For the past few years, the environmental safety problems of radioactive nuclides caused wide public concern. In this work, the dodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide-modified silicon dioxide composite (DTAB/SiO) was synthesized for the elimination of uranium. The dodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide can decorate the surface of the silicon dioxide and change its surface topography, which can offer more active sites and functional groups for the combination of U(VI).

Background: Microscopic polyangiitis (MPA), an autoimmune disease, is a subtype of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis. The lungs and kidneys are the most common targets, whereas spinal cord involvement is rare.
Methods: We reported the clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and management of a patient with spinal cord MPA.

Pericytes play essential roles in blood-brain barrier (BBB) integrity and dysfunction or degeneration of pericytes is implicated in a set of neurological disorders although the underlying mechanism remains largely unknown. However, the scarcity of material sources hinders the application of BBB models in vitro for pathophysiological studies. Additionally, whether pericytes can be used to treat neurological disorders remains to be elucidated.

Background: Spinal neurofibromatosis (SNF) is a related form of Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) with a low incidence. Here, we report a SNF patient with NF1 (OMIM *613113) mutation in a classic NF1 family to enrich the case data.
Methods: We presented the clinical data of a 27-year-old female suffered from SNF.

Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate--3-hydroxyhexanoate) (PHBHHx) is a polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) with broad application prospects in various biomedical fields. Our previous study demonstrated the great biocompatibility of PHBHHx with neural stem cells (NSCs) . In this study, we went a step further and implanted the NSC-carrying PHBHHx film to into the lesion region in a rat traumatic brain injury (TBI) model.

High levels of angiogenesis are associated with poor prognosis in patients with gliomas. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying tumor angiogenesis remain unclear. The effect of homeobox C10 (HOXC10) on tube formation, migration, and proliferation of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and on chicken chorioallantoic membranes (CAMs) was examined.

Gliomas are a lethal class of brain cancer, with a median survival below 15 months in spite of therapeutic advances. The poor prognosis of this disease is largely attributed to acquired chemotherapy resistance, and new strategies are urgently needed to target resistant glioma cells. Herein, our study demonstrated that tripartite motif-containing 14 (TRIM14) overexpressed in glioma specimens (including tissues and cell lines), and that high level of TRIM14 predicted poor outcome of glioma patients.

Gliomas are common, aggressive central nervous system tumors with poor overall survival rates. Despite improvements in neurosurgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, the outcomes of patients with malignant gliomas remain poor. Therefore, increased knowledge of the molecular mechanisms that regulate glioma progression is crucial to identify novel therapeutic targets.

Background: The prognosis of human astrocytoma is poor, and the molecular alterations underlying its pathogenesis still needed to be elucidated. Nucleolar and spindle associated protein 1 (NUSAP1) was observed in several types of cancers, but its role in astrocytoma remained unknown.
Methods: The expression of NUSAP1 in astrocytoma cell lines and tissues were measured with western blotting and Real-Time PCR.

Cytarabine (Ara-C) in consolidation therapy played important role in preventing relapses for AML patients achieved complete remission, but the optimum dose remains elusive. In this network meta-analysis, we compared benefit and safety of high-, intermediate- and low-dose Ara-C [HDAraC (>2 g/m, ≤3 g/m twice daily), IDAraC (≥1 g/m, ≤2 g/m twice daily) and LDAraC (<1 g/m twice day)] in consolidation, based on ten randomized phase III/IV trials from 1994 to 2016, which included 4008 adult AML patients. According to the results, HDAraC in a dosage of 3 g/m twice daily significantly improved disease-free survival (DFS) compared with IDAraC [hazard rate (HR) 0.

Overexpression of structural maintenance of chromosomes 4 (SMC4) has been reported to be involved in tumor cell growth, migration and invasion, and to be correlated with poor prognosis of cancer patient. However, its clinical significance and biological role in glioma remain unknown. Herein, we found that SMC4 expression at both mRNA and protein level was markedly increased in glioma cells and clinical tissues and that it correlated with poor prognosis.

Neural stem cells (NSCs) migration is essential for neurogenesis and neuroregeneration after brain injury. Nestin, a widely used marker of NSCs, is expressed abundantly in several cancers, where it may correlate with tumor migration and invasion. However, it is not yet known whether nestin participates in NSC migration.
