Division of Systems Bioengineering, Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan.

Mongolian people possess a unique dietary habit characterized by high consumption of meat and dairy products and fewer vegetables, resulting in the highest obesity rate in East Asia. Although obesity is a known cause of type 2 diabetes (T2D), the T2D rate is moderate in this population; this is known as the "Mongolian paradox." Since the gut microbiota plays a key role in energy and metabolic homeostasis as an interface between food and body, we investigated gut microbial factors involved in the prevention of the co-occurrence of T2D with obesity in Mongolians.

Background: COVID-19 vaccine booster doses restore vaccine effectiveness lost from waning immunity and emerging variants. Fractional dosing may improve COVID-19 booster acceptability and uptake and will reduce the per-dose cost of COVID-19 booster programmes. We sought to quantify the immunogenicity, reactogenicity, and safety of a half-dose BNT162b2 (Pfizer-BioNTech) booster relative to the standard formulation.

Background: Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has had a significant impact globally, and extensive genomic research has been conducted on severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) lineage patterns and its variants. Mongolia's effective response resulted in low prevalence until vaccinations became available. However, due to the lack of systematically collected data and absence of whole genome sequencing capabilities, we conducted a two-stepped, nationally representative molecular epidemiologic study of SARS-CoV-2 in Mongolia for 2020 and 2021.

Article Synopsis
  • The Asia-Pacific Blood and Marrow Transplantation Group (APBMT) has been surveying hematopoietic stem cell transplant activities annually since 2007, collecting data from 21,504 transplants in 2017 across 733 centers in 20 countries/regions.
  • Five countries—China, Japan, South Korea, India, and Australia—accounted for 89.4% of transplants, with Japan and China also hosting the majority of transplant centers.
  • The study revealed significant variations in transplant types between countries, with autologous transplants more common in some regions like Thailand and Australia, while allogeneic transplants dominated in others like Pakistan and China; acute myeloid leukemia was the

Chronic HCV infection remains a global health concern due to its involvement in hepatic and extrahepatic diseases, including B cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (BNHL). Clinical and epidemiological evidence support a causal role for HCV in BNHL development, although mechanistic insight is lacking. We performed RNA-sequencing on peripheral B cells from patients with HCV alone, BNHL alone, and HCV-associated BNHL to identify unique and shared transcriptional profiles associated with transformation.

To conduct a rapid preliminary COVID-19 screening prior to polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test under clinical settings, including patient's body moving conditions in a non-contact manner, we developed a mobile and vital-signs-based infection screening composite-type camera (VISC-Camera) with truncus motion removal algorithm (TMRA) to screen for possibly infected patients. The VISC-Camera incorporates a stereo depth camera for respiratory rate (RR) determination, a red-green-blue (RGB) camera for heart rate (HR) estimation, and a thermal camera for body temperature (BT) measurement. In addition to the body motion removal algorithm based on the region of interest (ROI) tracking for RR, HR, and BT determination, we adopted TMRA for RR estimation.
