Objectives: To investigate the correlation of serum levels of bridging integrating factor 1 (BIN1) with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and Killip class of the patients.

Methods: We retrospectively collected the data from 94 patients with AMI and 30 healthy individuals for analysis of the correlations of serum BIN1 levels with Killip class, TIMI scores, and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR). We also assessed the diagnostic value of BIN1 combined with NLR for AMI.

Background: Growing evidence indicates a significant correlation between polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and endometrial carcinoma (EC); nevertheless, the fundamental molecular mechanisms involved continue to be unclear.

Methods: Initially, differential analysis, the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression, and support vector machine-recursive feature elimination (SVM-RFE) algorithms were employed to identify candidate genes associated with ferroptosis in PCOS. Subsequently, the TCGA-UCEC data were utilized to pinpoint the core gene.

Spatial transcriptomics in focal cortical dysplasia type IIb.

Acta Neuropathol Commun

November 2024

Department of Neurosurgery, Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, 100053, China.

Focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) type IIb (FCD IIb) is an epileptogenic malformation of the neocortex that is characterized by cortical dyslamination, dysmorphic neurons (DNs) and balloon cells (BCs). Approximately 30-60% of lesions are associated with brain somatic mutations in the mTOR pathway. Herein, we investigated the transcriptional changes around the DNs and BCs regions in freshly frozen brain samples from three patients with FCD IIb by using spatial transcriptomics.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined how different post-filter ionic calcium (Ca) levels (0.25-0.35 mmol/L vs >0.35-0.50 mmol/L) affect the duration of local citrate anticoagulation during continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT).
  • A total of 232 patients were analyzed, with almost 74% in the low calcium group and 26.5% in the high calcium group, showing no significant difference in coagulation events between the two.
  • Results indicated that post-filter [iCa] levels did not impact the extracorporeal life expectancy, suggesting effective anticoagulation can be maintained with a calcium target range of 0.25-0.50 mmol/L.

October 2024

Shanxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Intelligent, Big Data and Digital Neurosurgery, Taiyuan, China.

Background: Leukocyte transendothelial migration-related genes (LTEMGs) play a crucial role in the immune response and have been extensively studied in various pathological conditions, including inflammation, infection, and cancer. In recent years, increasing attention has been given to understanding the biological mechanisms of LTEMGs in the context of tumor progression and metastasis. The potential function of LTEMGs in cancer progression remains unclear.

Radiotherapy is widely regarded as the primary therapeutic modality for nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC). Studies have shown that cancer cells with high resistance to radiation, known as radioresistant cancer cells, may cause residual illness, which in turn might contribute to the occurrence of cancer recurrence and metastasis. It has been shown that cancer stem-like cells (CSCs) exhibit resistance to radiation therapy.
