Evaluate the anticandidal effect of Kunth essential oil and its interaction with azoles and N-acetylcysteine (NAC) against planktonic cells and biofilms. Broth microdilution and checkerboard methods were used to evaluate the individual and combined activity with fluconazole and itraconazole (ITRA). The antibiofilm effect of the oil was assessed in 96-well plates alone and combined with ITRA and NAC, and cytotoxicity determined by MTT.

Kunth, popularly known as "velame," is a shrub that resides in northeastern Brazil. The essential oil of contains high concentrations of volatile compounds in the leaves and is widely used in folk medicine for many purposes as an antiseptic, analgesic, sedative, and anti-inflammatory agent. Due to the apparent limited amount of information, the aim of this study was to determine the cytotoxic potential of essential oil extracted from leaves of , utilizing different human cancer cell lines (HL-60, leukemia; HCT-116, colon; MDA-MB435, melanoma; SF295, glioblastoma) and comparison to murine fibroblast L929 cell line.

The search for assisted reproduction techniques applied to the conservation and even the genetic improvement of wild species is becoming increasingly common. Regarding conservation of male gametes from wild animals, although current advances are focused on cryopreservation, the development of protocols for sperm refrigeration seems to be underrated, despite its various advantages and applications. Therefore, this review aims to highlight the importance of short-term conservation of sperm from wild mammals, report the development of state-of-the-art refrigeration protocols for both ejaculated and epididymal sperm, and evaluate the challenges and prospects of their application.

This review was designed to summarize the most important information around seminal plasma composition and discuss its impact on the freezability of wild mammal semen samples. Seminal plasma is made up of various biochemical constituents, including ions, lipids, proteins, enzymes, and sugars, which vary between species in response to the presence and size of any relevant accessory glands. The biochemical constituents of seminal plasma may change as a result of age, individual variability, and seasonality.

Purpose: To examine healing adaptations over 17 weeks post Achilles tendon (AT) rupture in the injured region (IR) compared to an uninjured region (UIR) of the AT.
Methods: Twenty-four rats were subjected to a complete right-sided AT rupture, while the left side served as a control. ATs were harvested at 1, 2, 8 and 17 weeks post-rupture and stained with antibodies specific to Collagen type I (Col I) and II (Col II) as well as Alcian Blue and Picrosirius Red staining techniques.

The aim of this study was to compare the treatment effects of laser photobiomodulation (LPBM) therapy and aerobic exercise on the biomechanical properties, tissue morphology and the expression of tendon matrix molecules during early remodeling of Achilles tendon (AT) injury in diabetic rats. Animals were randomly assigned to five groups: injured non diabetic (I, n = 15), injured diabetic (ID, n = 15), injured diabetic plus LPBM (IDL, n = 16), injured diabetic plus aerobic exercise (IDE, n = 16) and injured diabetic plus aerobic exercise and LPBM (IDEAL, n = 17). Type 1 diabetes was induced via a single intravenous injection of Streptozotocin at a dose of 40 mg/kg.
