Liver Cancer

December 2022

Department of Hepatic Surgery VI, Eastern Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital, Second Military Medical University, Shanghai, China.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common malignancies in China. Most HCC patients are first diagnosed at an advanced stage, and systemic treatments are the mainstay of treatment.

Portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) is very common and it plays a major role in the prognosis and clinical staging of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We have published the first version of the guideline in 2016 and revised in 2018. Over the past several years, many new evidences for the treatment of PVTT become available, especially for the advent of new targeted drugs and immune checkpoint inhibitors which have further improved the prognosis of PVTT.

January 2021

Key Laboratory for Biobased Materials and Energy of Ministry of Education, College of Materials and Energy, South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou 510642, China. Electronic address:

Bone related-bacterial diseases including wound infections and osteomyelitis (OM) remain a serious problem accompanied with amputation in most severe cases. In this work, we report an exceptional effective antibacterial alginate aerogel, which consists of tigecycline (TGC) and octahedral Cu crystal as an organo-inorganic synergy platform for antibacterial and local infection therapy applications. The alginate aerogel could greatly prolong the release of copper ions and maintain effective antibacterial concentration over 18 days.

Article Synopsis
  • A CHO cell line was created to produce recombinant rat NT-3, and the integration of rNT-3 cDNA was confirmed using Southern blot analysis.
  • The presence of the NT-3 protein was verified through Dot ELISA and Western blot, where a specific band around 14 kDa was observed.
  • The conditioned medium from these cells promoted the growth of nerve fibers in chick embryo dorsal root ganglia, with a half-maximal effective concentration (EC50) of 16.7 ng/mL, and the MoAb 3W3 could neutralize this activity.

Four human vascular endothelial growth factor receptor Flt-1 cDNA fragments containing extracellular domain loops 2, 1-2, 2-3 and 1-3 respectively were amplified from human placental cDNA library by PCR and used for screening ligand binding domains by yeast two-hybrid system. The result showed that, not only loop 1-3, but also the smaller fragment loop 2-3 could bind to hVEGF(165). Recombinant expression plasmids pPIC9K/Flt-1(1-3) and pPIC9K/Flt-1(2-3) were constructed and transformed to Pichia.

The external wrapping of intracranial aneurysm is the definitive treatment of choice for surgical clipping or endovascular occlusion, yet there may exist considerable difficulties and risks because so far neither ideal wrapping techniques nor ideal wrapping materials have been obtained. An encapsulated aneurysm clip with biomembrane graft across the vessels is introduced in this article. By clipping the neck and wrapping the sack of aneurysm simultaneously, this clip successfully solves the problems of unreasonable encapsulated materials and techniques; it has been proved to be an effective method for treating intracranial refractory aneurysms.

Objective: To identify the expression of protein which is characteristic of stem cell, induce the adipogenic differentiation in vitro by ASCs harvested from GFP transgenic mice, and to assess the possibility of constructing adipose tissue via the attachment of ASCs to type I collagen scaffold.

Methods: Inguinal fat pads from GFP transgenic mice were used for the isolation of ASCs. Expression of CD29, CD34, CD45, CD133 and HLA-DR were detected by flow cytometry.

Objective: To observe the effects of flavone from leaves of Diospyros kaki on expression of apoptosis signal-regulating kinase 1 (ASK1) and rat vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) proliferation by tumor necrosis factor alpha in vitro.

Methods: Rat aortic VSMCs were cultured in vitro and treated with tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) and flavone from leaves of Diospyros kaki, respectively, and were observed in comparison with the control group. The ratio of cell proliferation was determined by non-radioactive MTS/PES as-say.

Zhongguo Wei Zhong Bing Ji Jiu Yi Xue

May 2007

Department of Respiratory Diseases, Clinical School of First Military Medical University (Guangzhou South Medical University), Nanjing General Hospital of Nanjing Military Command, Nanjing 210002, Jiangsu, China.

Objective: To investigate the effects of nuclear factor-KappaB (NF-KappaB) activation in multiple organs of hemorrhage-induced acute lung injury (ALI) by the specific granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF)-neutralizing antibody (22E9) and dexamethasone (DEX) in mice.

Methods: Twenty male C57BL/6 mice were used to reproduce a model of hemorrhagic shock by cardiac puncture. Before cardiac puncture, mice in different groups were transnasally administered with phosphate buffered solution (PBS, PCG group), PBS plus 1 microg 22E9 (HS1 group), PBS plus 10 microg 22E9 (HS10 group) and PBS plus 20 microg DEX (DEX group), respectively.

Objective: To explore the effects of Yizhi Capsule (YZC) on learning and memory disorder and beta-amyloid peptide induced neurotoxicity in rats.

Methods: Various doses of YZC were administered to Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats for 8 consecutive days, twice a day. On the 8th day of the experiment, scopolamine hydrobromide was intraperitoneally injected to every rat and Morris water maze test and shuttle dark avoidance test were carried out respectively to explore the changes of learning and memory capacities in the rats.

To clarify the characteristics of TCR alphabeta T cells in the peripheral blood of patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB), we investigated the patterns of Complementarity Determining Region3 (CDR3) length distribution for all 24 TCR BV gene families and 32 TCR AV gene family in the peripheral blood lymphocytes of two patients with CHB and two healthy controls by immunoscope spectratyping technique. We found that the profiles of CDR3 length distribution for all TCR AV and TCR BV family showed Gaussian distribution (the polyclonal TCR alphabeta T cells) in healthy controls, however, the restricted usage of TCR BV and TCR AV family (the oligoclonal TCR alphabeta T cells) has been monitored in two CHB patients, furthermore, the oligoclonal TCR alphabeta T cells showed the different CDR3 sequences and length, it might be correlated to the different epitope of hepatitis B virus (HBV) or the different HLA type of the patients. Detailed analysis of the CDR3 length of TCR alphabeta T cells might be interesting to light on the further study of the individualized immunotherapy of CHB and the further research of the new T lymphocyte epitope vaccine of HBV.

The genotypes of alcohol dehydrogenase-1B (ADH1B) and aldehyde dehydrogenase-2 (ALDH2) are related to alcohol dependence and some human disorders. Rapid, accurate genotyping methodologies for specific polymorphisms of these two genes are needed for molecular screening and testing of alcohol-related problems in populations. A polymerase chain reaction (PCR) composed of two separate amplicons was designed to generate sequences containing the polymorphic site of interest in the ADH1B and ALDH2 genes.

[Gene expression profile in K562 cells treated by interferon alpha].

Zhongguo Shi Yan Xue Ye Xue Za Zhi

October 2005

Department of Hematology, Nan Fang Hospital, The First Military Medical University, Guangzhou, China.

To study the gene expression profile in K562 cells treated by IFN-alpha, so as to provide some information about the potential mechanism of IFN-alpha curing CML, the changes of gene expression were examined with the DNA array in K562 cells before and after treatment with IFN-alpha. The results showed that no gene expression difference more than 2.5 times in K562 cells was found on the first day after treatment with IFN-alpha (200 U/ml), then the genes significant expression difference increased step by step, and reached the peak on the forth day.
