Circadian rhythm refers to the daily rhythmic variations in an organism. The irregular lifestyles of modern humans have led to a high incidence of chronic diseases, highlighting an inseparable relationship between disrupted circadian rhythm and disease development. TCM has long discussed rhythmic variations, with records dating back to the Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon(Huang Di Nei Jing), which laid a rich theoretical foundation for the research on circadian rhythm.

Purpose: This study evaluated the effect of hot etching with two acid solutions on the surface topography and bond strength of zirconia.

Methods: Firstly, twenty-four pieces of zirconia with a size of 10 mm×10 mm×2 mm and 20 pieces of zirconia with a size of 3 mm×3 mm×2 mm were prepared. Then pieces were divided into four groups, and dealt with separately according to the following groups: no treatment (group A), sandblasting (group B), hot etching with HCl(group C), hot etching with HF(group D).

Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) accounts for 75% of the total incidence of renal cancer, and every year the number of morbidity and mortality increases, posing a serious threat to public health. The current main treatment methods for kidney cancer include drug-targeted therapy and immunotherapy. Although there are many treatment options for kidney cancer, they all have limitations, including drug resistance, unsatisfied long-term benefits, and adverse effects.

Automated brain structures segmentation in positron emission tomography (PET) images has been widely investigated to help brain disease diagnosis and follow-up. To relieve the burden of a manual definition of volume of interest (VOI), automated atlas-based VOI definition algorithms were developed, but these algorithms mostly adopted a global optimization strategy which may not be particularly accurate for local small structures (especially the deep brain structures). This paper presents a PET/CT-based brain VOI segmentation algorithm combining anatomical atlas, local landmarks, and dual-modality information.

Severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) is a serious abdominal disease associated with increased morbidity and high mortality rates. The initial pancreatic injury and inflammatory response, which begins within acinar cells, play vital roles in promoting SAP severity. Previous studies have indicated that overactivated autophagy in acinar cells increases the risk of SAP.

Osteoporosis fracture with high disability and mortality is a difficult problem that seriously affects the life quality of individuals. At present, there is still a lack of anti-osteoporosis drugs with clear target and significant efficacy in the clinical practice. Rehmanniae Radix and its prescriptions have significant clinical effects.

Fatty acid extracts facilitate cutaneous wound healing through activating AKT, ERK, and TGF-β/Smad3 signaling and promoting angiogenesis.

Am J Transl Res

February 2020

Department of Orthopedics, The First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University, Institute (College) of Integrative Medicine, Dalian Medical University Dalian 116011, China.

Fatty acids (FAs) are potential therapeutic agents for cutaneous wound healing; however, the mechanisms underlying this effect have not been clearly defined. In this study, we extracted and characterized FAs from dried larvae and investigated the molecular basis by which FAs promote cutaneous wound healing. We first confirmed that FA sodium salts (FASSs) stimulated proliferation, migration, and tube formation of cultured (HUVECs) in a dose-dependent manner.

Numerous studies have revealed that the status of intestinal microbiota has a marked impact on inflammation, which may progressively aggravate the systemic inflammatory response caused by acute pancreatitis (AP). However, our understanding of microbial communities in the intestinal tract is still very limited. Therefore, the aim of this paper is deciphering bacterial community changes in AP rats.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small regulatory non-coding RNAs that have been reported to play an important role in a variety of cellular functions. Recent studies indicated that some miRNAs are involved in regulating endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress adaptation. However, the miRNAs were still unknown in osteosarcoma.

Accompanied by the increasing demand for organ transplants and personalized medicine, recent years have witnessed great developments in the regeneration of tissues/organs, which has benefited from various manufacturing technologies, especially 3D bioprinting. In 3D bioprinting, according to the morphogenesis, cellular microenvironment, and biological functions of the native tissues/organs, cells and biomaterials are printed by layer-by-layer assembly to form 3D bio-functional units. However, there are still substantial differences between existing 3D printed constructs and actual tissues and organs, especially in microscale structures such as vascular networks.

In this study, we investigate the morphologic changes of enteric nerve system (ENS) and the expression of neurotransmitters, acetylcholine (ACh), substance P (SP), vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) and nitric oxide synthase (NOS), in small bowel of rats undergoing multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). Undergoing MODS, fluorescence integral optical density (IOD) value of enteric nerve fibers were significantly decreased (P<0.05), and the network structure of ENS was destroyed.

Background: Chinese herb Radix Bupleuri has been regarded effective to improve treatment of depression, but the molecular mechanism remains unknown. Low levels of nerve growth factor (NGF) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) increase the likelihood of developing the depression. Therefore, we want to know whether Radix Bupleuri affects the levels of these factors.

Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Dalian Medical University Dalian 116044, Liaoning, China.

Embryo implantation is regarded as a critical physiological process for the success of pregnancy. There are so many reports on the research of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) in artificial insemination, but the impact of HCG on endometrial receptivity has not been elucidated. Beta1, 4-Galactosyltransferase-I (β1,4-GalT-I) is ubiquitously expresses in human tissues with the exception of the brain.
