Temporal dynamics changes in the vaginal fluid microbiome: Implications for body fluid identification and estimating time since deposition (TsD) for forensics.

Forensic Sci Int

November 2024

Guangzhou Key Laboratory of Forensic Multi-Omics for Precision Identification, School of Forensic Medicine, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, Guangdong 510515, China. Electronic address:

Vaginal fluid analysis plays a crucial role in sexual assault investigations. However, vaginal fluid found at crime scenes is usually subject to a certain duration of exposure. This study thus aimed to assess the influence of different durations of exposure to indoor environment on the vaginal microbiota.

Objective: To observe the effect of acupuncture exercise therapy synchronizing isokinetic muscle strength training on the motor function, stability and proprioception of knee joint, as well as the anxiety emotion in patients after meniscectomy under arthroscopy.

Methods: A total of 70 patients after meniscectomy under arthroscopy were randomized into an observation group (35 cases, 2 cases were eliminated, 2 cases dropped off) and a control group (35 cases, 2 cases were eliminated, 1 case dropped off). Acupuncture was applied at Chize (LU 5), Neixiyan (EX-LE 4), Dubi (ST 35),Yanglingquan (GB 34), etc.

Background: Bloodstream infection (BSI) caused by carbapenem resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP), especially in elderly patients, results in higher morbidity and mortality. The purpose of this study was to assess risk factors associated with CRKP BSI and short-term mortality among elderly patients in China.

Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, we enrolled 252 inpatients aged ≥ 65 years with BSI caused by KP from January 2011 to December 2020 in China.

Background: The efficacy of interlimb-coordinated training on gait and upper limb functional improvement remains unclear. The latest published randomized controlled trials have supported the potential benefits of interlimb-coordinated training to enhance gait function. Upper limb functional recovery may also benefit from interlimb-coordinated training since most everyday activities require the coordinated use of both hands to complete a task.

Pharmacological Mechanisms Underlying the Hepatoprotective Effects of on Hepatocellular Carcinoma.

Evid Based Complement Alternat Med

July 2021

Affiliated Foshan Maternity & Child Healthcare Hospital, Southern Medical University, Foshan 528000, China.

Background: The number of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cases worldwide has increased significantly. As a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) with a long history, (EH) has been widely used in HCC patients in China, but its hepatoprotective mechanism is still unclear.

Methods: In this study, we applied a network pharmacology-based strategy and experimental verification to systematically unravel the underlying mechanisms of EH against HCC.

This study aimed to evaluate the anti-tumor effect of a new generation of protease inhibitor, oprozomib (OPZ), used alone and in combination with cisplatin, also called CDDP, on cervical cancer. Five different types of cervical cancer cell lines - HeLa, Caski, HeLa-CDDP, C33a, and SiHa - and one nontransformed cervical cell line - HaCaT -were treated with OPZ alone or in combination with cisplatin. The inhibitory effects of OPZ and cisplatin on the proliferation of cervical cancer cells were then analyzed using cytotoxicity tests, flow cytometry, and Western blotting.

Rationale: Chromosome karyotype analysis and SRY (sex determined region of Y chromosome) gene detection are routines for the diagnosis of growth hormone deficiency (GHD), but further whole exome gene sequencing occasionally leads to subversive results and unexpected conclusions.

Patient Concerns: We report a single case of a 7-year-old Chinese boy who had stunted growth since he was 1 year old. He was short in height (height Standard Deviation Score (SDS) was less than 2.

Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) is an important cellular transmembrane receptor and pattern-recognition signaling molecule for pathogens in the immune system. High mobility group box 1 protein (HMGB1) plays an important role in myocardial ischemia (MI) and reperfusion through a TLR4-mediated inflammatory response. T lymphocytes are involved in MI injury; however, the specific mechanisms underlying this role remain unclear.

RNA-binding proteins have been associated with cancer development. The overexpression of a well-known RNA-binding protein, insulin-like growth factor 2 messenger RNA-binding protein 3, has been identified as an indicator of poor prognosis in patients with various types of cancer. Although gastric cancer is a relatively frequent and potentially fatal malignancy, the mechanism by which insulin-like growth factor 2 messenger RNA-binding protein 3 regulates the development of this cancer remains unclear.

Objective To elucidate how high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) exacerbates myocardial damage and infuences CD4, CD8 and Th17 T lymphocytes of spleen through Toll like receptor 4 (TLR4) in ischemia myocardial injury. Methods 30 wild-type (WT) and 30 TLR4 knockout (TLR4) C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into the control group, isoproterenol induced ischemia myocardial damage group (ISO) and ISO-rHMGB1 group. The cardiac function of mice was evaluated by echocardiography, and the pathological changes of myocardial tissue were observed by HE staining and Sirius red staining.

High-mobility group box-1 (HMGB1) is a nuclear protein released by necrotic cells as a result of its interactions with several receptors, including the receptor for advanced glycation end-products (RAGE) and members of the toll-like receptor family. HMGB1 has been implicated in autoimmune diseases and hepatic and intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury; however, its role in myocardial ischemia-induced injury remains unclear. In this study, isoproterenol (ISO) was used to establish a myocardial ischemia mouse model.

A Suitable Option for Gustilo and Anderson Grade III Injury.

Med Sci Monit

August 2016

Department of Hand and Foot Plastic Surgery, The First People's Hospital of Foshan, Foshan, Guangdong, China (mainland).

BACKGROUND The management of Gustilo and Anderson grade III injury remains difficult, particularly due to the incidence of wound infections, delayed fracture union, and traumatic extremity amputation. However, little data is available on delayed skin graft or flap reconstructions of Gustilo grade III injury, especially using new technologies of wound coverage, such as vacuum sealing drainage (VSD) combined with limited internal and/or external fixation. MATERIAL AND METHODS Between June 2008 and May 2013, we performed the VSD technique combined with limited internal and/or external fixation on 38 patients (22 males and 16 females, with a mean age of 36.

Cutaneous pili migrans and creeping eruption caused by parasitic diseases may present as a moving linear lesion in skin. The former, caused by a hair shaft or fragment embedded in the superficial skin or middle dermis, is a rare condition characterized by creeping eruption with a black line observed at the advancing end. In exceptionally rare instance, the hair grows inside the skin and burrows in the uppermost dermis, such a condition has been called "ingrown hair.
