To review the most relevant treatment options for indirect carotid-cavernous fistulas (iCCF), cohorts of 20 patients or more published after 2000 were analyzed. Clinical and radiological outcomes, as well as embolization techniques and material, had to be clarified in the study to be considered. Statistical analysis was based on calculating the relative percentage of therapeutic methods or embolic material, followed by calculating parametric and nonparametric correlations.

Extended pelvic resection for gynecological malignancies: A review of out-of-the-box surgery.

Gynecol Oncol

May 2022

Department of Surgical Oncology, Institut Universitaire du Cancer de Toulouse - Oncopole, Institut Claudius Regaud, Toulouse, France; INSERM CRCT Team 19, Oncogenesis of Sarcomas, Toulouse, France. Electronic address:

In the specific case of pelvic sidewall involvement, a laterally extended pelvic resection may be required. As previously defined by Höckel, this resection requires the en bloc removal of structures including the pelvic sidewall muscles, bones, nerves, and/or major vessels.

The levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) is widely used and recommended as a reliable contraceptive. It also acts by opposing the effects of estrogen on the endometrium, thereby preventing development of endometrial hyperplasia and its possible malignant transformation. This case describes a 52-year-old multiparous amenorrhoeic patient who was seen in the gynecology outpatient department for a routine control 46 months after the insertion LNG-IUS as contraception.

Introduction: Prognostic factors of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) currently recognized include changes in vital capacity and radiologic findings. However, most of the prognostic studies in IPF are based on clinical studies with preselected IPF populations. Therefore, we decided to analyze the factors influencing IPF prognosis based on the real-practice data from our IPF registry.

To evaluate the preclinical efficacy and safety of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSC) rapidly expanded in growth medium for clinical use with human serum and recombinant growth factors, we conducted a controlled, randomized trial of plasma clots with hMSC vs. plasma clots only in critical segmental femoral defects in rnu/rnu immunodeficient rats. X-ray, microCT and histomorphometrical evaluation were performed at 8 and 16 weeks.

Uterine artery embolization (UAE) is a minimally invasive procedure with large symptomatic potential in treatment of women with uterine leiomyomas. Due to specificities of this method and possible complications the appropriate indication is crucial. Patient' symptoms, age, plans for pregnancy, and surgical and reproductive history play a major role in decision-making regarding appropriate subjects for UAE.

Background: Eprotirome is a liver-selective thyroid hormone receptor agonist that has been shown to lower plasma LDL cholesterol concentrations in previous phase 1 and 2 studies of patients with dyslipidaemia. We aimed to assess the long-term safety and efficacy of 50 μg and 100 μg eprotirome in patients with familial hypercholesterolaemia.

Methods: For this randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, phase 3 clinical trial, we enrolled patients between Oct 3, 2011, and Feb 14, 2012, at 53 sites in 11 countries in Europe, Africa, and south Asia.

The Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) has been linked to Kaposi sarcoma, body cavity-based lymphoma, and Castleman disease. vIRF-3 is a KSHV latent gene that is critical for proliferation of KSHV-positive lymphoid cells. Furthermore, vIRF-3 contributes to KSHV-associated pathogenesis by stimulating c-Myc transcription activity.

Statement Of Problem: Setting of irreversible hydrocolloid impression materials is based on the ionic reaction between carboxylic groups and calcium ions and may, therefore, be affected by ionic species present in the mixing water. The impact of this phenomenon on the clinical performance of these materials has not been well documented.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the setting behavior of irreversible hydrocolloid impression materials when mixed with tap and distilled water, and to determine the impact of typical cations present in tap water and their concentrations on the setting process.
