The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of combining hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) with conventional pharmacological interventions in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus concurrent with sudden deafness. A cohort of 96 patients diagnosed with sudden deafness was enrolled and subsequently randomized into 2 groups: a treatment group (n = 50) and a control group (n = 46). The control group received standard conventional treatment aimed at enhancing microcirculation and nutritional support for nerves, while the treatment group underwent conventional symptomatic treatment coupled with HBOT.

As demonstrated in previous research, hsa_circ_0052602 (circODC1) is dynamically expressed in HPV-positive cervical cancer (CC). CircODC1 expression was quantified using qRT-PCR, and its role in CC cell growth was assessed loss-of-function assays. Interactions between miR-607 and circODC1 or ODC1 were confirmed using bioinformatics and mechanistic assays.

Noncoding RNA-associated competing endogenous RNA networks in trastuzumab-induced cardiotoxicity.

Noncoding RNA Res

September 2024

Department of Pharmacy, The Second Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, Changsha, Hunan, 410011, China.

Trastuzumab-induced cardiotoxicity (TIC) is a common and serious disease with abnormal cardiac function. Accumulating evidence has indicated certain non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), functioning as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), impacting the progression of cardiovascular diseases. Nonetheless, the specific involvement of ncRNA-mediated ceRNA regulatory mechanisms in TIC remains elusive.

Article Synopsis
  • STEMI is a critical health emergency, and delays in obtaining informed consent significantly impact the speed of treatment, particularly in China.
  • A study involving over 257,000 patients found the average consent delay was 22.4 minutes, which made up 39.3% of the overall treatment time from arrival to balloon inflation.
  • Factors leading to longer delays included older age, being part of a minority ethnic group, marital status, specific types of chest pain, and modes of patient transfer, all contributing to slower overall treatment times.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is characterized by its heterogeneity and complex metastatic mechanisms, presenting significant challenges in treatment and prognosis. This study aimed to unravel the intricate interplay between the gut microbiota and metabolic alterations associated with CRC metastasis. By employing high-throughput sequencing and advanced metabolomic techniques, we identified distinct patterns in the gut microbiome and fecal metabolites across different CRC metastatic sites.

Proteomic analysis of mitochondria associated membranes in renal ischemic reperfusion injury.

J Transl Med

March 2024

Department of Urology, Institute of Urology, Gansu Urological Clinical Center, Lanzhou University Second Hospital, Lanzhou, 730030, Gansu, China.

Background: The mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) communicate via contact sites known as mitochondria associated membranes (MAMs). Many important cellular functions such as bioenergetics, mitophagy, apoptosis, and calcium signaling are regulated by MAMs, which are thought to be closely related to ischemic reperfusion injury (IRI). However, there exists a gap in systematic proteomic research addressing the relationship between these cellular processes.

Kidney aging accelerates the progression of various acute and chronic kidney diseases and can also induce pathological changes in other organs throughout the body. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been demonstrated to play a vital role in aging and age-related diseases. However, biological functions and the underlying molecular mechanism of circRNAs in kidney aging remain largely unclear.

Objective: To analyse four cases of intervention via the internal mammary artery-anterior descending branch and provide and summarise the clinical treatment experience.

Methods: The clinical data of four patients with distal restenosis of a left anterior descending artery (LAD) anastomosis after left internal mammary artery (LIMA)-LAD bypass surgery, who were admitted to the Gansu Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases between March 2013 and April 2022, were retrospectively analysed and reviewed together with the relevant literature.

Results: Among the four patients, one was treated with intracoronary stenting via the internal mammary artery route, two were treated with intracoronary drug-coated balloon dilation (one of whom underwent fractional flow reserve [FFR] testing), and two underwent FFR testing (one of whom had a negative test result until the end of the procedure and continued to take medication during follow-up; the other patient had a positive result and further interventions).

Background: Thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) is an orbital disease closely related to thyroid disease with a long-lasting duration that can be blinding and disabling. Recently, structural and functional neuroimaging studies have been performed in TAO patients, but studies have reported inconsistent results. This quantitative meta-analysis was conducted to identify convergent patterns of abnormal brain function among different studies in TAO.

Objective: Brain radiotherapy often results in impairment of hypothalamic-pituitary (HT-P) function, which in turn causes secretory dysfunction of related hormones. In this paper, the frequency of metastasis in the HT-P area and its high-risk factors in patients with brain metastasis were retrospectively analyzed, and thus provide experimental evidence for protecting HT-P area during whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT).

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on the data of patients with brain metastasis diagnosed by cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at the First Hospital of Lanzhou University from 2017 to 2020.

BMC Cardiovasc Disord

October 2023

Institute of Genetics, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Lanzhou University, Lanzhou, Gansu, China.

Background: Metabolic disorders were a health problem for many adults with congenital heart disease, however, the differences in metabolic syndrome-related metabolite levels in adults with congenital heart disease compared to the healthy population were unknown.

Methods: We collected 18 studies reporting metabolic syndrome-associated metabolite levels in patients with congenital heart disease. Data from different studies were combined under a random-effects model using Cohen's d values.

The emergence of a vaccine against hepatitis B has proven to be an important milestone in the prevention of this disease; however, 5%-10% of vaccinated individuals do not generate an immune response to the vaccine, and its molecular mechanism has not been clarified. In this study, single-cell RNA sequencing was performed on peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from three volunteers with a high immune response (HR) and three with no immune response (NR) to the hepatitis B vaccine. We found that the antigen-presenting activity scores of various antigen-presenting cells, the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway activity scores of naive B cells, and the cell activity scores of three types of effector T cells were significantly decreased, whereas the cytotoxicity scores of CD3CD16KLRG1 natural killer T (NKT) cells were significantly increased in the NR group compared with those in the HR group.

Associations between air pollution and outpatient visits for allergic rhinitis in Lanzhou, China.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

August 2023

Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, The First People's Hospital of Lanzhou, Lanzhou, 730000, People's Republic of China.

There is emerging evidence indicating that short-term exposure to air pollution is associated with the development and occurrence of allergic rhinitis (AR), but limited studies have been conducted in China, and their results were inconsistent. So, quasi-Poisson time series regressions with distributed lag non-linear models (DLNM) were applied to evaluate the lag association between six air pollutants and daily outpatient visits for AR in Lanzhou, China, from January 1, 2014, to December 31, 2019. Stratified analyses were further performed by gender, age, and season.
