Langenbecks Arch Surg

December 2024

Department of Interventional Treatment, First Hospital of Qinhuangdao, No.258 Wenhua Road, Qinhuangdao, Hebei, 066099, China.

Background: Malignant biliary obstruction is usually attributed to the enlargement of tumors within or adjacent to the biliary tract, leading to blockage or compression of the bile ducts. Common causes include pancreatic head cancer, bile duct cancer, gallbladder cancer, liver cancer, and metastatic diseases. Most cases have an insidious onset, lack effective early screening methods, and 70% of patients cannot undergo surgical resection, with a 5-year survival rate of about 30%.

Previous studies have reported an association between telomere length and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). This study aimed to explore the involvement of alternative lengthening of telomere-related genes (ALTRGs) in the pathology of NAFLD, construct a risk signature, and evaluate both treatment and prognosis. Three NAFLD datasets (GSE48452, GSE89632, and GSE63067) were collected from the GEO database and merged into combined GEO datasets.

Although serum uric acid (SUA) is a risk factor for cardiometabolic outcome, but it remains unclear which patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) benefit the most from SUA lowering therapy (ULT). The association of SUA level, systemic inflammation and cardiometabolic risk is still unclear. The current study is aimed to examine whether SUA-associated cardiometabolic risk is modulated by systemic inflammation in CAD patients.

  • The study investigates the role of TRIM71 as a potential therapeutic target for laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC), a common head and neck tumor, which has been on the rise.
  • TRIM71 was found to be significantly downregulated in LSCC tissues, and its overexpression inhibited cell growth and tumor development in xenograft models.
  • The research suggests that TRIM71 may exert its anti-tumor effects by regulating the stability of eIF5A2 protein, indicating that targeting TRIM71 could be a promising strategy for LSCC treatment.

Background: All-inside cruciate ligament reconstruction is an emerging technique for treating anterior cruciate ligament and posterior cruciate ligament injuries. The all-inside technique uses a 4-stranded graft made of a single tendon that wraps around itself. Four strands of the graft must be immobilized to form a closed loop, and the free ends of the graft must be attached using a suture technique.

Endocr J

November 2024

Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, The First Hospital of Qinhuangdao, Qinhuangdao 066000, Hebei, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the overlooked connection between asthma and non-alcoholic hepatic steatosis using the fatty liver index (FLI) from NHANES data.
  • The analysis revealed a nonlinear relationship between FLI values and asthma risk, with higher FLI indicating an increased likelihood of asthma, particularly at optimal thresholds of 68 for males and 63 for females.
  • The findings suggest that lower FLI levels can help minimize asthma risk, highlighting the importance of maintaining healthy liver function.
