Methods: In this prospective, cross-over self-controlled study, a single dose of SC cefazolin was administered to 15 stable inpatients established on IV cefazolin as part of their management plan.

The aim of this study is to quantify the radiation exposure associated with common radiological investigations performed in assessing patients presenting with non-arthritic hip pain. A retrospective review of our institutional imaging database was performed.

Investigating the effect of cochlear implant usage metrics on cortical auditory-evoked potential responses in adult recipients post-implantation.

Introduction: This study examines the effect of cochlear implant (CI) device usage metrics on post-operative outcomes in unilateral CI recipients. The primary objective is to investigate the relationship between CI usage frequency (average daily CI use) and duration (total years of CI use) on electrically evoked cortical auditory-evoked potential (eCAEP) response peak latency (ms) and amplitude (μV).

Methods: Adult CI users ( = 41) who previously exhibited absent acoustically evoked CAEP responses participated in the study.

Background: Rising incidence of invasive beta-haemolytic streptococcal (iBHS) infections has prompted consideration of vaccination as a preventative strategy for at-risk populations. The benefits of a vaccine targeting Lancefield group A (Streptococcus pyogenes; Strep A) would increase if cross-species immunity against Lancefield groups C/G (Streptococcus dysgalactiae subspecies equisimilis; SDSE) and B (Streptococcus agalactiae; GBS) was demonstrated.

Purpose: In cochlear implantation (CI) surgery, there are a wide variety of intraoperative tests available. However, no clear guide exists on which tests must be performed as the minimum intraoperative testing battery. Toward this end, we studied the usage patterns, recommendations, and attitudes of practitioners toward intraoperative testing.

Extended scope audiology clinic - a review of its outcomes and re-presentation to the ear nose and throat service.

Objective: To evaluate the role of Extended Scope (ES) audiologists in managing adult Ear Nose and Throat (ENT)/Otology waitlists and analyse patient re-presentation rate to the ENT service within 12 months of being discharged from the clinic.

Design: A retrospective cohort study assessing the efficacy of ES audiologists, measuring the discharge rate from ENT waitlists, the rate of escalation to ENT care, and the rate and reasons for any re-presentations to care.

Background: Otitis media (OM) has a high prevalence in childhood, and grommet insertion is the most common surgical treatment for OM. The public health system in Australia faces considerable strains, including high demand for Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialists. We assembled an international panel of clinical experts to develop, refine, and vote upon a set of core consensus statements.

Serological Responses to Vaccine Candidate Antigens Suggests That Is the Predominant Cause of Lower Limb Cellulitis.

Background: A future (Strep A) vaccine will ideally prevent a significant burden of lower limb cellulitis; however, natural immune responses to proposed vaccine antigens following an episode of cellulitis remain uncharacterized.

Methods: We enrolled 63 patients with cellulitis and 26 with invasive beta hemolytic streptococci infection, using a multiplexed assay to measure immunoglobulin G against Strep A vaccine candidate antigens, including: streptolysin O (SLO), deoxyribonuclease B (DNB), group A carbohydrate (GAC), C5a peptidase (ScpA), cell envelope proteinase (SpyCEP), and adhesion and division protein (SpyAD). Responses in the invasive cohort were used to predict the infecting etiology in the cellulitis cohort.

This paper reports on a study with consumers to explore their experiences with comprehensive-prepared graduate nurses and the nursing care that they provide in acute mental health settings.

Objective: To compare pregnancy outcomes among women with a normal oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) before 20 weeks' gestation (early) and at 24-28 weeks' gestation (late) (no gestational diabetes mellitus, or No-GDM), those with early GDM randomized to observation with a subsequent normal OGTT (GDM-Regression), and those with GDM on both occasions (GDM-Maintained).

Research Design And Methods: Women at <20 weeks' gestation with GDM risk factors who were recruited for a randomized controlled early GDM treatment trial were included. Women with treated early GDM and late GDM (according to the World Health Organization's 2013 criteria) were excluded from this analysis.

Introduction: People with aphasia following stroke experience disproportionally poor outcomes, yet there is no comprehensive approach to measuring the quality of aphasia services. The Meaningful Evaluation of Aphasia SeRvicES (MEASuRES) minimum dataset was developed in partnership with people with lived experience of aphasia, clinicians and researchers to address this gap. It comprises sociodemographic characteristics, quality indicators, treatment descriptors and outcome measurement instruments.

Does inspiratory muscle training improve lung function and quality of life in people with inclusion body myositis? A pilot study.

Inclusion body myositis is the most common acquired myositis in adults, predominantly weakening forearm flexor and knee extensor muscles. Subclinical respiratory muscle weakness has recently been recognised in people with inclusion body myositis, increasing their risk of respiratory complications. Inspiratory muscle training, a technique which demonstrates efficacy and safety in improving respiratory function in people with neuromuscular disorders, has never been explored in those with inclusion body myositis.

Patients with relapsed or refractory metastatic cancer unresponsive to standard therapies have motivated nuclear physicians to develop innovative radioligands, precisely targeted to tumor molecular receptors, for effective treatment of specific advanced malignancies. Individual practitioners in departments of nuclear medicine across the world have performed first-in-human studies on compassionate patient usage N-of-One protocols. These physician-sponsored studies then evolved into early-phase clinical trials and obtained real-world data to demonstrate real-world evidence of effectiveness in prolonging survival and enhancing quality of life of many so-called "End-Stage" cancer patients.

Principles for management of hip fracture for older adults taking direct oral anticoagulants: an international consensus statement.

Hip fracture is a common serious injury among older adults, yet the management of hip fractures for patients taking direct oral anticoagulants remains inconsistent worldwide. Drawing from a synthesis of available evidence and expert opinion, best practice approaches for managing patients with a hip fracture and who are taking direct oral anticoagulants pre-operatively were considered by a working group of the Fragility Fracture Network Hip Fracture Audit Special Interest Group. The literature and related clinical guidelines were reviewed and a two-round modified Delphi study was conducted with a panel of experts from 16 countries and involved seven clinical specialities.

Aims: Psychological interventions have had modest effects on HbA1c in adults with Type 1 diabetes (T1D). We evaluated a novel behaviour therapy (BT) group program aiming to improve diabetes self-care and reduce HbA1c and distress. Core features were the application of a functional-analytic model, behavioural self-management training, and personally selected T1D self-care behaviours as treatment targets.
