Although combining 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and Interferon-beta (IFNb) improves response rates in Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC), the outcomes remain suboptimal. This study investigates the feasibility of using highly transfected Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) to deliver a chemotherapeutic (5-FU) and an immunomodulator (IFNb) for localized HCC treatment. Considering the crucial role of cold-chain transportation in off-the-shelf allogeneic therapy, the study also assesses the quality and efficacy of frozen-thawed engineered MSCs, simulating a multisite study process.

Background: Propofol is one of the important drug causes of respiratory depression in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) anesthesia. This study aims to clarify whether Ciprofol in ERCP anesthesia reduces the respiratory depression rate.
Methods: In this randomized controlled trial performed at the Surgical Endoscopy Center, the First Hospital of Lanzhou University between Jun 01, 2022 and Feb 20, 2024, patients undergoing ERCP anesthesia were randomly assigned into ciprofol (study group) or propofol (control group).

Background And Objectives: Androgenetic alopecia is one of the common types of hair loss and has become a medical and social problem due to its increasingly young onset. Existing therapies, although effective, have serious side effects and therefore better treatments need to be sought. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia and to investigate the mechanism of exosome regulation of hair growth.

Lung cancer is a major cause of cancer-related mortality, and radiotherapy is often limited by tumor resistance and side effects. This study explores whether epoxymicheliolide (ECL), a compound from feverfew, can enhance radiotherapy efficacy in lung cancer. We tested ECL on A549 and PC-9 lung cancer cell lines to evaluate its effect on x-ray irradiation.

Objective: To investigate the impact of overwork on vascular endothelial barrier function in mice.
Methods: Thirty KM mice were randomized equally into control, overwork for 2 weeks (W2) group and 4 weeks (W4) group. In the latter two groups, the mice were subjected to continuous standing in water for 8 h followed by restraint for 3 h to simulate overwork on a daily basis for 2 and 4 weeks.

This study aims to discover the association between serum osteocalcin, the Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI), and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk, and their impact on arterial stiffness in T2DM patients. We included 639 T2DM patients aged 30 and older who received the assessment of ASCVD risk using the China-PAR equation, Osteocalcin and arterial stiffness in this cross-sectional study. We found that osteocalcin and CVAI as independent risk factors for both medium-high-risk ASCVD (osteocalcin: men, OR,0.

We aimed to explore the relationship between SUA and all-cause mortality (ACM) and cardiovascular mortality (CVM) in adult patients with CVD. This cohort study included 3977 patients with CVD from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2005-2018).

Gastric signet ring cell carcinoma (GSRC) is a rare malignancy without a commonly acknowledged prognostic assessment and treatment system. This study aimed to determine the optimal cut-off value of tumor size (TS), and construct a prognostic nomogram in combination with other independent prognostic factors (PFs) to predict 3 year and 5 year overall survival (OS) in GSRC patients. From the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database, this study collected 4744 patients diagnosed with GSRC.

Introduction: The clinical presentation, outcomes, and anticoagulation strategies in patients with lung cancer-associated isolated distal deep vein thrombosis (LC-iDDVT) are not well-defined.
Materials And Methods: The study included 593 patients with LC-iDDVT and 260 patients with lung cancer-associated proximal DVT (LC-Proximal DVT). LC-iDDVT was further classified into axial venous thrombosis (AVT; 112 patients) and muscular venous thrombosis (MVT; 481 patients).

Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (MI/R) injury, a major contributor to poor prognosis in patients with acute myocardial infarction, currently lacks effective therapeutic strategies in clinical practice. The long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) Oip5-as1 can regulate various cellular processes, such as cell proliferation, differentiation, and survival. Oip5-as1 may have potential as a therapeutic target for MI/R injury as its upregulated expression has been associated with reduced infarct size and improved cardiac function in animal models, although how to effectively and safely overexpress Oip5-as1 remains unclear.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a commonly encountered critical condition in clinical settings, often resulting from sepsis, infections or ischemia. Astragaloside IV (AS-IV) is the primary active component of Astragalus. The functions of Astragalus are mainly related to AS-IV, showing remarkable therapeutic effects in anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, immune-enhancing, and anti-tumor aspects.

Background: Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is a significant global health issue with increasing incidence owing to aging populations and rising cardiovascular risk factors. In addition to physical impairments, AIS frequently leads to neuropsychiatric complications, such as cognitive impairment, anxiety, and depressive symptoms, which adversely affect patients' quality of life and rehabilitation. Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) has emerged as a potential biomarker for various conditions, including AIS.

Objectives: Increasing evidence suggests that activated innate/adaptive immunity induces an inflammatory response, thereby participating in epileptogenesis. However, the biological explanation of inflammation/immunity as a potential cause for epilepsy remains largely unknown. This research aimed to determine the causal effects of inflammation/immune-related genes in epilepsy based on multi-omics mendelian randomization (MR).

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a progressive cardiopulmonary disease characterized by elevated pulmonary artery pressure and vascular remodeling, resulting in poor prognosis and increased mortality rates. Chemokine-like factor 1 (CKLF1) plays a significant role in inducing inflammation and cell proliferation, both of which are critical processes in the pathogenesis of various diseases. Dihydromyricetin (DMY) has garnered attention for its potent anti-inflammatory properties.

Background: The interaction and combined effect of the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, an alternative parameter of insulin resistance, along with hypertension (HT), on the risk of peripheral arterial disease (PAD), a specific type of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, in individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D) seems straightforward. However, specific research on this topic remains scarce.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 2027 adult participants with T2D were devided into four groups based on the mean values of TyG index and various blood pressure parameters along with its category.

Background: Surgical site infection (SSI) is a common and serious complication following gastric cancer surgery, often linked to patient age, surgery duration, and the surgical approach taken. Accurate prediction and personalized mitigation of SSI risk are crucial for improving surgical outcomes. While prior studies have focused on SSI rates after open and laparoscopic gastric cancer surgeries, it is important to also consider robot-assisted procedures.
