treatment and careful follow-up of a patient with chronic hepatitis B and cirrhosis in a less developed western region in China, and analyzes the prognosis of the disease and countermeasures.

Biomarkers enhance the long-term predictive ability of the KAMIR risk score in Chinese patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction.

Background: The Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events (GRACE) score is recommended by current ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) guidelines. But it has inherent defects. The present study aimed to investigate the more compatible risk stratification for Chinese patients with STEMI and to determine whether the addition of biomarkers to the Korea Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry (KAMIR) score could enhance its predictive value for long-term outcomes.

PIWI-like protein 1 upregulation promotes gastric cancer invasion and metastasis.

Background: PIWI-like protein 1 (PIWIL1) is an important member of the Argonaute protein family and is closely related to the malignant behaviors of tumor cells. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between PIWIL1 and gastric cancer (GC).

Methods: We investigated PIWIL1 expression status in GC tissues as well as its association with clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of GC patients.

[Value of 18F-FDG PET/CT and PET in diagnosing and staging extranodal nasal type natural killer/T-cell lymphoma:A Meta-analysis].

The aim of this study is to comprehensively evaluate the values of 18F-FDG PET/CT and PET in diagnosing extranodal nasal type natural killer/T cell lymphoma (ENKTL). Studies about ENKTL diagnosed by 18F-FDG PET/CT and PET until June 2018 were searched in the databases such as PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, Web of Science, CNKI, CBM, VIP and Wanfang. Two reviewers independently screened literature and extracted data strictly according to included and excluded criterion, and assessed bias risk by 11 items using QUADAS-2 gulidline.

Development and application of a PCR-HRM molecular diagnostic method of SNPs linked with TNF inhibitor efficacy.

Background Clinical evidence indicates that genetic variations may interfere with the mechanism of drug action. Recently, it has been reported that the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of STAT4, PTPN2, PSORS1C1 and TRAF3IP2RA genes are associated with the clinical efficacy of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. Therefore, the detection of the SNPs linked with TNF inhibitor efficacy may provide an important basis for the treatment of RA.

Teratozoospermia with amorphous sperm head associate with abnormal chromatin condensation in a Chinese family.

Male infertility affects approximately 7% of the male population. In about 40% of affected patients, the etiology remains unknown. Here, we report the cases of two infertile brothers who have a uniquely prevalent sperm phenotype with completely amorphous sperm heads.

Cytokine-induced killer cell/dendritic cell-cytokine-induced killer cell immunotherapy for the postoperative treatment of gastric cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Immunotherapy is emerging as a new treatment strategy for gastric cancer(GC). However, the efficacy and safety of this technique remain unclear. This meta-analysis aimed to assess the effect of cytokine-induced killer cell (CIK)/dendritic cell-cytokine-induced killer cell (DC-CIK) treatment for GC after surgery.

Psychological assessment in 355 Chinese college students with androgenetic alopecia.

Although the association of the psychological problems and androgenetic alopecia (AGA) gained the increasing attention, the psychosocial state in college students with AGA remains unknown. We recruited a total number of 355 college students with AGA from 18 universities in Southern China for interview. The Symptom Checklist-90-R (SCL-90-R) survey was used to assess the psychological state of these students.
