Clinical Observations on the Combined Use of Hyperbaric Oxygenation and Conventional Medications in the Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Concurrent With Sudden Deafness.

The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of combining hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) with conventional pharmacological interventions in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus concurrent with sudden deafness. A cohort of 96 patients diagnosed with sudden deafness was enrolled and subsequently randomized into 2 groups: a treatment group (n = 50) and a control group (n = 46). The control group received standard conventional treatment aimed at enhancing microcirculation and nutritional support for nerves, while the treatment group underwent conventional symptomatic treatment coupled with HBOT.

Correlation analysis between left ventricular global longitudinal strain and major adverse cardiovascular event occurrence in patients with end-stage renal disease.

Objective: To explore the correlation between left ventricular global longitudinal strain (LVGLS) and major adverse cardiovascular event (MACE) occurrence in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD).

Methods: From January 2019 to December 2023, ESRD patients undergoing maintenance dialysis and LVGLS measurement admitted to the First People's Hospital of Lanzhou City were selected as subjects. They were followed up for 12 months to record the occurrence of MACEs, and divided into MACE group and non-MACE group according to MACE presence or absence.

Noncoding RNA-associated competing endogenous RNA networks in trastuzumab-induced cardiotoxicity.

Trastuzumab-induced cardiotoxicity (TIC) is a common and serious disease with abnormal cardiac function. Accumulating evidence has indicated certain non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), functioning as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), impacting the progression of cardiovascular diseases. Nonetheless, the specific involvement of ncRNA-mediated ceRNA regulatory mechanisms in TIC remains elusive.

The clinic data of 10 patients with acute TIAD who were admitted to the Department of Cardiac Surgery, Second Hospital of Lanzhou University or the First People's Hospital of Lanzhou, between January 2016 and August 2022, were retrospectively studied.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is characterized by its heterogeneity and complex metastatic mechanisms, presenting significant challenges in treatment and prognosis. This study aimed to unravel the intricate interplay between the gut microbiota and metabolic alterations associated with CRC metastasis. By employing high-throughput sequencing and advanced metabolomic techniques, we identified distinct patterns in the gut microbiome and fecal metabolites across different CRC metastatic sites.

Proteomic analysis of mitochondria associated membranes in renal ischemic reperfusion injury.

Background: The mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) communicate via contact sites known as mitochondria associated membranes (MAMs). Many important cellular functions such as bioenergetics, mitophagy, apoptosis, and calcium signaling are regulated by MAMs, which are thought to be closely related to ischemic reperfusion injury (IRI). However, there exists a gap in systematic proteomic research addressing the relationship between these cellular processes.

Purpose: Doxorubicin (Dox) is clinically limited due to its dose-dependent cardiotoxicity. Andrographolide (Andro) has been confirmed to exert cardiovascular protective activities. This study aimed to investigate protective effects of Andro in Dox-induced cardiotoxicity (DIC).

Four case reports of left anterior descending restenosis treated via the internal mammary artery: A literature review.

Objective: To analyse four cases of intervention via the internal mammary artery-anterior descending branch and provide and summarise the clinical treatment experience.

Methods: The clinical data of four patients with distal restenosis of a left anterior descending artery (LAD) anastomosis after left internal mammary artery (LIMA)-LAD bypass surgery, who were admitted to the Gansu Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases between March 2013 and April 2022, were retrospectively analysed and reviewed together with the relevant literature.

Results: Among the four patients, one was treated with intracoronary stenting via the internal mammary artery route, two were treated with intracoronary drug-coated balloon dilation (one of whom underwent fractional flow reserve [FFR] testing), and two underwent FFR testing (one of whom had a negative test result until the end of the procedure and continued to take medication during follow-up; the other patient had a positive result and further interventions).

Background: Thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) is an orbital disease closely related to thyroid disease with a long-lasting duration that can be blinding and disabling. Recently, structural and functional neuroimaging studies have been performed in TAO patients, but studies have reported inconsistent results. This quantitative meta-analysis was conducted to identify convergent patterns of abnormal brain function among different studies in TAO.

Frequency of metastases within the hypothalamic-pituitary area and the associated high-risk factors in patients with brain metastases.

Objective: Brain radiotherapy often results in impairment of hypothalamic-pituitary (HT-P) function, which in turn causes secretory dysfunction of related hormones. In this paper, the frequency of metastasis in the HT-P area and its high-risk factors in patients with brain metastasis were retrospectively analyzed, and thus provide experimental evidence for protecting HT-P area during whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT).

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on the data of patients with brain metastasis diagnosed by cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at the First Hospital of Lanzhou University from 2017 to 2020.

Decreased lipid levels in adult with congenital heart disease: a systematic review and Meta-analysis.

Background: Metabolic disorders were a health problem for many adults with congenital heart disease, however, the differences in metabolic syndrome-related metabolite levels in adults with congenital heart disease compared to the healthy population were unknown.

Methods: We collected 18 studies reporting metabolic syndrome-associated metabolite levels in patients with congenital heart disease. Data from different studies were combined under a random-effects model using Cohen's d values.

Background: It is recommended to use non-invasive positive pressure ventilation in elderly patients with heart failure combined with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS).

Objective: To study the therapeutic effect of non-invasive positive pressure ventilation on elderly patients with heart failure complicated with OSAS.

Methods: Using the random number table method, 119 elderly patients with heart failure complicated with OSAS who were admitted to our hospital from April 2020 to April 2021 were divided into the observation (60 cases) and control (59 cases) groups.

Single-cell RNA sequencing reveals the transcriptomic characteristics of peripheral blood mononuclear cells in hepatitis B vaccine non-responders.

The emergence of a vaccine against hepatitis B has proven to be an important milestone in the prevention of this disease; however, 5%-10% of vaccinated individuals do not generate an immune response to the vaccine, and its molecular mechanism has not been clarified. In this study, single-cell RNA sequencing was performed on peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from three volunteers with a high immune response (HR) and three with no immune response (NR) to the hepatitis B vaccine. We found that the antigen-presenting activity scores of various antigen-presenting cells, the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway activity scores of naive B cells, and the cell activity scores of three types of effector T cells were significantly decreased, whereas the cytotoxicity scores of CD3CD16KLRG1 natural killer T (NKT) cells were significantly increased in the NR group compared with those in the HR group.

A retrospective analysis of the clinical data on carotid artery treatment was conducted in the five cases of neck tumor surgeries treated at Department of Surgical Oncology, the First Peoples Hospital of Lanzhou from March 2010 to May 2020. Surgical methods, including carotid artery resection and ligation, tumor-involved artery resection and vascular reconstruction, and tumor peeling and carotid rupture repairing were used, respectively.

Associations between air pollution and outpatient visits for allergic rhinitis in Lanzhou, China.

There is emerging evidence indicating that short-term exposure to air pollution is associated with the development and occurrence of allergic rhinitis (AR), but limited studies have been conducted in China, and their results were inconsistent. So, quasi-Poisson time series regressions with distributed lag non-linear models (DLNM) were applied to evaluate the lag association between six air pollutants and daily outpatient visits for AR in Lanzhou, China, from January 1, 2014, to December 31, 2019. Stratified analyses were further performed by gender, age, and season.

Purpose: To demonstrate morphological alteration of the sulci and gyri on the convex surface in normal fetuses using innovative three-dimensional inversion and Crystalvue and Realisticvue (3D-ICRV) rendering technology.

Materials And Methods: 3D fetal brain volumes were collected from low-risk singleton pregnancies between 15+0 and 35+6 gestational weeks. Volumes were acquired from the transthalamic axial plane by transabdominal ultrasonography and were then post-processed with Crystalvue, Realisticvue rendering software and inversion mode.

Clinical observation on the efficacy of Tongdu Tuina manipulation in the treatment of primary enuresis in children.

The objective was to explore the efficacy of Tongdu Tuina manipulation in the treatment of primary single-symptom enuresis in children. A total of 102 children aged 5-16 with primary single-symptom enuresis were included in this study and randomly assigned to the Tuina group, the medication group and the control group, with 34 children in each group. The Tongdu Tuina group included manipulation of the Guanyuan, Qihai, Zhongji, Mingmen, kidney, Baihui, Sishencong and bladder acupoints, five times a week, the medication group was treated with 0.

Beneficial effects of protocatechuic acid on diabetic retinopathy in streptozocin-induced diabetic rats.

Aim: To determine the effects of protocatechuic acid (PCA) on streptozocin-induced diabetic retinopathy (DR) in rats.

Methods: Wistar rats were given a 50 mg/kg intraperitoneal injection of streptozocin to induce diabetes. Animals were assigned randomly one of four groups (8 rats per group): control, diabetic, diabetic plus PCA (25 mg/kg·d), and diabetic plus PCA (50 mg/kg·d).
