Several studies have reported the use of dexmedetomidine (DEX) plus opioids for flexible bronchoscopy in both adults and children. To determine whether DEX plus sufentanil (SF) is safe for children, 142 children undergoing flexible bronchoscopy were assigned to one of three groups, each of which received the same SF loading dose and similar DEX and SF maintenance doses, but different loading doses of DEX: DS1 (DEX 0.5 μg·kg-1), DS2 (DEX 1.

Purpose: Soluble cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen 4 (sCTLA-4), one of the isoforms of CTLA-4, was discovered to be critical in downregulating the negative signal of CTLA-4 in T-cell responses. Contrary to the classical immunosuppressive effect of CTLA-4, its immunoregulatory function might be complicated. However, the clinical significance of sCTLA-4 to immune regulation and the variation in cancer therapy have not been elucidated.

Increasing evidence indicate that the Krüppel-like factor KLF15, a member of Cys2/His2 zinc-finger DNA-binding proteins, attenuates cardiac hypertrophy. However, the role of KLF15 in cardiovascular system is largely unknown and the exact molecular mechanism of its protective function is not fully elucidated. In the present study, we established a mouse model of cardiac hypertrophy and found that KLF15 expression was down-regulated in hypertrophic hearts.

5-Aminolevulinic acid-mediated photodynamic therapy (ALA‑PDT) is an effective treatment option for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, the precancerous lesion of cervical cancer, and early cervical cancer, particularly for young or nulliparous women who want to remain fertile. A previous report described the involvement of histone deacetylases (HDAC) during ALA‑PDT mediated apoptosis in the cerebral cortex of a mouse model. Retinoblastoma‑associated protein 48 (RbAp48), a highly abundant component of HDACs, is a critical mediator that controls the transforming activity of human papillomavirus 16 in cervical cancer cells.

Approximately 60% of patients experience moderate-to-severe pain after neurosurgery, which primarily occurs in the first 24-72 h. Despite this, improved postoperative analgesia solutions after neurosurgery have not yet been devised. This retrospective study was conducted to evaluate the effect of intra- and post-operative infusions of dexmedetomidine (DEX) plus sufentanil on the quality of postoperative analgesia in patients undergoing neurosurgery.

Use of deep brain stimulation for major affective disorders.

Exp Ther Med

October 2016

Department of Neurosurgery, The Fifth People's Hospital of Jinan, Jinan, Shandong 250021, P.R. China.

The multifactorial etiology of major affective disorders, such as major depression and bipolar disorder, poses a challenge for identification of effective treatments. In a substantial number of patients, psychopharmacologic treatment does not lead to effective continuous symptom relief. The use of deep brain stimulation (DBS) for treatment-resistant patients is an investigational approach that has recently produced promising results.

RLIP76 is an anti-apoptotic transporter, participating in the multi-specific drug transport and resistance. In the absence of chemotherapy drugs, the knockout or inhibition of RLIP76 leads to pronounced tumor regression. RLIP76 transports anthracycline and vinca alkaloid drugs and mediates the resistance to these drugs.

The aim of the present study was to identify key genes and pathways in glioblastoma-associated stromal cells (GASCs) using bioinformatics. The expression profile of microarray GSE24100 was obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus database, which included the expression profile of 4 GASC samples and 3 control stromal cell samples. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified using limma software in R language, and Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis of DEGs were performed using the Database for Annotation, Visualization and Integrated Discovery software.

The Heart failure (HF) is considered as the end-stage of various heart disease and associated with high mortality globally. Progressive loss of cardiac myocytes via apoptosis is considered as the most important factor for HF pathology. In this study, we demonstrated that Safflower extract was able to inhibitthe apoptosis inducted by Angiotensin II (AngII) in a ratmyocardium derived cell line H9C2.

The regeneration of functional skin remains elusive, due to poor engraftment, deficient vascularization, and excessive scar formation. Aiming to overcome these issues, the present study proposed the combination of a three-dimensional graphene foam (GF) scaffold loaded with bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to improve skin wound healing. The GFs demonstrated good biocompatibility and promoted the growth and proliferation of MSCs.

Efficacy and safety of acetylcysteine in "non-acetaminophen" acute liver failure: A meta-analysis of prospective clinical trials.

Clin Res Hepatol Gastroenterol

October 2015

Department of Gastroenterology, Jinan Military General Hospital, 25, Shifan Road, Jinan, Shandong, 250031, China. Electronic address:

Background: Acute liver failure (ALF) is a rare but highly mortal condition without liver transplantation (LT). N-acetylcysteine (NAC), a glutathione precursor that detoxifies the reactive metabolite of acetaminophen and replenishes hepatic glutathione stores, is a highly effective drug for the prevention of ALF caused by acetaminophen. However, therapeutic use of NAC in non-acetaminophen-induced ALF (NAI-ALF) including alcohol intoxication, hepatitis virus infection, or drug and toxin-related hepatotoxicity is still inconclusive.
