Background: Compelling evidence suggests that calcium/phosphorus homeostasis-related parameters may be linked to diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular events. However, few studies have investigated the association of fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23), α-klotho and FGF23/α-klotho ratio with atherosclerosis in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
Objective: This study was designed to evaluate whether FGF23, α-klotho and FGF23/α-klotho ratio are associated with T2DM and further to explore the relationships between these three factors and atherosclerosis in Chinese patients with T2DM.

Background: The efficacy of neoadjuvant chemo-immunotherapy (NAT) in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is challenged by the intricate interplay within the tumor microenvironment (TME). Unveiling the immune landscape of ESCC in the context of NAT could shed light on heterogeneity and optimize therapeutic strategies for patients.
Methods: We analyzed single cells from 22 baseline and 24 post-NAT treatment samples of stage II/III ESCC patients to explore the association between the immune landscape and pathological response to neoadjuvant anti-PD-1 combination therapy, including pathological complete response (pCR), major pathological response (MPR), and incomplete pathological response (IPR).

Magnesium-doped nanohydroxyapatite (Mg-nHA) has good bone conductivity, biological activity, flexural strength, and fracture toughness due to particle doping technology, making it an ideal candidate material for biomedical applications. In this Review, we have systematically presented the synthesis methods of Mg-nHA and their application in the field of biomedical science and highlighted the pros and cons of each method.

Hydrogels is a hydrophilic, cross-linked polymer of three-dimensional network structures. The application of hydrogels prepared from a single polymer in the biomedical field has many drawbacks. The functional blend of polyvinyl alcohol and chitosan allows hydrogels to have better and more desirable properties than those produced from a single polymer, which is a good biomaterial for development and design.

Objective: The aim of this study is to assess the relationship between T-lymphocyte subsets, regulatory T cells (Treg), and hepatic fibrosis in patients with a nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 64 NAFLD patients (research group) and 73 healthy subjects (control group) in our hospital from January 2020 to December 2021. T-lymphocyte subsets (Th17) and Treg, liver function (alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST)), hepatic fibrosis indexes (type III procollagen (PCIII), type IV collagen (CIV), laminin (LN), hyaluronic acid (HA)), inflammatory factors (high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), interleukin 6 (IL-6), interleukin-8 (IL-8)), and oxidative stress (OS) response ((superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), malondialdehyde (MDA)) were tested.

Objective: It aimed to explore the diagnostic efficacy of multimodal ultrasound images based on mask region with convolutional neural network (M-RCNN) segmentation algorithm for small liver cancer and analyze the expression of zeste gene enhancer homolog 2 (EZH2) and p57 (P57 Kip2) genes in cancer cells.
Methods: A total of 100 patients suspected of small liver cancer were randomly divided into Doppler group (color Doppler ultrasound examination), contrast group (contrast ultrasound examination), elastic group (ultrasound elastography examination), and multimodal group (combined examination of the three methods), with 25 patients in each group. Images were processed by the M-RCNN segmentation algorithm.

Our objective was to compare the effectiveness of natural cycles (NC), modified natural cycle (mNC), and artificial cycles (AC) in women undergoing frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) after in vitro fertilization (IVF). This is a retrospective cohort study analyzing 9733 women undergoing the first cycle of FET over a 3-year period (June 2014-December 2017) at Northwest Women's and Children's Hospital after IVF-ICSI cycles. The type of endometrial preparation was determined by the treating physician's preference, based on patients' characteristics.
