Article Synopsis
  • Congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tracts (CAKUT) are a major cause of kidney failure in children, and the study aimed to explore the genetic diversity and identify risk factors for kidney failure among these children.
  • Researchers analyzed clinical and genetic data from 925 children with CAKUT across China, finding that 10.3% had a genetic diagnosis, with certain genetic variants being linked to an increased risk of kidney failure.
  • The study identified specific prognostic factors for kidney failure, such as having a solitary kidney, certain variants, and being born prematurely, highlighting the need for targeted monitoring in at-risk populations.

Background: Double kissing (DK) crush approach for patients with coronary bifurcation lesions, particularly localized at distal left main or lesions with increased complexity, is associated with significant reduction in clinical events when compared with provisional stenting. Recently, randomized clinical trial has demonstrated the net clinical benefits by intravascular ultrasound (IVUS)-guided implantation of drug-eluting stent in all-comers. However, the improvement in clinical outcome after DK crush treatment guided by IVUS over angiography guidance for patients with complex bifurcation lesions have never been studied in a randomized fashion.

Introduction: Transient hepatic attenuation differences (THAD) are areas of high parenchymal enhancement observed during the hepatic arterial phase on computed tomography (CT). THAD in the left lobe of the liver can lead to surgical complications.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on patients who underwent multislice computed tomography (MSCT) examination of the upper abdomen to understand the morphology, distribution, and causes of THAD and their correlation with hepatic artery variation.

Chinese expert consensus on the prevention of abdominal pelvic adhesions after gynecological tumor surgeries.

Ann Transl Med

February 2020

Department of Genecology and Obstetrics, Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing 100011, China.

Adhesion is a postoperative complication that has plagued gynecologists for many years, as 60-90% of gynecological patients develop adhesions after abdominopelvic surgeries. Abdominopelvic adhesions could lead to chronic pelvic pain, infertility, intestinal obstruction, and complicated reoperations. Adhesions might also increase the risk of postoperative chemoradiotherapy failure and endanger patients' lives, especially after surgeries for gynecological malignant tumors.

In an attempt to establish the advantages of fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) studies over conventional cytogenetic (CC) analysis, a total of 2302 de novo MDS patients from 31 Chinese institutions were prospectively selected in the present study for both CC and standardized FISH analysis for +8, -7/7q-, -5/5q-, 20q- and-Y chromosomal abnormalities. CC analysis was successful in 94.0% of the patients; of these patients, 35.

Breast cancer (BC) is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality in females and is recognized as a molecularly heterogeneous disease. Previous studies have suggested that alternative messenger RNA (mRNA) processing, particularly alternative polyadenylation [poly(A)] (APA), can be a powerful molecular biomarker with prognostic potential. Therefore, in the present study, we profiled APA sites in the luminal B subtype of BC by sequencing APA sites (SAPAS) method, in order to assess the relation of these APA site-switching events to the recognized molecular subtypes of BC, and to discover novel candidate genes and pathways in BC.

We performed a meta-analysis for systematic evaluation of the status quo of catheter thrombolysis for the treatment of acute lower limb deep vein thrombosis in China. We searched the China Biomedical bibliographic database (CBM), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Weipu full-text electronic journals, Wanfang full-text database, and Medline (1990 through June 2011) for clinical randomized controlled trials of catheter-directed thrombolysis and superficial venous thrombolysis to compare their efficacies for the treatment of acute deep vein thrombosis. The results were analyzed by using the Cochrane-recommended RevMan 4.

Background: Iliosacral resection of pelvic malignant tumors and subsequent reconstruction have tested the ingenuity of orthopedic oncologists because of the difficulty of oncological wide resection and the complex biomechanics of the sacroiliac joint render reconstruction challenging. This study compared the functional and surgical outcomes of a biological reconstruction technique with the lack of reconstruction following iliosacral resection.

Methods: Twenty-six consecutive cases with malignant iliac tumors involving the sacrum were retrospectively reviewed.

Background: Platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 (PECAM-1), also known as CD31, is mainly distributed in vascular endothelial cells. Studies have shown that PECAM-1 is a very significant indicator of angiogenesis, and has been used as an indicator for vascular endothelial cells. The present study aimed to explore the relationship between the expression of PECAM-1 and the degree of acute lung injury (ALI) and fibrosis in paraquat (PQ) induced lung injury in rabbits.
