Article Synopsis
  • Varicocele, caused by dilated testicular veins, is a surgically correctable factor linked to male infertility, especially in men with severe oligoasthenoteratozoospermia (OAT).
  • A study involving 360 men demonstrated that varicocelectomy significantly improved sperm concentration, motility, morphology, and total motile sperm count (TMSC) at 6, 12, and 18 months post-surgery.
  • The procedure also led to a reduction in sperm DNA fragmentation, indicating better overall sperm quality and suggesting the potential for improved fertility outcomes.

Cellulose based polyurethane with amino acid functionality: Design, synthesis, computational study and application in wastewater purification.

Institut Polytechnique UniLaSalle, Université d'Artois, ULR 7519, 19 rue Pierre Waguet, BP 30313, 60026 Beauvais, France. Electronic address:

Contamination in water is due to various environmental pollutants from natural and anthropogen activities. To remove toxic metals from contaminated water, we developed a novel adsorbent in foam form based on an olive industry waste material. The foam synthesis involved oxidation of cellulose extracted from the waste to dialdehyde, functionalization of the cellulose dialdehyde with an amino acid group, reacting the functionalized cellulose with hexamethylene diisocyanate and p-phenylene diisocyanate to produce the target polyurethanes Cell-F-HMDIC and Cell-F-PDIC, respectively.

Olive Industry Solid Waste-Based Biosorbent: Synthesis and Application in Wastewater Purification.

Polymers (Basel)

February 2023

Institut Polytechnique UniLaSalle, Université d'Artois, ULR 7519, 19 Rue Pierre Waguet, BP 30313, 60026 Beauvais, France.

In this work, we present a process for converting olive industry solid waste (OISW) into a value-added material with ionic receptors for use in the removal of toxic metal ions from wastewater. This 3D polymer is a promising adsorbent for large-scale application, since it is a low-cost material made from agricultural waste and showed exceptional performance. The synthesis of the network polymer involved the carboxymethylation of OISW and curing of the carboxymethylated OISW at an elevated temperature to promote the formation of ester linkages between OISW's components.

Given the ischemic risk due to the hypercoagulability associated with acute coronary syndromes, the administration of antiplatelet and antithrombotic agents is necessary to prevent intracoronary and postprocedural thrombosis during percutaneous coronary interventions. However, the risk of bleeding, hemorrhagic stroke included, is real, although it has a lower prevalence, and it complicates the management of the coronary event if it happens. We report the case of a 66 years old patient with no prior pathological history who was initially admitted for acute coronary syndromes, complicated by paroxysmal atrial fibrillation that was successfully thrombolysed.

Article Synopsis
  • - A 23-year-old patient experienced an acute myocardial infarction just one day after receiving the second dose of the COVID-19 BIBP vaccine, leading to severe heart dysfunction.
  • - Despite normal coronary arteries, cardiac MRI revealed signs of a recent heart attack, particularly in the left anterior descending artery area, with no evidence of myocarditis.
  • - The case suggests a potential link between the vaccine and the heart event, but it's important to note that severe complications from COVID-19 vaccines are very rare, and health experts still strongly recommend vaccination due to its overall benefits.

Chitosan-Hydroxyapatite Bio-Based Composite in Film Form: Synthesis and Application in Wastewater.

Polymers (Basel)

October 2022

Institut Polytechnique UniLaSalle Transformations & Agro-Resources Research Unit (ULR7519), 19 Rue Pierre Waguet, BP 30313, 60026 Beauvais, France.

Water purification from toxic metals was the main objective of this work. A composite in film form was prepared from the biomaterials hydroxyapatite, chitosan and glycerol using the dissolution/recrystallization method. A nanoparticle-based film with a homogenous and smooth surface was produced.

Modeling and numerical simulation of the chip formation process when machining Nomex.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

January 2022

Laboratory of Mechanics and Energy, Faculty of Sciences, First Mohammed University, 60000, Oujda, Morocco.

The machining of Nomex honeycomb structures represents a technical and scientific barrier for aeronautical applications. The difficulties encountered during the machining of this type of material are linked to the low density of Nomex paper, and to the low thickness of the walls forming the honeycomb cells of this type of structure. In this work, a finite element calculation code "ABAQUS`- EXPLICIT" was used to optimize and analyze the machining by milling of Nomex honeycomb structures.

Background: The aim of this work is to present the results of a comparative study between the ALT assay on Integra 400 plus Roche Diagnostic versus Architect ci8200 of Abbott Diagnostic.

Methods: A total of 200 patients hospitalized in the various departments of the university hospital Mohammed VI of Oujda were prospectively tested on two systems: Abbott Architect ci8200 and Roche Integra 400 plus. Both analyzers use the spectrophotometric technique by coupling the transamination reaction to the oxidation-reduction reaction at NAD.
