Objective: This study aimed to develop a dual-energy spectral computed tomography (DESCT) nomogram that incorporated both clinical factors and DESCT parameters for individual preoperative prediction of lymph node metastasis (LNM) in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC).

Material And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 167 pathologically confirmed patients with CRC who underwent enhanced DESCT preoperatively, and these patients were categorized into training ( = 117) and validation cohorts ( = 50). The monochromatic CT value, iodine concentration value (IC), and effective atomic number (Eff-Z) of the primary tumors were measured independently in the arterial phase (AP) and venous phase (VP) by two radiologists.

In December 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic quickly spread throughout China and beyond, posing enormous global challenges. With prompt, vigorous, and coordinated control measures, mainland China contained the spread of the epidemic within two months and halted the epidemic in three months. Aggressive containment strategy, hierarchical management, rational reallocation of resources, efficient contact tracing, and voluntary cooperation of Chinese citizens contributed to the rapid and efficient control of the epidemic, thus promoting the rapid recovery of the Chinese economy.

Detachable string magnetically controlled capsule endoscopy for detecting high-risk varices in compensated advanced chronic liver disease (CHESS1801): A prospective multicenter study.

Background: Gastroesophageal varices is a serious complication of compensated advanced chronic liver disease (cACLD). Primary prophylaxis to reduce the risk of variceal hemorrhage is recommended if high-risk varices (HRV) are detected. We performed this study to compare the accuracy, patients' satisfaction and safety of detection of HRV by detachable string magnetically controlled capsule endoscopy (DS-MCCE) with esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) as the reference.

Primary Synchronous Ipsilateral Renal Fibrosarcoma and Renal Pelvic Carcinoma: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Renal fibrosarcoma is a rare tumor, with only a few cases reported so far, and simultaneous occurrence of ipsilateral renal fibrosarcoma and renal pelvic carcinoma in a patient is extraordinarily rare. A 66-year-old man admitted to our hospital with right renal percutaneous nephrostomy and recurrent fever. And the patient underwent laparoendoscopic nephrectomy and partial ureterectomy for pyonephrotic nonfunctioning kidneys.

Predicting Microsatellite Instability Status in Colorectal Cancer Based on Triphasic Enhanced Computed Tomography Radiomics Signatures: A Multicenter Study.

Background: This study aimed to develop and validate a computed tomography (CT)-based radiomics model to predict microsatellite instability (MSI) status in colorectal cancer patients and to identify the radiomics signature with the most robust and high performance from one of the three phases of triphasic enhanced CT.

Methods: In total, 502 colorectal cancer patients with preoperative contrast-enhanced CT images and available MSI status (441 in the training cohort and 61 in the external validation cohort) were enrolled from two centers in our retrospective study. Radiomics features of the entire primary tumor were extracted from arterial-, delayed-, and venous-phase CT images.

Obesity, which is often caused by adipocyte metabolism dysfunction, is rapidly becoming a serious global health issue. Studies in the literature have shown that camellia oil (Camellia oleifera Abel) exerted potential lipid regulation and other multiple biological activities. Here, we aimed to investigate the effects of camellia oil on obese mice induced by a high-fat diet and to explore gut microbiota alterations after camellia oil intervention.

Simultaneous renal clear cell carcinoma and primary clear cell carcinoma of the liver: A case report.

Rationale: Double primary clear cell carcinomas of the liver (PCCCL) and kidney are extremely rare; moreover, there have been no reported cases of adrenal metastasis from primary clear cell tumors of the liver.

Patient Concerns: A 47-year-old male patient was admitted to our clinic with space-occupying lesions in the left kidney and liver during a regular medical examination.

Diagnoses: The tumors in the kidney and liver were diagnosed as primary clear cell carcinoma by histopathological examination.

Ante- and postmortem tau in autosomal dominant and late-onset Alzheimer's disease.

Antemortem tau positron emission tomography imaging suggests elevated tau pathology in autosomal dominant versus late-onset Alzheimer's disease at equivalent clinical stages, but does not implicate the specific tau pathologies responsible. Here we made stereological measurements of tau neurofibrillary tangles, neuritic plaques, and neuropil threads and found compared to late-onset Alzheimer's disease, autosomal dominant Alzheimer's disease showed even greater tangle and thread burdens. Regional tau burden resembled that observed in tau imaging of a separate cohort at earlier clinical stages.

Such patients cannot tolerate long-time sports rehabilitation owing to dyspnea and fail to achieve the desired therapeutic effect; therefore, increasing nutritional support will be an important strategy for them. The present study applied metabolomics technology to evaluate the correlation between serum concentrations of polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) metabolites, nutritional status, and lung function in patients with COPD to provide a theoretical basis for accurate nutritional support.

Objectives: Sinistral portal hypertension (SPH) is an uncommon complication of chronic pancreatitis (CP) and can result in severe gastrointestinal bleeding. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and the potential risk factors for SPH and related gastrointestinal variceal bleeding in patients with CP.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed all patients with SPH due to CP admitted to our hospital from July 2014 to June 2019 in this case-control study.

Aims: To investigate the distribution of diabetic retinopathy (DR) by sex in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in a twelve-province cross-sectional study in China.

Methods: Patients with T2DM, whose ages were ≥18 years, were recruited from 76 cities/counties in 12 provinces in mainland China between January 2015 and December 2018. All participants received a standardized interview, eye examinations, and digital fundus photography.

Shorter Telomere Length in Peripheral Blood Leukocytes Is Associated with Post-Traumatic Chronic Osteomyelitis.

This study investigated the association between post-traumatic chronic osteomyelitis (COM) and peripheral leukocyte telomere length (PLTL) and explored factors associated with PLTL in COM. A total of 56 patients with post-traumatic COM of the extremity and 62 healthy control subjects were recruited. The PLTL was measured by real-time PCR.

In this study, we fused a series of heptapeptide tags with different length fatty chains to the N-terminus of mutated glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) using an intermediate sequence comprising a flexible linker (GGGGS) and thrombin (TBN)-cleavable site (FNPR), to develop promising prolonged GLP-1 receptor (GLP-1R) agonists. As a result, twenty-one fusion peptides, termed PES01-PES21, were designed and prepared.

Hypoxia induces cellular oxidative stress that is associated with neurodegenerative diseases. HPN (4'-hydroxyl-2-substituted phenyl nitronyl nitroxide), a stable nitronyl nitroxide, has excellent free radical scavenging properties. The purpose of this study was to investigate the protective effects of HPN on hypoxia-induced damage in PC12 cells.

Introduction: The effects of erythropoietin (EPO) on the behaviors of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) subjected to mechanical stretch remain unclear. This study was therefore aimed at establishing the dose-response effect of EPO stimulation on rat BMSCs and investigating the effects of mechanical stretch combined with EPO on the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs.

Background: Previous cohort studies investigating the association between sarcopenic obesity (SO) and all-cause mortality among adult people have been inconsistent. We performed a meta-analysis to determine if SO is a predictor of all-cause mortality.

Methods: Prospective cohort studies that evaluated the association between SO and mortality in older people were identified via a systematic search of three electronic databases (PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library).

Recovery of the blood supply is the most effective treatment against ischemic heart disease; however, it is also a major cause of myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury in clinical therapy. Curcumin has been reported to possess beneficial effects against hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R)‑induced cardiomyocyte injury by regulating cell proliferation, apoptosis and antioxidant enzyme activity. The aim of the present study was to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying the effects of curcumin on H/R‑injured cardiomyocytes.

Gastric Mucosal Lesions in Tibetans with High-Altitude Polycythemia Show Increased HIF-1A Expression and ROS Production.

Background: Living at a high plateau in a very hostile environment and low oxygen levels often leads to the development of high-altitude polycythemia (HAPC) and gastric mucosal lesions caused by high-level reactive oxygen species (ROS). Hypoxia-inducible factor-1A (HIF-1A) helps maintain oxygen homeostasis by promoting the transcription of various genes and can be affected by ROS levels. To evaluate the molecular mechanism by which HAPC causes the gastric mucosal lesions, the expression of HIF-1A was measured in Tibetans with HAPC and in healthy subjects.

Effect of basal insulin supplement therapy on diabetic retinopathy in short-duration type 2 diabetes: A one-year randomized parallel-group trial.

Background: In this study, we compared the effect on diabetic retinopathy (DR) between oral antidiabetic drugs (OADs) alone and in combination with basal insulin-supported OADs therapy (BOT).
