Background: There is a well-established relationship between liver conditions and cardiovascular diseases. However, uncertainty persists regarding the contribution of liver fibrosis to major stroke types including ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, and subarachnoid hemorrhage at the population level.
Methods: In this large prospective cohort study, participants without previous stroke or coronary heart disease at baseline from the UK Biobank were included.
Lycopene is a natural plant extract widely studied for its powerful antioxidant and neuroprotective effects. Emerging evidence suggests that it also possesses potential antidepressant properties. Compared to commonly used clinical antidepressants, lycopene offers higher safety; however, its underlying mechanisms remain unclear.

Objective: To investigate the effects of Astragalus polysaccharide (APS) on skeletal muscle structure and function in D-galactose (D-gal)-induced C57BL/6J mice.
Methods: Eighteen male C57BL/6J mice of specific pathogen-free (SPF) grade, aged 8 weeks, were selected and divided into three groups: a control group (0.9% saline gavage for 16 weeks), a D-gal group (subcutaneous injection of 200 mg/kg D-galactose in the upper neck region, once daily for 8 weeks), and a D-gal + APS group (subcutaneous injection of 200 mg/kg D-galactose, once daily for 8 weeks, with concurrent administration of 100 mg/kg APS by gavage for 8 weeks).
N4-acetylcytidine (ac4C) modification is a crucial RNA modification widely present in eukaryotic RNA. Previous studies have demonstrated that ac4C plays a pivotal role in viral infections. Despite numerous studies highlighting the strong correlation between ac4C modification and cancer progression, its detailed roles and molecular mechanisms in normal physiological processes and cancer progression remain incompletely understood.

Inositol-requiring protein 1α (IRE1α), the most ancient branch among the UPR-related signaling pathways, can possess both serine/threonine kinase and endoribonuclease (RNase) activity and can perform physiological and pathological functions. The IRE1α-signaling pathway plays a critical role in the pathology of various vascular diseases.

Ocular immune-related diseases, represent a spectrum of conditions driven by immune system dysregulation, include but not limit to uveitis, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, Graves' ophthalmopathy, etc. The molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying these diseases are typically dysfunctioned immune responses targeting ocular tissues, resulting in inflammation and tissue damage. Recent advances have further elucidated the pivotal role of different immune responses in the development, progression, as well as management of various ocular immune diseases.

Objective: To identify risk factors for postoperative recurrence in patients with eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (ECRSwNP) and develop a nomogram prediction model for identifying patients at high risk of recurrence.
Methods: A cohort study involving 200 ECRSwNP patients analyzed clinical data for recurrence predictors using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. A nomogram model was developed and validated using Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves.
Background: Unveiling pro-proliferation genes involved in crosstalk between pulmonary artery endothelial cells and pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (PASMCs) are important to improving the therapeutic outcome of pulmonary hypertension (PH). Although growing studies have shown that super-enhancers (SEs) play a pivotal role in pathological and physiological processes, the SE-associated genes in PH and their impact on PASMC proliferation remain largely unexplored.
Methods And Results: We used serotype 5 adenovirus-associated virus to interfere with syndecan-4 and constructed an SU5416 combined with hypoxia-PH model.
Purpose: Ecchymosis is one of the most common complications following total knee arthroplasty (TKA), which is closely related to postoperative bleeding. However, it is still controversial whether anticoagulation treatment should be continued for postoperative ecchymosis patients. We suppose that personalized delayed anticoagulation therapy could be beneficial for decreasing postoperative bleeding.

Objective: To investigate the ability of intra- and peritumoral radiomics based on three-phase computed tomography (CT) to distinguish between malignant and benign parotid tumors.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of data from 374 patients with parotid gland tumors, all confirmed by histopathology. A total of 321 patients from Center 1 (January 2014 to January 2023) were randomly divided into the training set and internal testing set at a ratio of 7:3, whereas 53 patients from Center 2 (January 2020 to June 2022) constituted the external testing set.

Background And Aims: Nurse interns may be at a similar or higher risk than registered nurses. The key elements and mechanisms involved in the effects of safety climate on safety performance are not well understood. This study explores the relationship between the perceived hospital safety climate and compliance with occupational safety practices among nurse interns.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFerroptosis is a predominant contributor to graft kidney ischemia‒reperfusion injury (IRI), resulting in delayed graft function (DGF). However, much less is known about the early predicting biomarkers and therapeutic targets of DGF, especially aiming at ferroptosis. Here, we propose a precise predicting model for DGF, relying on the Akirin1 level in extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from recipient urine 48 h after kidney transplant.

Bovine serum albumin-stabilized Au nanoclusters (BSA-Au NCs) have emerged as promising contenders for imaging agents and highly sensitive fluorescence sensors due to their biocompatibility and strong photoluminescence. Optimizing the synthesis conditions of BSA-Au NCs is crucial for enhancing fluorescence imaging and other nanocluster applications. In this study, for the first time, we systematically investigated the effects of BSA concentration and Au on both particle size and optical characteristics of BSA-Au NCs.

Key Clinical Message: Patients with transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis (ATTR-CM) commonly present with dyspnea, fatigue, and edema. In our case, the main presentation was exertional angina, which was atypical in patients with ATTR-CM and should be paid more attention to.
Abstract: A 54-year-old woman was admitted with a complaint of exertional chest pain, and she had a history of hypertension.
Autoimmune uveitis (AU) is a kind of immune-mediated disease resulting in irreversible ocular damage and even permanent vision loss. However, the precise mechanism underlying dynamic immune changes contributing to disease initiation and progression of AU remains unclear. Here, we induced an experimental AU (EAU) model with IRBP and found that day[D]14 was the inflammatory summit with remarking clinical and histopathological manifestations and the activation of retinal microglia exhibited a time-dependent pattern in the EAU course.

Colorectal cancer cells are highly heterogeneous and exhibit various drug resistances, making personalized treatment necessary. This typically involves a combination of different treatment modalities such as surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy to increase patient survival. Inspired by this, synergistic therapy, which combines multiple modalities into a single nanotherapeutic drug, shows promise in treating cancer.

The endometrium is a unique human tissue with an extraordinary ability to undergo a hormone-regulated cycle encompassing shedding, bleeding, scarless repair, and regeneration throughout the female reproductive cycle. The cyclical repair and regeneration of the endometrium manifest as changes in endometrial epithelialization, glandular regeneration, and vascularization. The mechanisms encompass inflammation, coagulation, and fibrinolytic system balance.
