Objective: We aimed to identify key susceptibility gene targets in multiple datasets generated from postmortem brains and blood of Parkinson's disease (PD) patients and healthy controls (HC).

Methods: We performed a multitiered analysis to integrate the gene expression data using multiple-gene chips from 244 human postmortem tissues. We identified hub node genes in the highly PD-related consensus module by constructing protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks.

Prognostic nomogram integrated baseline serum lipids for patients with non-esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

Ann Transl Med

October 2019

State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Collaborative Innovation Center for Cancer Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, Guangzhou 510060, China.

Background: Serum lipids have been documented as prognostic biomarkers in several types of cancer, however the prognostic value of serum lipids in non-esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (non-ESCC) is not clear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the prognostic roles of serum lipids in non-ESCC and to establish a novel effective nomogram for overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) in patients with non-ESCC.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the prognostic values of pretreatment serum lipids, including total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), apolipoproteinA-I (ApoAI), and apolipoprotein B (ApoB) and three lipid derivatives: atherogenic index [AI: (TC-HDL-C)/HDL-C], THR (TG/HDL-C) and LHR (LDL-C/HDL-C) in non-ESCC patients.

Prognostic Dynamic Nomogram Integrated with Inflammation-Based Factors for Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Patients with Chronic Hepatitis B Viral Infection.

Int J Biol Sci

September 2019

State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Collaborative Innovation Center for Cancer Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, Guangzhou, 510060, P. R. China.

Chronic inflammation plays an important role in tumor progression. The aim of this study was to develop an effective predictive dynamic nomogram integrated with inflammation-based factors to predict overall survival (OS) of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with chronic hepatitis B viral (HBV) infection. We retrospectively analyzed NSCLC patients with HBV infection from Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center between 2008 and 2010.

Objectives: Lymphovascular invasion (LVI) has been associated with a poor outcome in patients with breast cancer, but it is not included in international TNM staging system and molecular subtype criterion. The current studies have reported the relation between LVI and the tumor size (T), the status of axillary lymph node (ALN), age, histological grade in invasive breast cancer, but the results were debatable. So the meta-analysis was conducted to confirm the relation between LVI and the four clinicopathological factors.

Objectives: Oncogenic transcription factor forkhead box M1 (FoxM1)-related clinicopathologic characteristics and prognosis of patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) have not been identified. Our aim of studying FoxM1 expression level and survival rate of PDA is to determine whether FoxM1 is a valuable prognostic predictor for PDA patients.

Methods: Expressional levels of FoxM1 mRNA and protein in paired pancreatic cancer lesions and adjacent noncancerous tissues were examined by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting.

Objective: To observe the effects of morphine and pethidine on P-glycoprotein (P-gp) expression in mouse brain microvascular endothelial cells and investigate the role of nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-kappaB) signaling pathway in morphine-induced up-expression of P-gp.

Methods: The mouse brain microvascular endothelial cell line (b.END3) was subjected to pre-incubation with NF-kappaB inhibitor PDTC (5 micromol/L) for 1 h followed by stimulation with morphine (1 microg/ml) or pethidine (1 microg/ml) for 24 h.

Objective: To explore the possible relationship between the expressions of macrophage migration inhibitor factor (MIF), cyclin D1, cyclin-dependent kinase 4 (CDK4), phosphorylated-retinoblastoma susceptibility gene product Rb protein (phospho-Rb) and the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Methods: 93 HCC tissues and 5 normal liver tissues were used to investigate the expressions of MIF, cyclin D1, CDK4 and phospho-Rb by tissue microarray and immunohistochemistry methods.

Results: The expression rates of MIF, cyclin D1, CDK4 and phospho-Rb in the HCC tissues were 71%, 41%, 82% and 14% respectively, and in the normal liver tissues, they were 0%, 0%, 80% and 20% respectively.
