Article Synopsis
  • - The study aims to explore how the preoperative systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) affects relapse-free survival (RFS) in patients with mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) following surgery.
  • - Analysis of data from 135 MEC patients revealed that those with a lower SII had significantly better survival rates, and factors like high SII, low tumor differentiation, and cervical lymph node metastasis were linked to poor RFS.
  • - A nomogram model was developed based on these findings to effectively predict RFS, confirming that lower preoperative SII correlates with better patient outcomes.

Advances in nerve guidance conduits for peripheral nerve repair and regeneration.

Am J Stem Cells

December 2023

Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Affiliated Drum Tower Hospital of Nanjing University Medical School, Jiangsu Provincial Key Medical Discipline (Laboratory) Nanjing 210003, Jiangsu, China.

Peripheral nerve injury (PNI) can cause partial or total motor and sensory nerve function, leading to physical disability and nerve pain that severely affects patients' quality of life. Autologous nerve transplantation is currently the clinically recognized gold standard, but due to its inherent limitations, researchers have been searching for alternative treatments. Nerve guidance conduits (NGCs) have attracted much attention as a favorable alternative to promote the repair and regeneration of damaged peripheral nerves.

Purpose: To analyze the biomechanical properties of the right mandibular second premolar with deep wedge-shaped defects under static and dynamic loads by finite element method, so as to select appropriate repair method in clinic.

Methods: To establish the deep wedge-shaped defect model of the right mandibular second premolar, the unrepaired model after root canal treatment was used as the control group, and resin filling (group A), resin filling after post restoration (group B), crown restoration after resin filling (group C), post and crown restoration after resin filling (group D) were used as the experimental groups. According to different materials, group B and group D were further divided into fiber post (B1, D1) group and pure Ti post (B2, D2) group.

By integrating network pharmacology and animal experiments, we studied the pharmacodynamic mechanism of the Tibetan medicine Liurui Capsules in the treatment of experimental autoimmune uveitis(EAU). The active ingredients and targets of Liurui Capsules were searched against the Encyclopedia of Traditional Chinese Medicine(ETCM), Bioinformatics Analysis Tool for Molecular Mechanism of Traditional Chinese Medicine(BATMAN-TCM), and relevant literatures. The EAU-related targets were obtained from Gene Expression Omnibus(GEO), GeneCards, Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man(OMIM), and Therapeutic Target Database(TTD).

Exosome-encapsulated microRNAs (miRNAs) have been identified as potential cancer biomarkers and pro-tumorigenic mediators for several cancers. However, the miRNA profiling in BCa-Exo (exosomes from plasma of patients with bladder cancer) has not yet been explored. Hence, the aim of this study was to analyze the miRNA profiling in BCa-Exo and to explore the function and mechanism of the selected miR-4644 in BCa progression.

Skin itching is a subjective sensation that causes the desire to scratch. It is one of the most common clinical symptoms at department of dermatology, even the only complaint of dermatological patients, which seriously affects the quality life of patients. Therefore, based on the software of traditional Chinese medicine inheritance auxiliary platform, association rules and complex system entropy clustering were adopted to collect and analyze Zhang Bing's prescriptions for skin itching, and get the drug use frequency and the relationship between drugs.
