Objectives: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) on the changes of behavior and hippocampal inflammatory factors in rats with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), so as to explore its possible mechanisms in the treatment of CFS.
Methods: Twenty-seven SD rats were randomly divided into control, model and electroacupuncture (EA) groups (=9 rats in each group). The CFS model was established by multi-factor compound stress stimulation method.

Objective: Polypeptide LTX-315 induces immunogenic cell death, thus having the potential to improve the effect of anticancer treatment. However, the function of LTX-315 in reversing chemoresistance in ovarian cancer (OC) still remains elusive. Our study aims to decipher the effect of LTX-315 on reversing the chemoresistance of OC cells and explore its mechanism.

Backgrounds/aims: It has been reported that myocardial infarction (MI) is a risk factor for vascular dementia. However, the molecular mechanism remains largely unknown.
Methods: MI mice were generated by ligation of the left coronary artery (LCA) for 4 weeks.

Background: Long-term outcome of drug-eluting stents (DES) for ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) versus non-ST-elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS) remains unclear. This study sought to compare the long-term outcomes of biodegradable polymer-coated DES in patients with STEMI versus NSTE-ACS.
Methods: We explored a post hoc analysis of the 5-year outcome of the CREATE trial in the subgroup of patients with STEMI (n=318) versus NSTE-ACS (n=1223) who were implanted with biodegradable polymer-coated DES.

Background: Post-stroke depression (PSD) is commonly observed among stroke survivors. However, statistical analysis of such data is scarce in developing countries. The purpose of this study is to examine the incidence of PSD and its relationship with stroke characteristics in China.

In addition to pharmacological treatment of ischemic stroke, hypothermia has been proposed to be a therapeutic option for protecting brain cells from ischemic death. Less is known about the molecular mechanisms underlying this hypothermic protection of ischemic cells, which we have investigated in rats. In four groups of experiments, ischemia under the conditions of normothermia and mild hypothermia as well as sham-operation under these two conditions, we have analyzed quantitatively the score of neurological impairment and the expression of second mitochondrion -derived activator of caspases (SMAC), an index of cellular apoptosis.

The prion protein peptide PrP106-126 induces cell apoptosis through mechanisms involving production of intracellular reactive oxygen species. The present study investigated the effects of edaravone, a potent free radical scavenger in clinical use, on cell cytotoxicity induced by PrP106-126. Results showed that PrP106-126 decreased PC12 cell viability in a dose- and time-dependent manner.

Aim: To determine the clinical features of hepatic myelopathy (HM), a rare condition associated with chronic liver disease (CLD), in patients in the city of Harbin, China.
Methods: The medical files of 13 patients with HM were selected from 500 randomly chosen files of CLD patients registered in four Harbin hospitals. General information on all cases was summarised and clinical features were compared between HM positive patients (HM group) and HM negative CLD patients (control group).

Objective: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of Firebird drug-eluting stent (DES) combining Tirofiban and Cypher DES combining Tirofiban in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS).
Methods: 323 ACS patients were divided into 2 general conditions-matched groups: Firebird group (n = 161) undergoing Firebird DES implantation and Tirofiban intravenous injection 10 microg x kg(-1) within 3 minutes followed by Tirofiban 0.15 microg x kg(-1) x min(-1) intravenous maintenance infusion with micro pump for 36 hours, and Cypher group (n = 162) undergoing Cypher DES implantation and Tirofiban.

Objective: To investigate the prevalence, rates of awareness, treatment, and control, and risk factors of hypertension among the residents in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province.
Methods: 5523 residents, 2325 males and 3198 females, aged 15 and over, underwent questionnaire survey to understand their general conditions, history of present disease, awareness of disease, treatment, working condition, etc, and measurement of blood pressure (BP), height, body mass, and serum glucose and triglyceride.
Results: The no-standardized prevalence of hypertension was 31.

Objective: To explore a more effective therapy for retention of urine induced by spinal cord injury.
Methods: Eighty-four cases were randomly divided into a treatment group of 46 cases and a control group of 38 cases. The treatment group were treated with electroacupuncture at Baliao and Huiyang (BL 35), and the control group with electroacupuncture at acupoints routinely selected.

Objective: To explore the effect of electroacupuncture on myoelectric activity of Jejunal limb after Roux-en-Y esophagojejunostomy.
Methods: Fourteen health young pigs were randomly divided into 2 groups, an experimental group (total gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y esophagojejunostomy was carried out) and a control group (the abdominal cavity was closed after the electrode was placed), 7 pigs in each group. Electroacupunture was given at "Zusanli" (ST 36) in the experimental group.

Objective: To investigate cardiac effects of arsenic trioxide (As(2)O(3)) at conventional dosage in acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) patients.
Methods: The basical heart rate, electrocardiograph, plasma As(2)O(3) concentration of APL patients were dynamically monitored. The action potential duration and current of I(Ca-L) in guinea pig cardiac ventricular myocytes were assayed by patch clamp technique, and the elevated cytosolic [Ca(2+)]i of guinea pig ventricular myocytes induced by As(2)O(3) by laser confocal microscopy.
