Background: Rising number of children with complex medical conditions necessitate regular healthcare quality evaluation to achieve optimal outcomes. To address the need for a periodic and quick assessment of quality of care in serious childhood illnesses, we developed a short version of previously validated 45-item PaRental Experience with care for Children with serIOUS illnesses (PRECIOUS) measure.

Methodology: PRECIOUS was administered by parents of children living with serious illnesses at two time-points (baseline and two weeks) in an online survey.

Temperature is a critical environmental factor affecting nearly all plant processes, including growth, development, and yield. Yet, despite decades of research, we lack the ability to predict plant performance at different temperatures, limiting the development of climate-resilient crops. Further, there is a pressing need to bridge the gap between the prediction of physiological and molecular traits to improve our understanding and manipulation of plant temperature responses.

Environmental Safety Assessments (ESA) are mandatory for several regulatory purposes and are an important component of stewardship/sustainability initiatives. Fish testing is used for assessing chemical toxicity and bioaccumulation potential; amphibians are included in some jurisdictions and their use is increasing to assess endocrine disruption. Alternative methods are becoming more available, covering the principles of the 3Rs (i.

Electronic address:

Industrialization adversely affects the gut microbiome and predisposes individuals to chronic non-communicable diseases. We tested a microbiome restoration strategy comprising a diet that recapitulated key characteristics of non-industrialized dietary patterns (restore diet) and a bacterium rarely found in industrialized microbiomes (Limosilactobacillus reuteri) in a randomized controlled feeding trial in healthy Canadian adults. The restore diet, despite reducing gut microbiome diversity, enhanced the persistence of L.

Future climate projections are expected to have a substantial impact on boreal lake circulation regimes. Understanding lake sensitivity to warmer climates is therefore critical for mitigating potential ecological and societal impacts. The Holocene Thermal Maximum (HTM; ca 7-5 ka BP) provides a valuable analogue to investigate lake responses to warmer climates devoid of major anthropogenic influences.

Study Objectives: To assess the impact of the non-respiratory arousal burden at baseline polysomnography (PSG) on residual daytime sleepiness in positive airway pressure (PAP)-treated obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Methods: We included OSA patients from the European Sleep Apnea Database registry with available arousal data who had at least 2 treatment follow-up visits. The primary outcome was the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) score under PAP.

Significant Impact of a Daytime Halogen Oxidant on Coastal Air Quality.

Environ Sci Technol

January 2025

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong SAR 999077, China.

Chlorine radicals (Cl) are highly reactive and affect the fate of air pollutants. Several field studies in China have revealed elevated levels of daytime molecular chlorine (Cl), which, upon photolysis, release substantial amounts of Cl but are poorly represented in current chemical transport models. Here, we implemented a parametrization for the formation of daytime Cl through the photodissociation of particulate nitrate in acidic environments into a regional model and assessed its impact on coastal air quality during autumn in South China.

The aim of the study was to find whether certain meaningful moments in the learning process are noticeable through features of voice and how acoustic voice analyses can be utilized in learning research. The material consisted of recordings of nine university students as they were completing tasks concerning direct electric circuits as part of their course of teacher education in physics. Prosodic features of voice-fundamental frequency (F0), sound pressure level (SPL), acoustic voice quality measured by LTAS, and pausing-were investigated.

Background: Patients with end-stage kidney disease often prefer home-based dialysis due to higher self-efficacy, which relates to improved medical treatment adherence. Kidney transplantation (KT) success depends on adhering to immunosuppressive medication post-transplant.

Objectives: To investigate whether adherence post-kidney transplantation (KT) and patients' attitudes toward immunosuppression were influenced by their prior dialysis type modality.

The Nordic countries are among the most digitally advanced societies in the world. Past research suggests that both social support offline and interaction online are linked to adolescent psychological adjustment. However, less is known regarding the complex implications of distinctive sources of social support offline and online interaction for a broader range of indices of adolescent psychosocial well-being, including its contemporary forms such as social media addiction.

Background: Lichtenstein hernia repair is a common surgical procedure. Previously, combined rectus sheath (RS) and transversus abdominis plane (TAP) blocks have been shown to be beneficial in laparoscopic inguinal hernia surgery. Our hypothesis is that combining the two blocks will also be beneficial in open Lichtenstein hernioplasty day-case procedures.

Macrophage metabolism is closely linked to their phenotype and function, which is why there is growing interest in studying the metabolic reprogramming of macrophages. Bioactive glass (BG) S53P4 is a bioactive material used especially in bone applications. Additionally, BG S53P4 has been shown to affect macrophages, but the mechanisms through which the possible immunomodulatory effects are conveyed remain unclear.

Purpose: Preoperative virtual planning and osteosynthesis with patient-specific implants (PSIs) have become a quotidian approach to many maxillofacial elective surgery setups. When a process is well-organized, a similar approach can be harnessed to serve the needs of exact primary reconstructions, especially in midfacial trauma cases. PSI osteosynthesis of the mandible is, however, more challenging because a mirror technique of the facial sides is often unreliable due to inherent lack of symmetry, and movement of the mandible increases the risk of loosening of the osteosynthesis.
