To investigate the application of H to alleviate cardiac ischaemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury in a PGC-1α-dependent manner. A rat in vitro myocardial I/R injury model was used, Western blot was used to detect the expression levels of apoptosis markers (Bax, cleaved caspase-3, Bcl), inflammatory factors (IL-1β, TNF-α), mitochondrial fission (DRP1, MFF) and mitochondrial fusion (MFN1, MFN2, OPA1). HE staining was used to observe the effect of H on the myocardial tissue structure injured by I/R.

Gastric adenocarcinoma (STAD) is the most prevalent malignancy of the human digestive system and the fourth leading cause of cancer-related death. Calcium pools, especially Ca2+ entry (SOCE) for storage operations, play a crucial role in maintaining intracellular and extracellular calcium balance, influencing cell activity, and facilitating tumor progression. Nevertheless, the prognostic and immunological value of SOCE in STAD has not been systematically studied.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how high doses of dexamethasone, a glucocorticoid, affect microglial polarization and neuroinflammation following traumatic brain injury (TBI).
  • Using various experimental methods, including mouse models and in vitro cell cultures, researchers found that dexamethasone significantly downregulates arginase 1, a marker for anti-inflammatory M2 microglia, suggesting it inhibits both M1 and M2 microglial responses.
  • The findings indicate that dexamethasone's effects on microglial polarization are mediated through glucocorticoid receptors, which may lead to increased apoptosis (cell death) and potential negative outcomes in TBI recovery.

Chronic constipation and gut microbiota: current research insights and therapeutic implications.

Postgrad Med J

November 2024

Department of Gastroenterology, The First Hospital of Tsinghua University, No. 6 Jiuxianqiao, 1st Street, Chaoyang District, Beijing 100016, China.

Chronic constipation is a prevalent clinical condition. Its etiology and pathogenesis have not yet been fully understood. In recent years, mounting evidence suggests a close association between chronic constipation and intestinal dysbiosis, including alterations in the colony structure and metabolites, as well as the modulation of bowel movements via the brain-gut-microbiota axis.

Objective: Pipeline embolization device (PED) placement for the treatment of intracranial aneurysms is safe and effective under general anesthesia (GA). However, GA is associated with certain risks, longer procedural time, and higher hospital cost. The authors aimed to compare clinical outcomes and hospital cost between GA and local anesthesia (LA) procedures in patients who underwent PED placement for intracranial aneurysm treatment.

Currently, the incidence of esophageal cancer continues to rise around the world. Because of its good early prognosis, it is of great significance to establish an effective model for predicting the survival of EC patients. The purpose of this study was to predict survival after diagnosis in Esophageal Cancer (EC) patients by constructing a valid clinical nomogram.

Injuries to the spinal cord nervous system often result in permanent loss of sensory, motor, and autonomic functions. Accurately identifying the cellular state of spinal cord nerves is extremely important and could facilitate the development of new therapeutic and rehabilitative strategies. Existing experimental techniques for identifying the development of spinal cord nerves are both labor-intensive and costly.

May 2024

Department of Clinical Laboratory, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Peking Union Medical College, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, No.1 Shuaifuyuan Wangfujing, Dongcheng, Beijing, 100730, P.R. China.

Background: Infections caused by linezolid-resistant enterococci (LRE) are clinically difficult to treat and threaten patient health. However, there is a lack of studies on long time-span LRE strains in China. For this reason, our study comprehensively revealed the resistance mechanisms of LRE strains collected in a Chinese tertiary care hospital from 2011 to 2022.

Prostate cancer (PCa) is one of the most common malignant diseases of urinary system and has poor prognosis after progression to castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC), and increased cytosine methylation heterogeneity is associated with the more aggressive phenotype of PCa cell line. Activation-induced cytidine deaminase (AID) is a multifunctional enzyme and contributes to antibody diversification. However, the dysregulation of AID participates in the progression of multiple diseases and related with certain oncogenes through demethylation.

Inhibition of excessive autophagy alleviates renal injury and inflammation in a rat model of immunoglobulin A nephropathy.

Eur J Pharmacol

December 2023

Department of Nephrology, Xiyuan Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Beijing, 100091, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) is a kidney disease linked to immune responses and inflammation, making its prognosis and treatment difficult to establish due to its diverse clinical presentations.
  • The study focused on how autophagy, a cellular process that helps with maintenance and repair, changes over time in a rat model of IgAN, revealing persistent activation of autophagy and inflammation.
  • By using an autophagy enhancer and inhibitor, the results indicated that blocking autophagy with 3-methyladenine reduced kidney damage and inflammation, suggesting that targeting autophagy could be a potential treatment for IgAN.
