Background: Primary vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) is a common congenital anomaly of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT) in childhood. The present study identified the possible genetic contributions to primary VUR in children.
Methods: Patients with primary VUR were enrolled and analysed based on a national multi-center registration network (Chinese Children Genetic Kidney Disease Database, CCGKDD) that covered 23 different provinces/regions in China from 2014 to 2019.

Background: Double kissing (DK) crush approach for patients with coronary bifurcation lesions, particularly localized at distal left main or lesions with increased complexity, is associated with significant reduction in clinical events when compared with provisional stenting. Recently, randomized clinical trial has demonstrated the net clinical benefits by intravascular ultrasound (IVUS)-guided implantation of drug-eluting stent in all-comers. However, the improvement in clinical outcome after DK crush treatment guided by IVUS over angiography guidance for patients with complex bifurcation lesions have never been studied in a randomized fashion.

Introduction: Transient hepatic attenuation differences (THAD) are areas of high parenchymal enhancement observed during the hepatic arterial phase on computed tomography (CT). THAD in the left lobe of the liver can lead to surgical complications.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on patients who underwent multislice computed tomography (MSCT) examination of the upper abdomen to understand the morphology, distribution, and causes of THAD and their correlation with hepatic artery variation.

Adhesion is a postoperative complication that has plagued gynecologists for many years, as 60-90% of gynecological patients develop adhesions after abdominopelvic surgeries. Abdominopelvic adhesions could lead to chronic pelvic pain, infertility, intestinal obstruction, and complicated reoperations. Adhesions might also increase the risk of postoperative chemoradiotherapy failure and endanger patients' lives, especially after surgeries for gynecological malignant tumors.

Objective: We investigated scoliosis incidence among junior high school students in Zhongshan city, Guangdong, China and the expression of miR-30e among those with scoliosis.
Methods: A total 41,258 students were included. From July 2015 to December 2017, all students underwent screening including routine observation of the standing and sitting posture, Adam's forward bend test, dorsal tilt angle measurement, and X-ray examination.
Background: Haploidentical donor (HID) allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is an alternative curative treatment for patients with severe aplastic anemia (SAA) who do not have suitable matched related donors (MRD). The aim of this study was to compare the therapeutic outcomes of HID-HSCT with those of MRD-HSCT for SAA.
Methods: A total of 235 SAA patients who underwent HID-HSCT (116) or MRD-HSCT (119) at 11 transplantation centers from January 2007 to January 2016 were included.

This clinical study investigated plasma NT-proBNP levels as a potential predictor of heart failure in pediatric patients with sepsis. Plasma NT-ProBNP levels of 211 pediatric patients with sepsis and 126 healthy children were measured. Patients were stratified as with heart failure (HF) or without heart failure (non-HF).

In an attempt to establish the advantages of fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) studies over conventional cytogenetic (CC) analysis, a total of 2302 de novo MDS patients from 31 Chinese institutions were prospectively selected in the present study for both CC and standardized FISH analysis for +8, -7/7q-, -5/5q-, 20q- and-Y chromosomal abnormalities. CC analysis was successful in 94.0% of the patients; of these patients, 35.

Breast cancer (BC) is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality in females and is recognized as a molecularly heterogeneous disease. Previous studies have suggested that alternative messenger RNA (mRNA) processing, particularly alternative polyadenylation [poly(A)] (APA), can be a powerful molecular biomarker with prognostic potential. Therefore, in the present study, we profiled APA sites in the luminal B subtype of BC by sequencing APA sites (SAPAS) method, in order to assess the relation of these APA site-switching events to the recognized molecular subtypes of BC, and to discover novel candidate genes and pathways in BC.

We performed a meta-analysis for systematic evaluation of the status quo of catheter thrombolysis for the treatment of acute lower limb deep vein thrombosis in China. We searched the China Biomedical bibliographic database (CBM), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Weipu full-text electronic journals, Wanfang full-text database, and Medline (1990 through June 2011) for clinical randomized controlled trials of catheter-directed thrombolysis and superficial venous thrombolysis to compare their efficacies for the treatment of acute deep vein thrombosis. The results were analyzed by using the Cochrane-recommended RevMan 4.

Background: Iliosacral resection of pelvic malignant tumors and subsequent reconstruction have tested the ingenuity of orthopedic oncologists because of the difficulty of oncological wide resection and the complex biomechanics of the sacroiliac joint render reconstruction challenging. This study compared the functional and surgical outcomes of a biological reconstruction technique with the lack of reconstruction following iliosacral resection.
Methods: Twenty-six consecutive cases with malignant iliac tumors involving the sacrum were retrospectively reviewed.
Background: Platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 (PECAM-1), also known as CD31, is mainly distributed in vascular endothelial cells. Studies have shown that PECAM-1 is a very significant indicator of angiogenesis, and has been used as an indicator for vascular endothelial cells. The present study aimed to explore the relationship between the expression of PECAM-1 and the degree of acute lung injury (ALI) and fibrosis in paraquat (PQ) induced lung injury in rabbits.

Background: From 30% to 40% patients with osteosarcoma eventually experience medical failure; and few biomarkers of prognostic significance have been established. High-throughput methods like gene microarray analysis can help to identify molecular biomarkers that are useful for diagnosing osteosarcoma and targeting its treatment.
Methods: Oligonucleotide microarrays were used to compare expression profiles of osteosarcoma cell lines and osteoblasts.

This study was designed to determine whether FPS-1, the water-soluble polysaccharide isolated from fuzi, protected against hepatic damage in hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats, and its mechanism. SD rats were subjected to 60 min of hepatic ischemia, followed by 120 min reperfusion. FPS-1 (160 mg/kg/day) was administered orally for 5 days before ischemia-reperfusion injury in treatment group.

Objective: To compare the efficacy and tolerability of the regimen FOLFOX [1eucovorin (LV), 5-fluorouracil (5-Fu) and oxaliplatin] and the regimen PLF (Paclitaxel, leucovorin and 5-Fu) for treatment of advanced gastric adenocarcinoma.
Methods: We retrospectively studied the clinical data of 132 patients with stage IV gastric adenocarcinoma treated by FOLFOX (group A, n=60) or PLF (group B, n=72). The tumor response rate, toxicity, time to progress (TTP) and overall survival (OS) were compared between the two groups.
