The long-term survival rate of gastric cancer (GC) patients at advanced stages remains low worldwide. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) a newly studied type of non-coding RNA that play an important role in the pathogenesis and diagnosis of various diseases. In this research, we aimed to explore the functions of hsa_circRNA_101996 in GC cells and an animal model of GC.

Global manganese pollution to air and water is a significant threat to human health. The associations between manganese and liver stiffness and steatosis have not been reported in epidemiological studies. This study aimed to explore the clinical relevance of blood manganese with liver stiffness and steatosis in adults from the 2017-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (N = 4,192).

The heterogeneity of human hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPCs) under stress conditions such as ex vivo expansion is poorly understood. Here, we report that the frequencies of SCID-repopulating cells were greatly decreased in cord blood (CB) CD34+ HSCs and HPCs upon ex vivo culturing. Transcriptomic analysis and metabolic profiling demonstrated that mitochondrial oxidative stress of human CB HSCs and HPCs notably increased, along with loss of stemness.

Background: The Pediatric Assessment Triangle (PAT) is a rapid evaluation tool that establishes a child's clinical status and his or her category of illness in order to direct initial management priorities. However, only few studies have examined its accuracy in assessing triage of critically ill patients in the emergency pediatric department (EPD) in China.
Objective: To quantitatively validate the accuracy in assessing critically ill medical children and nurses' acceptance of PAT in the EPD.

The identification of asymptomatic, non-severe presymptomatic, and severe presymptomatic coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in patients may help optimize risk-stratified clinical management and improve prognosis. This single-center case series from Wuhan Huoshenshan Hospital, China, included 2,980 patients with COVID-19 who were hospitalized between February 4, 2020 and April 10, 2020. Patients were diagnosed as asymptomatic (n = 39), presymptomatic (n = 34), and symptomatic (n = 2,907) upon admission.

Naturally occurring polyphenol curcumin (4) or demethoxycurcumin (5) and their synthetic derivatives display promising anticancer activities. However, their further development is limited by low bioavailability and poor selectivity. Thus, a mitochondria-targeted compound 14 (DMC-TPP) was prepared in the present study by conjugating a triphenylphosphine moiety to the phenolic hydroxyl group of demethoxycurcumin to enhance its bioavailability and treatment efficacy.

Purpose: Exhaled nitric oxide has been used as a marker of airway inflammation. The NO concentration in the central and peripheral airway/alveolar can be measured by a slow and fast exhalation flow rate to evaluate inflammation in different divisions within the respiratory tract. We hypothesized that FeNO (exhaled NO at a flow rate of 200mL/s) could be used as an evaluation tool for peripheral airway/alveolar inflammation and corticosteroid therapy in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients.

Tumor metastasis is a destructive characteristic of malignant tumors and the fundamental reason why malignant tumors are difficult to cure. The concept of a pre‑metastatic niche (PMN) provides a novel way to elucidate the molecular mechanism of tumor metastasis. At present, the PMN has been considered as a critical determinant priming distal sites for metastasis.

Background: There have been many studies on the effectiveness and complications of airway stent, but few had focused on factors that affect survival after stent placement. This study intended to assess the factors associated with the survival in patients with malignant central airway obstruction (MCAO) after airway metallic stent placement.
Methods: The clinical data of adult MCAO patients who underwent stent placement form February 2003 to June 2017 in the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University in China were retrospectively analyzed.

The etiology of distal common bile duct (CBD) dilatation is complex. Linear-array endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) can not only visualize the distal and surrounding structures of the bile duct closely but also obtain pathological specimens by fine-needle aspiration, which provides an important basis for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of linear-array EUS in the etiology of distal CBD dilatation.

Ex vivo expansion of human cord blood (CB) hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) is one approach to overcome limited numbers of HSCs in single CB units. However, there is still no worldwide acceptable HSC ex vivo expansion system. A main reason is that we still have very limited knowldege regarding mechanisms underlying maintenance and expansion of CB HSCs.

Gastric cancer (GC) is a common digestive malignancy with a high-ranking morbidity and mortality. Therefore, it is urgent to identify novel indicators and develop new strategies for clinical diagnosis and treatment of GC. As a type of noncoding RNA, circular RNAs (circRNAs) have received increased attention in GC during recent years.

Plasma lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) has emerged as a novel biomarker for coronary atherosclerosis. However, the association between Lp-PLA2 and plaque vulnerability in atherosclerosis of cervicocerebral arteries remains poorly defined, especially for intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS). We aimed to investigate the association between Lp-PLA2 and plaque vulnerability in transient ischemic attack (TIA) patients with unilateral middle cerebral artery stenoses (MCAs).
