Case report: Efgartigimod is a novel therapeutic option for ocular myasthenia gravis: a report of 2 cases.

Introduction: Efgartigimod has been approved for the treatment of acetylcholine receptor antibodies-positive generalized myasthenia gravis (AChR-Ab+gMG), but its efficacy in patients with ocular myasthenia gravis (OMG) is not known.

Case Presentation: We describe 2 cases of patients with AChR-Ab+ OMG who showed unfavorable responses to corticosteroids and tacrolimus. Within 2 weeks of initiating efgartigimod, both patients showed rapid improvement and minimal symptom expression was achieved in weeks 3 to 4, which was maintained up to week 12.

Background: Lower-grade glioma (LGG) exhibits significant heterogeneity in clinical outcomes, and current prognostic markers have limited predictive value. Despite the growing recognition of histone modifications in tumor progression, their role in LGG remains poorly understood. This study aimed to develop a histone modification-based risk signature and investigate its relationship with drug sensitivity to guide personalized treatment strategies.

Oxidative stress and dysregulated long noncoding RNAs in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive age-related neurodegenerative disease whose annual incidence is increasing as populations continue to age. Although its pathogenesis has not been fully elucidated, oxidative stress has been shown to play an important role in promoting the occurrence and development of the disease. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs), which are more than 200 nucleotides in length, are also involved in the pathogenesis of PD at the transcriptional level via epigenetic regulation, or at the post-transcriptional level by participating in physiological processes, including aggregation of the α-synuclein, mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, calcium stabilization, and neuroinflammation.

While many clinical studies have demonstrated that EGCG is associated with positive effects on various health parameters, including metabolic biomarkers, waist circumference, and body weight when consumed by individuals affected by obesity and NAFLD, there are also some reports suggesting that it may entail some degree of hepatotoxicity.

Background: Self-management is a key factor determining recovery outcomes in home-based cardiac rehabilitation. However, the impact of individual differences on self-management in patients with coronary heart disease is particularly significant, and standardised approaches often fail to fully meet the needs of this heterogeneous group.

Objective: This study aimed to explore the heterogeneity of self-management among patients with coronary heart disease undergoing home-based cardiac rehabilitation and construct patient personas to address the unique challenges and needs of diverse patient groups.

Electron Microscopy Reveals Inhomogeneous Adsorption of Iodine and Concurrent Defect Formation in a Metal-Organic Framework.

Adsorption behaviors are typically examined through adsorption isotherms, which measure the average adsorption amount as a function of partial pressure or time. However, this method is incapable of identifying inhomogeneities across the adsorbent, which may occur in the presence of strong intermolecular interactions of the adsorbate. In this study, we visualize the adsorption of molecular iodine (I) in the metal-organic framework material MFM-300(Sc) using high-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM).

Introduction: Social security, as a core component of the national welfare system, has consistently played a crucial role in ensuring the basic livelihood of citizens and promoting social equity and justice. Against this backdrop, this study explores the association between social security satisfaction and acceptance of vulnerable groups.

Methods: This study involved 9923 participants.

Prevalence of malnutrition among adult inpatients in China: a nationwide cross-sectional study.

Malnutrition substantially contributes to adverse clinical outcomes. However, no national survey has been conducted to characterize its epidemiology in hospital settings in China. We conducted the China Nutrition Fundamental Data 2020 project among a multistage stratified cluster sample of adult inpatients from 291 study sites across 30 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities (except for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan Province, and the Xizang Autonomous Region, please see MATERIALS AND METHODS for details of the causes) of China to generate reliable data on the prevalence of malnutrition and explore the associated risk factors.

Clinical study of colorViz fusion image vascular grading based on multi-phase CTA reconstruction in acute ischemic stroke.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic value of ColorViz fused images from multi-phase computed tomography angiography (mCTA) using GE Healthcare's FastStroke software for newly diagnosed cerebral infarctions in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS).

Methods: A total of 106 AIS patients with unilateral anterior circulation occlusion were prospectively enrolled. All patients underwent mCTA scans during the arterial peak phase, venous peak phase, and venous late phase.

The serious dysfunction of second signals due to the high expression of PD-L1 on APCs in the tumor body results in the inefficiency of tumor vaccines.

Current in vitro models for gastric cancer research, such as 2D cell cultures and organoid systems, often fail to replicate the complex extracellular matrix (ECM) found in vivo. For the first time, this study utilizes a gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) hydrogel, a biomimetic ECM-like material, in 3D bioprinting to construct a physiologically relevant gastric cancer model. GelMA's tunable mechanical properties allow for the precise manipulation of cellular behavior within physiological ranges.

Chinese guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatoid arthritis: 2024 update.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease with destructive arthritis as its main clinical manifestation, which is a major cause of disability. It is very important to formulate and update a guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of RA that adhere to international guideline development standards and can be applied to clinical practice in China. This guideline is endorsed and developed by the National Clinical Research Center for Dermatologic and Immunologic Diseases, collaborated with Rheumatologists Branch of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, Rheumatology Rehabilitation Branch of Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, Rheumatology Branch of Chinese Research Hospital Association, and Rheumatology Branch of Beijing Association of Holistic Integrative Medicine, based on grading of recommendations assessment, development and evaluation (GRADE) and reporting items for practice guidelines in healthcare (RIGHT).

Triiodothyronine activates THRβ to promote PGC1α expression alleviating PQ-induced pulmonary fibrosis.

Thyroid hormone (TH) and it most active form triiodothyronine (T3) are crucial in promoting mitochondrial biogenesis and maintaining cellular homeostasis during the stress response, but their role in paraquat (PQ)-induced pulmonary fibrosis isunclear. The aim of this study was to examine whether there was a deficiency of TH in mouse lung tissue after PQ administration, and to explore the effect of T3, and potential mechanisms of action, in alleviation of PQ-induced pulmonary fibrosis. We found that the activity and expression of iodothyronine deiodinase 2 (DIO2), an enzyme that activates TH, were higher in the lungs of patients with pulmonary fibrosis than in controls.

Risk Factors Influencing Cognitive Function in Elderly Patients With Late-Life Depression: A Scoping Review.

Background: In recent years, cognitive impairment has emerged as a pivotal symptom in elderly patients with depression, exerting a substantial impact on the course and prognosis of diseases. Moreover, it persists even following remission from depression during the rehabilitation period. However, there remains an incomplete understanding of the relevant influencing factors for cognitive impairment in elderly depressed patients, which seriously impedes the development of risk prediction models and the subsequent research on precision intervention programs.

Background: Self-management is regarded as a crucial factor influencing the effectiveness of home-based cardiac rehabilitation for patients with coronary heart disease. In nursing practice, nurses employ a variety of strategies to enhance self-management of patients. However, there exists a disparity in nurses' perceptions and practical experiences with these strategies.

The mediating effect of job burnout on the relationship between practice environment and workplace deviance behavior of nurses in China: a cross-sectional study.

Background: Faced with a shortage of nurses in China, the factors affecting the stability of the nursing workforce require urgent attention. The workplace deviance behavior of nurses is considered an important behavior in clinical practice, which will bring negative effects and affect the development of nurse team. However, no research has been done to examine the associations among workplace deviance behavior of nurses, practice environment and job burnout.

Glecirasib in KRAS-mutated nonsmall-cell lung cancer: a phase 2b trial.

Glecirasib (JAB-21822) is a new covalent oral KRAS-G12C inhibitor. This multicenter, single-arm phase 2b study assessed the efficacy and safety of glecirasib administered orally at 800 mg daily in patients with locally advanced or metastatic KRAS-mutated nonsmall-cell lung cancer. The primary endpoint was the objective response rate (ORR) assessed by an independent review committee (IRC).

The management and treatment of tumor complications pose continuous challenges due to the inherent complexity. However, the advent of drug delivery systems (DDSs) brings promising opportunities to address the tumor complications using innovative technological approaches. This review focuses on common oncological complications, including cancer thrombosis, malignant serous effusion, tumor-associated infections, cancer pain, and treatment-related complications.

Targeting HSP90AA1 to overcome multiple drug resistance in breast cancer using magnetic nanoparticles loaded with salicylic acid.

Multiple drug resistance (MDR) remains a major obstacle in effective breast cancer chemotherapy. This study explores the role of HSP90AA1 in driving MDR and evaluates the potential of magnetic nanoparticles (FeO@SA) loaded with salicylic acid (SA) to counteract drug resistance. A comprehensive screening of 200 SA-related target genes identified nine core genes, including HSP90AA1.

Gut microbiota changes are associated with abnormal metabolism activity in children and adolescents with obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a chronic and disabling psychiatric disorder characterized by recurrent intrusive thoughts or repetitive behaviors. We sought to better understand the structure of gut microbiota in first visit registration, treatment-naive children and adolescents with OCD, and the relationship between gut microbiota and fecal metabolites. Thus we studied the gut microbial population using 16 S rRNA sequencing in 49 children (8-17 years of age) with OCD, 42 healthy controls (HCs).

Intravenous liposomal irinotecan in metastatic triple-negative breast cancer after ≥ 2 prior lines of chemotherapy: a phase Ib study.
