The data are considered as a continuous fuzzy point cloud, instead of a discrete point cloud. Shape fitting is commonly performed by minimizing the discrete Euclidean distance; however, we propose the novel approach of using the expected Mahalanobis distance.

Given the strong effect of forest management on the understorey microenvironment and often long-term effects of forest management actions, it seems likely that understorey herbs may have locally adapted to the practiced management regime and induced environmental variation. We investigated the response of and to forest management using a transplant experiment along a silvicultural management intensity gradient.

In 2024, circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) was detected in wastewater samples in Finland, Germany, Poland, Spain and the United Kingdom (UK). All strains were genetically linked, but sequence analysis showed high genetic diversity among the strains identified within individual wastewater sites and countries and an unexpected high genetic proximity among isolates from different countries. Taken together these results, with sequential samples having tested positive in various sites, a broader geographic distribution beyond positive sampling sites must be considered.

Advancing DNA Structural Analysis: A SERS Approach Free from Citrate Interference Combined with Machine Learning.

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) has become an indispensable tool for biomolecular analysis, yet the detection of DNA signals remains hindered by spectral interference from citrate ions, which overlap with key DNA features. This study introduces an innovative, ultrasensitive SERS platform utilizing thiol-modified silver nanoparticles (Ag@SDCNPs) that overcomes this challenge by eliminating citrate interference. This platform enables direct, interference-free detection and structural characterization of a wide range of DNA conformations, including single-stranded DNA (ssDNA), double-stranded DNA (dsDNA), i-motif, hairpin, G-quadruplex, and triple-stranded DNA (tsDNA).

Molecular characterization of exopolysaccharide from Periweissella beninensis LMG 25373 and technological properties in plant-based food production.

Periweissella beninensis LMG 25373, belonging to the recently established Periweissella genus, exhibits unique motility and high adhesion capabilities, indicating significant probiotic potential, including resilience under simulated gastrointestinal conditions. This study demonstrates for the first time that P. beninensis LMG 25373^T produces a dextran-type exopolysaccharide (EPS) with a distinctive high degree of branching (approximately 71 % of α-(1 → 6)-linkages and 29 % α-(1 → 3)-linkages).

We report a mother and daughter with neuropathologically confirmed definite Alzheimer disease (AD) and extensive cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA). Copy number analysis identified an increased number of APP copies and genome sequencing (GS) revealed the underlying complex genomic rearrangement (CGR) including a triplication of APP with two unique breakpoint junctions (BPJs).

To assess the utility of IVIM parameters in evaluating uterine fibroid blood flow compared to dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) derived blood flow. Sixteen premenopausal women with uterine fibroids were enrolled in this prospective study. Pelvic MRI scans were obtained for each subject, both with and without continuous intravenous infusion of oxytocin, known to decrease significantly uterine fibroid blood flow, to assess the changes in blood flow of uterine fibroids.
