Acute or long-term exposure to N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) can induce abnormal liver function. It is well known that DMF is mainly metabolized in the liver and thereby produces reactive oxygen species (ROS). The base excision repair (BER) pathway is regarded as a very important pathway involved in repairing ROS-induced DNA damage.

The aim of the study was to study the expression of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) and P-glycoprotein (P-gp) and analyze its correlation with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. From January, 2012 to May, 2014, 72 cases of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) pathologic tissue samples were selected from the study group. Fifty-four lung benign lesions were selected to serve as the control group.

Objective: Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is a common form of intracranial hemorrhage with a substantial recurrence rate. Atorvastatin may reduce CSDH via its anti-inflammatory and pro-angiogenesis effects, but its effectiveness for preventing recurrent CSDH has never been explored. We hypothesized that atorvastatin is effective in reducing recurrence of CSDH after surgery and identified determining factors predictive of hematoma recurrence.

The dysregulation of microRNAs (miRNAs) has been demonstrated to contribute to drug resistance of cancer cells, and sustained nuclear factor (NF)κB activation is also pivotal in tumor resistance to chemotherapy. In the present study, an essential role for miRNA (miR)-20a was identified in the regulation of gastric cancer (GC) chemoresistance. The expression level of miR‑20a was assayed by reverse transcription‑quantitative polymerase chain reaction.

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to investigate whether the TGFA/TGFB3/MSX1 gene polymorphisms and haplotypes lead to individual differences between congenital non-syndromic hearing impairment (NSHI) patients and normal people in a Chinese population and to analyze the risk factors for NSHI. MATERIAL AND METHODS Between December 2010 and September 2014, 343 congenital NSHI patients were recruited as cases, and 272 healthy subjects were recruited as controls. Denaturing high-performance liquid chromatography (DHPLC) was used to identify genotypes, SHEsis software was used to conduct gene linkage disequilibrium and haplotype analyses, and regression analysis was performed to identify risk factors for congenital NSHI.

Type 1 diabetes mellitus is heterogeneous in many facets. The patients suffered from type 1 diabetes present several levels of islet function as well as variable number and type of islet-specific autoantibodies. This study was to investigate prevalence and heterogeneity of the islet autoantibodies and clinical phenotypes of type 1 diabetes mellitus; and also discussed the process of islet failure and its risk factors in Chinese type 1 diabetic patients.

Gliomas are the most common type of malignant brain tumor. Studies have identified that miR‑15b is negatively correlated with cripto-1 expression in glioma cells, and these molecules serve an important role in cancer development and progression. The current study was undertaken to further examine the association between these two molecules.

Objective: This study was performed to investigate the method of cranioplasty in patients with abnormal bone window pressure after decompressive craniectomy.
Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis for 25 cases after decompressive craniectomy in patients with abnormal flap pressure of clinical data.
Results: Flap pressure increased in 15 cases, including 6 cases of hydrocephalus, 5 cases of contralateral subdural effusion, 2 cases of subdural effusion bone window, 2 cases of bone window cystic encephalomalacia communicating with the ventricle; Flap pressure decreased in 10 cases, including 6 cases of hydrocephalus after ventriculoperitoneal shunt, and 4 cases of low intracranial pressure.

Serum and glucocorticoid-inducible kinase (SGK) 1can be triggered in several malignancies. Most research on SGK1has focused on its role in cancer cells, and we sought to investigate its potential upstream non-coding RNA nominated as Lnc-SGK1, and their expression and diagnostic value in T cells in human gastric cancer (GC). Excessive expression of Lnc-SGK1 and SGK1 were observed in T cell either within the tumor or peripheral T cells, and furthermore associated with Helicobacter pylori infection and high-salt diet (HSD).

Background: Giant cell tumor of bone (GCTB) is a relatively rare tumor of bone, characterized by numerous multinucleated cells, severe osteolysis, and local recurrence.
Purpose: To explore the role of S-phase kinase-interacting protein 2 (Skp2), cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor p27, and the transcription factor E2F-1 expression in the development of GCTB, and the relationship of expression of these proteins with tumor recurrence.
Methods: Forty-four patients with GCTB were selected and demographic and clinical data were collected.

Although known for their broad spectrum and curative efficacy on drug-resistant pathogens and as nephrotoxicity-free, impairments were observed on renal function during clinical treatment of the two most commonly used fourth-generation cephalosporins: Cefpirome and cefepime. The present study aimed to further explore the exact influences of them on renal function. , the cell viability of renal cells cultured in drug-combined medium was tested for six dilutions.

Asthma is a chronic airway inflammatory disorder and progresses mainly due to airway remodeling. Chrysin, a natural flavonoid, has been reported to possess multiple biologic activities, including anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation and anti-proliferation. The present study aimed to investigate whether chrysin could relieve allergic airway inflammation and remodeling in a murine model of chronic asthma and the mechanism involved.

Breast cancer is one of the most common female malignant tumors. According to data statistics, the incidence of breast cancer was 7% to 10% for a variety of malignant tumors, being only lower than that of uterine cancer. The methods of treating breast cancer are given priority over operative treatment and combined with chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Background: Acute post-traumatic cerebral hemispheric brain swelling (ACHS) is a serious disorder that occurs after traumatic brain injury, and it often requires immediate treatment. The aim of our clinical study was to assess the effects of stepwise intracranial decompression combined with external ventricular drainage (EVD) catheters on the prognosis of ACHS patients.
Methods: A retrospective study was performed on 172 cases of severe craniocerebral trauma patients with ACHS.

Temozolomide (TMZ) is widely used for treating glioblastoma (GBM), which can effectively inhibit the GBM growth for some months; however, it still cannot prevent the invariable recurrence of GBM. Improving the chemotherapeutic sensitization becomes an urgent agenda. In this study, we found low-dose demethoxycurcumin (DMC) could enhance the sensitivity of TMZ on glioma cells, and high-dose DMC has more significant effects on GBM cells compared with TMZ treatment alone both in vitro and in vivo.

Unlabelled: Chronic sleep disturbance-induced stress is known to increase basal pain sensitivity. However, most surgical patients frequently report short-term sleep disturbance/deprivation during the pre- and postoperation periods and have normal pain perception presurgery. Whether this short-term sleep disturbance affects postsurgical pain is elusive.

Drug resistance of cancer cells can be regulated by the dysregulated miRNAs, and sustained NFκB activation also plays an important role in tumor resistance to chemotherapy. Here, we sought to investigate whether there was a correlation between miR-20a and the NFκB pathway to clarify the effects that miR-20a exerted on gastric cancer (GC) chemoresistance. We found that miR-20a was significantly upregulated in GC plasma and tissue samples.
