Eugen Bogdan Aburel was pioneer of the fertility sparing surgery in early cervical cancer in young women desiring to preserve their childbearing potential. He graduated in Romania but started specializing in obstetrics and gynecology in Paris, where he had the chance to work with the most prominent professors of the time and do research at Sorbonne, the most famous French higher education institution. Most of his discoveries date from the time he spent in Paris hospitals, proving that a good medical school can generate remarkable physicians.

Methods: This prospective study included a group of 106 pregnant women, of which 76 patients constituted the PMD group: preeclampsia (PE) and small for gestational age (SGA), and 30 pregnant women constituted the control group. IPVA and UA Doppler evaluation was performed in 2 pregnancy periods: 20.

Coxarthrosis, or hip osteoarthritis (OA), is one of the main causes of hip pain, which can affect patients of all ages, being one of the most common reasons for patients presenting to the specialized outpatient clinic. The objective of our research was to determine the number of patients with coxarthrosis who presented to the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology within the Emergency County Hospital of Drobeta Turnu Severin, between 2017-2019, the sex, age, social environment of the patients. All patients underwent a thorough clinical examination to determine the risk factors, the favouring factors and their correlation with the paraclinical data obtained through imaging investigation (pelvis X-ray, computer tomography and nuclear magnetic resonance).

Gastric cancer is a significant health concern worldwide, and lymphadenectomy plays a crucial role in its treatment. However, there is ongoing debate regarding the optimal approach-D1 or D2 lymphadenectomy. This paper aims to synthesize the available evidence by conducting a comprehensive literature review and comparing the advantages and disadvantages of both techniques.

The year 2020 will likely be remembered as the year dominated by COVID-19, or coronavirus disease. The emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), responsible for this pandemic, can be traced back to late 2019 in China. The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the tuberculosis (TB) care system, reducing TB testing and reporting.

Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is produced by the placenta and its roles have been studied for over a century, being the first known pregnancy-related protein. Although its main role is to stimulate the production of progesterone by corpus luteal cells, hCG does not represent just one biologically active molecule, but a group of at least five variants, produced by different cells and each with different functions. The hyperglycosylated variant of hCG (H-hCG) plays a key role in trophoblast invasion, placental development and fetal growth.

The increasing prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) requires non-invasive and precise techniques for evaluating the predisposing risk factors such as visceral adipose tissue (VAT) and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT). According to PRISMA, we developed a systematic review and searched after "visceral adipose tissue AND gestational diabetes" and identified 221 articles on the MEDLINE and Word of Science databases. After assessing them for inclusion criteria and two researchers screened them, 11 relevant articles were included.

Fetal growth restriction is an important part of monitoring a pregnancy. Because guidelines or diagnostic criteria for either minor or major thrombophilia are scarce, this systematic review aims to summarize the present knowledge in the field. We performed the CRD42022376006 protocol in Prospero with a systematic literature search in PubMed and Web of Science databases and included original full-text articles (randomized control trials and clinical trials) from the last 10 years, published in English, and with the "thrombophilia AND (pregnancy OR diagnostic criteria) AND fetal growth restriction" criteria.

Umbilical cord abnormalities are not rare, and are often associated with structural or chromosomal abnormalities, fetal intrauterine growth restriction, and poor pregnancy outcomes; the latter can be a result of prematurity, placentation deficiency or, implicitly, an increased index of cesarean delivery due to the presence of fetal distress, higher admission to neonatal intensive care, and increased prenatal mortality rates. Even if the incidence of velamentous insertion, vasa praevia and umbilical knots is low, these pathologies increase the fetal morbidity and mortality prenatally and intrapartum. There is a vast heterogeneity among societies' guidelines regarding the umbilical cord examination.

True umbilical knot (TUK), although not a commonly encountered pathology, hasan important psychological burden on the mother and obstetrician. It has an extremely low prenatal ultrasound diagnosis rate, despite its adverse perinatal outcomes when unknown. We conducted a retrospective observational analytical study on a 7-year period (2015-2021), including all pregnancies overseen by a single fetal-maternal medicine specialist for monitoring and delivery.

Facial dysostoses are clinically and genetically heterogeneous conditions characterized by congenital craniofacial anomalies which result from abnormal development of the first two pharyngeal arches and their derivatives during embryogenesis. Mandibulofacial dysostosis Guion-Almeida type (MFDGA) is a rare and relatively new syndrome described in the literature, first identified by Guion-Almeida in 2000 and 2006. Another 108 cases have been documented after that.

The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has had a profound impact on antenatal care, forcing authorities to consider some medical services unessential in the pursuit of avoiding the valid risk of patient contamination. The oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) has been in some cases overlooked for screening in pregnancy, with potential detrimental consequences in terms of not diagnosing and treating gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). The number of tests has dropped by 35% in 2020 in our hospital.

Background/aim: Pancreatic cancer represents the most lethal abdominal malignancy, the only chance for achieving an improvement in terms of survival being represented by radical surgery. Although it has been considered that venous invasion represents a contraindication for resection, recently it has been demonstrated that in regards to overall survival after radical resection, it is similar to the one reported after standard pancreatoduodenectomy.
Case Report: A 53-year-old patient with no significant medical past was diagnosed with a borderline resectable pancreatic adenocarcinoma invading the superior mesenteric vein.
