Fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) is an idiopathic and systemic non-inflammatory and non-atherosclerotic arterial disease. Fifteen to 25% of patients with FMD present with arterial dissection in at least one arterial bed. Conversely, a substantial number of patients with renal, carotid, and visceral dissection have underlying FMD.

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is diagnosed in a very small percentage of patients with suspected acute coronary syndromes who undergo emergency coronary angiography. Although fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) is known to coexist in patients with SCAD, the vascular sites of FMD and their frequency have not yet been clarified. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 16 patients who were diagnosed with and treated for SCAD at our hospital between 1 January 2011 and 31 January 2023.

Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) is a rare cause of ischemic stroke (IS) in the general population. We report a case of a young patient with NF1 in whom IS was caused by fibromuscular dysplasia. An angiographic study demonstrated occlusion in the right internal carotid artery (ICA), just after its origin, and the left ICA, just before the intracranial portion, and brain magnetic resonance imaging showed the limits of an area of brain infarction in the right frontoparietal region.

Atypical fibromuscular dysplasia of the bulb or carotid web is a nonatheromatous pathology more common in African and African-American populations. It is implicated in the occurrence of cerebral infarcts of unknown causes. Its diagnosis is made by angio-CT of the supra-aortic trunks and is characterized by a defect in the posterior wall of the bulb.

SCAD (Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection) is a rare disorder which rarely recurs. It is increasingly diagnosed as a cause for acute coronary syndrome (ACS) with limited insight into its pathophysiology and treatment. Lack of randomized trials and consensus guidelines make this a unique and challenging disease to manage.

Purpose: Endovascular data on patients with coexistent renal artery stenosis (RAS) and renal artery aneurysm (RAA) caused by fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) are scarce, and the outcomes from RAS-specific treatment on RAA remain unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of RAS-specific endovascular management in patients with coexisting RAA caused by FMD.
Materials And Methods: Clinical and endovascular data on 19 patients with coexistent RAS and RAA caused by FMD who underwent RAS-specific endovascular therapy were analyzed prospectively.

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is an under-recognized cause of acute coronary syndrome that predominantly affects women in adulthood and is the leading cause of acute myocardial infarction in pregnancy. The most common clinical presentation is ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) or non-STEMI, followed by cardiogenic shock (∼2%), sudden cardiac death (0.8% in autopsy series), cardiac arrest, ventricular arrhythmias (∼5%), and Takotsubo syndrome.

Since ancient times, physicians have been aware of correlations between the carotid artery and consciousness; however, carotid stenosis was only recently identified as the cause of atherothrombotic ischemic stroke. In 1658, Wepfer described the first suggestion of a link between symptoms of cerebral arterial insufficiency and carotid pathology. In 1951, Fisher reported details of the symptoms and pathological findings and emphasized that cervical atheromatous lesions induced cerebral infarction with various symptoms.

Carotid artery web (CaW) is a rare focal fibromuscular dysplasia, which is an underappreciated risk factor for transient ischemic attack. This case illustrates the dynamic evolution of secondary thrombus and plaque in CaW, and the importance of carotid doppler ultrasound in early detection and follow-up.

Fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) is a rare systemic vascular disease that has been found to present as a renal infarction (RI) in only a handful of cases. We present a case of a 53-year-old Vietnamese patient presenting for sharp, severe left-sided abdominal pain of two-day duration associated with a migraine headache. On presentation, she was afebrile, and her vital signs were stable.

Isolated aneurysms of the external iliac artery are rare in patients with fibromuscular dysplasia. In this study, we report the case of a 74-year-old man with advanced gastric cancer who was found to have a medium-sized aneurysm of the external iliac artery (35 mm) on preoperative computed tomography angiograms. The patient underwent laparoscopic gastrectomy followed by replacement of the external iliac artery 6 months later.

Background: Secondary hypertension is a relatively rare condition most commonly caused by renovascular disease due to atherosclerotic vascular disease or fibromuscular dysplasia. Although accessory renal arteries are frequent, to date, only six cases of secondary hypertension determined by their existence have been reported.
Case Summary: We describe a case of a 39-year-old female who came to the emergency department with an urgent hypertensive crisis and hypertensive encephalopathy.

Cerebral cavernous malformations (CCMs) are the second most common type of cerebral vascular lesions. They are often associated with other vascular lesions, typically developmental venous anomalies. CCMs are not known to be associated with cerebral aneurysms and there is a paucity of literature on this occurrence.

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is a sudden rupture of coronary artery wall leading to false lumen and intramural hematoma formation. It commonly occurs in young and middle-aged women lacking typical cardiovascular risk factors. Fibromuscular dysplasia and pregnancy are strongly associated with SCAD.

Background: Fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) has a high prevalence of associated nontraumatic carotid artery dissection, which could further result in transient ischaemic attack (TIA) or stroke. Limb shaking TIA is an unusual form of TIA that is commonly discribed in elderly patients with atherosclerotic backgrounds, while there are limited data about it in patients with FMD. Furthermore, discussions of limb shaking TIA in nonelderly patients are scarce.

To date, few study has defined the exact role or utility of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) in the diagnosis and treatment of renal artery fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD). We investigated whether using an IVUS would provide additional insights in the hypertensive patients with focal renal artery FMD. A prospective, observational study, including all patients with focal renal artery FMD admitted to the Ruijin hospital during 6 consecutive years (2015-2021).
