A novel therapeutic strategy using extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in patients with anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies-associated vasculitis: a case report and literature review.

Diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH) secondary to anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) often results in severe respiratory failure which requires emergent management. In patients who are resistant to traditional mechanical respiratory support, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) can be used to maintain gas exchange, thereby providing time for the administration of immunosuppressive therapy to control the inflammation. Herein, we report the application of ECMO to support an adult patient with AAV complicated by severe respiratory failure due to DAH.

[Clinicopathological features of malignant mixed mesodermal tumor: analysis of 50 cases].

To investigate the clinicpathological, immunohistochemical and molecular genetic features of malignant mixed mesodermal tumor (MMMT) in the female reproductive system. To analyze its histopathological characteristics, we performed a retrospective review of the MMMT cases diagnosed at PLA General Hospital, Beijing, China during 2005-2019 using its surgical and pathological databases. Protective effects of ischemic postconditioning on skeletal muscle following crush syndrome in the rat.

Background: As the aging population continues to increase worldwide, the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases and muscular dystrophy/sarcopenia in the elderly has escalated significantly. Cardiovascular diseases elevate the risk of muscular atrophy/sarcopenia, which results in increased disability and mortality of patients. This study analyzed the current available literature related to the relationship between cardiovascular diseases and muscular atrophy/sarcopenia in the aging population.

Background: Tinnitus is an auditory phantom sensation in the absence of an acoustic stimulus, which affects nearly 15% of the population. Excessive noise exposure is one of the main causes of tinnitus. To now, the knowledge of the genetic determinants of susceptibility to tinnitus remains limited.

The use of free myocutaneous flap and implant reinsertion for staged cranial reconstruction in patients with titanium mesh exposure and large skull defects with soft tissue infection after cranioplasty: Report of 19 cases.

Background: Management of cranial defects following failed cranioplasty due to titanium mesh exposure and infection is challenging. The purpose of this report is to describe a modified technique using a free myocutaneous flap transfer for primary soft tissue reconstruction, and titanium mesh reinsertion for cranioplasty revision.

Methods: Nineteen patients with titanium mesh exposure and infection following cranioplasty were treated from January 2012 to January 2019.

This work aims to analyze the role of ELF3 on the suppression of miR-485-5p transcription in OC. Expression of ELF3 in OC and its correlation with overall survival were predicted on a bioinformation system GEPIA.

Purpose: To report a new feature of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and its diagnostic performance for the prediction of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC).

Methods: This retrospective study was conducted from October 2018 to March 2019, including 276 patients with 308 thyroid nodules who underwent CEUS examinations prior to surgery (90 patients, 122 nodules) or fine needle aspiration (186 patients, 186 nodules). Quantitative analysis of CEUS features was performed using time-intensity curves.

Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of lung computed tomography (CT) data and laboratory values of COVID-19 patients with hypertension who were admitted to Huoshenshan Hospital, Wuhan, Hubei Province, between February 18 and March 31, 2020.

Importance of brain alterations in spinal cord injury.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) destroys the sensorimotor pathway and blocks the information flow between the peripheral nerve and the brain, resulting in autonomic function loss. Numerous studies have explored the effects of obstructed information flow on brain structure and function and proved the extensive plasticity of the brain after SCI. Great progress has also been achieved in therapeutic strategies for SCI to restore the "re-innervation" of the cerebral cortex to the limbs to some extent.

Suppression of mitochondrial ROS by prohibitin drives glioblastoma progression and therapeutic resistance.

Low levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) are crucial for maintaining cancer stem cells (CSCs) and their ability to resist therapy, but the ROS regulatory mechanisms in CSCs remains to be explored. Here, we discover that prohibitin (PHB) specifically regulates mitochondrial ROS production in glioma stem-like cells (GSCs) and facilitates GSC radiotherapeutic resistance. We find that PHB is upregulated in GSCs and is associated with malignant gliomas progression and poor prognosis.

The aim of this study was to explore the association of SI with fertilization rate, embryo development and clinical outcomes in IVF, further, to find an optimal preincubation time for prepared sperm before insemination in IVF.
