Objectives: To date, no studies have exploited micro-CT in humans to evaluate bone morphology and structure after bone augmentation with CAD/CAM-customized titanium mesh, in mandible and maxilla. The aim of this study was to assess the composition and microstructure of bone biopsy through micro-CT analysis.
Materials And Methods: Bone augmentation at both maxillary and mandible sites was performed on 30 patients randomly treated with customized mesh, either alone (M-) or covered with resorbable membrane (M+), in both cases filled 50:50 with autogenous bone and xenograft.

Introduction: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic neurodegenerative disease that leads to impaired cognitive function and accumulation of disability, with significant socioeconomic burden. Serious unmet need in the context of managing MS has given rise to ongoing research efforts, leading to the launch of new drugs planned for the near future, and subsequent concerns about the sustainability of healthcare systems. This study assessed the changes in the Italian MS market and their impact on the expenditures of the Italian National Healthcare Service between 2023 and 2028.

Background: The programing of subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (S-ICD) in clinical practice has been little studied, as the activation status of the SMART Pass filter, which was implemented to reduce inappropriate shocks.
Purpose: We assessed device programing during follow-up and the rate of detected arrhythmias in consecutive S-ICD recipients.
Methods: We analyzed data from 670 S-ICD patients followed on the remote network at 17 Italian centers for a median of 31 months (25th-75th percentile: 16-51).

Background: Fatigue is a common symptom in Multiple Sclerosis (MS), but its determinants are not clarified yet. Sensory processing sensitivity (SPS) is a personality trait characterized by enhanced sensitivity towards endogenous and exogenous stimuli, and higher attention toward minimal stimuli, resulting in overarousal and fatigue.
Objective: to evaluate the association between SPS and fatigue in MS patients.

The elderly represent an increasing proportion of patients presenting with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Various data have shown that the benefits of percutaneous coronary revascularization are maintained in elderly patients presenting with ACS. Conversely, the management of antiplatelet therapy remains challenging and controversial, because older patients are usually at a high risk of both ischemia and bleeding.

Aim: To provide guidance for follow-up and monitoring of children and adolescents identified as positive to islet autoantibodies (IA) in the general population screening for type 1 diabetes (T1D) in Italy.
Methods: Detection of IA helps to diagnose pre-symptomatic T1D, prevent diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and identify persons for new therapies to delay symptomatic diabetes. Italy recently became the first country to approve by law a general autoantibody screening program for T1D and celiac disease in all children and adolescents (age 1-17yr).

Background: A sex-based evaluation of prognosis in heart failure (HF) is lacking.
Methods And Results: We analyzed the Metabolic Exercise test data combined with Cardiac and Kidney Indexes (MECKI) score registry, which includes HF with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) patients. A cross-validation procedure was performed to estimate weights separately for men and women of all MECKI score parameters: left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), hemoglobin, kidney function assessed by Modification of Diet in Renal Disease, blood sodium level, ventilation vs.

The debilitating neurodegenerative disease known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is characterized by the progressive loss of motor neurons (MNs) in the brain, spinal cord, and motor cortex. The ALS neuroinflammatory component is being characterized and includes the overexpression of mediators, such as inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). Currently, there are no effective treatments for ALS.

The shift to a genotype-first approach in genetic diagnostics has revolutionized our understanding of neurodevelopmental disorders, expanding both their molecular and phenotypic spectra. Kleefstra syndrome (KLEFS1) is caused by EHMT1 haploinsufficiency and exhibits broad clinical manifestations. EHMT1 encodes euchromatic histone methyltransferase-1-a pivotal component of the epigenetic machinery.

Skeletal anomalies represent a characteristic feature of type 1 Gaucher disease (GD1). Here we evaluated the impact of an integrated therapy comprising enzyme-replacement therapy (ERT), cholecalciferol, and a normocalcemic-normocaloric-hyposodic diet (bone diet) on bone health in GD1 patients. We also performed a systematic review to compare our results with available data.

Rehabilitative interventions employing technology play a crucial role in bipolar disorder (BD) treatment. The study aims to appraise the virtual reality (VR)-based cognitive remediation (CR) and the interpersonal rhythm approaches to treatment outcomes of BD across different age groups. Post-hoc analysis of a 12-week randomizedcontrolled cross-over feasibility trial involving people with mood disorders (BD, DSM-IV) aged 18-75 years old: thirty-nine exposed to the experimental VR-based CR vs 25 waiting list controls.

Context: The pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the natural history of glucose intolerance and its fluctuations in subjects with cystic fibrosis (CF) are still unclear.
Objective: To investigate the relationship between longitudinal changes in glucose tolerance and concomitant changes in the main parameters of insulin secretion/metabolism/action determining glucose regulation in CF subjects.
Methods: Insulin sensitivity and glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS, a biomarker of beta cell functional mass), as estimated by the Oral Glucose Sensitivity Index (OGIS) and by a sophisticated mathematical model, respectively, and insulin clearance were assessed in 127 CF subjects, aged 10-25 years, who underwent two OGTT tests over at least 1-year follow-up period.

Background: The growing understanding of cancer biology and the establishment of new treatment modalities has not yielded the expected results in terms of survival for Laryngeal Squamous Cell Cancer (LSCC). Early diagnosis, as well as prompt identification of patients with high risk of relapse would ensure greater chance of therapeutic success. However, this goal remains a challenge due to the absence of specific biomarkers for this neoplasm.
