Background: Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a most common microbiological syndrome. The use of molecular methods, such as multiplex real-time PCR (mPCR) and next-generation sequencing, has revolutionized our understanding of microbial communities. Here, we aimed to use a novel multiplex PCR test to evaluate the microbial composition and dominant lactobacilli in non-pregnant women with BV, and combined with machine learning algorithms to determine its diagnostic significance.

Background: ARF family proteins are a kind of small GTPases, which are involved in regulating a variety of basic functions of cells. In recent years, the role and molecular regulatory mechanisms of ARFs in tumor progression have received increasing attention, and research reports on most of their family members are increasing. However, research on the clinical and pathological relevance of ARF5 in cancer, especially in hepatocellular carcinoma, still needs to be improved.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is characterized by chronic inflammatory processes of the intestinal tract of unknown origin. Current treatments lack understanding on how to effectively alleviate oxidative stress, relieve inflammation, as well as modulate gut microbiota for maintaining intestinal homeostasis synchronously. In this study, a novel drug delivery system based on a metal polyphenol network (MPN) was constructed via metal coordination between epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and Fe.

CRISPR/Cas systems have become integral parts of nucleic acid detection apparatus and biosensors. Various CRISPR/Cas systems such as CRISPR/Cas9, CRISPR/Cas12, CRISPR/Cas13, CRISPR/Cas14 and CRISPR/Cas3 utilize different mechanisms to detect or differentiate biological activities and nucleotide sequences. Usually, CRISPR/Cas-based nucleic acid detection systems are combined with polymerase chain reaction, loop-mediated isothermal amplification, recombinase polymerase amplification and transcriptional technologies for effective diagnostics.

Aim: To evaluate the effect of aging on pulmonary vessels based on computed tomography (CT) quantification and analyse the correlation between quantitative pulmonary vascular volume and pulmonary function during aging.
Materials And Methods: A total of 330 healthy adult volunteers, including 161 men (53 aged 20-39 years, 61 aged 40-59 years, and 47 aged ≥60 years) and 169 women (53 aged 20-39 years, 63 aged 40-59 years, and 53 aged ≥60 years) were recruited in this study. AVIEW software was used to quantitatively measure pulmonary vascular volume, including pulmonary total blood vessel volume (TBV) and small blood vessel volume with a cross-sectional area of <5 mm (BV5).

To evaluate the prevalence and quality of antimicrobial prescriptions using a Global Point Prevalence Survey (PPS) tool and help identify targets for improvement of antimicrobial prescribing and inform the development of antimicrobial stewardship activities. Antimicrobial prescriptions for inpatients staying at a hospital overnight were surveyed on one weekday in October 2018, November 2019, and November 2020. Data including basic patient information, antimicrobial drugs, quality evaluation of antimicrobial drug prescription, and the risk factors of nosocomial infection were collected from doctor network workstation.

Background: Obese patients have been found to be susceptible to iron deficiency, and malabsorption of dietary iron is the cause of obesity-related iron deficiency (ORID). Divalent metal transporter 1 (DMT1) and ferroportin (FPN), are two transmembrane transporter proteins expressed in the duodenum that are closely associated with iron absorption. However, there have been few studies on the association between these two proteins and the increased susceptibility to iron deficiency in obese patients.

Objective: To investigate the expression of WTAP, a mA methylase, in a mouse model of renal ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury and the effect of WTAP knockdown on biological behavior of renal tubular epithelial cells exposed to I/R injury.
Methods: Sixteen C57BL/6 mice with renal I/R injury or sham operation (=8) were examined for blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine (Scr) levels to assess renal function, and renal pathologies were observed with HE staining. The expressions of WTAP and FOXO1 proteins in the kidneys of the mice were detected using immunohistochemistry.

Background: Diabetes is common yet challenging chronic disease, that affects a wide range of people around the world. Complex cellular environments around diabetic wounds tend to damage the function of effector cells, including vascular endothelial cells (VECs), fibroblasts and epithelial cells. This study aims to analyze the differences between diabetic wounds and normal skin as well as whether adipose-derived stem cell (ADSC) exosome could promote healing of diabetic wound.

The clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic DNA sequence repeats (CRISPR) and CRISPR-associated (Cas) (CRISPR/Cas) systems are currently applied not only as a gene editing tool but also as a novel molecular diagnostic technique. The CRISPR/Cas systems have emerged as an efficient molecular diagnostic system that can detect nucleic acids, proteins and small molecule compounds, by converting a non-nucleic acid into a nucleic acid signal of Cas-identifiable and keeping inherent properties of high sensitivity and specificity. While its multiple advantages for nucleic acid detection have been widely published in excellent reviews, there have been no systematic analyses and reviews on the principles and characteristics of CRISPR/Cas-based diagnostic systems for non-nucleic acids.

Background: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) has a poor prognosis because of its high degree of malignancy and the lack of effective treatment options. Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) comprise the most abundant stromal cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME), leading to functional impairments and facilitating tumor metastasis. Excessive TNF-α further promotes cross-talk between different cells in TME.

Mechanosensitive channels (MS channels) are membrane proteins capable of responding to mechanical stress over a wide dynamic range of external mechanical stimuli. In recent years, it has been found that MS channels play an important role as "sentinels" in the process of cell sensing and response to extracellular and intracellular force signals. There is growing appreciation for mechanical activation of ion channels and their subsequent initiation of downstream signaling pathways.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a refractory chronic inflammatory disease involving the colon and rectum, falling under the category of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in local tissues has been identified as a crucial contributor to the escalation of inflammatory responses. Therefore, eliminating ROS in the inflamed colon is a promising approach to treating UC.

An autoimmune disease, rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is characterized by the onset of inflammation and subsequent damage to the joints. Although several therapies are available for RA, none are effective, and many have undesirable side effects. The roots of Sinomenium acutum produce an alkaloid called Sinomenine (SIN), which has been used for centuries in Chinese medicine to treat arthritis due to its anti-inflammatory properties.
