Introduction: The intensification of tilapia production has increased animal density in tanks, leading to more frequent exposure to pathogenic agents and compromising the quality of fish products. Antimicrobial resistance is a global concern that affects human treatment, and sentinel microorganisms like are crucial for monitoring production chains, especially in aquaculture, where research is still limited. The aim of this study was to identify the presence of and investigate its antimicrobial resistance profiles throughout the entire tilapia production chain.

A rare case of renal eventration in a domestic cat.

This case report discusses a unique case of renal eventration in a cat resulting from a lumbar hernia possibly of traumatic origin. A two-year-old indoor/outdoor male neutered domestic shorthair was evaluated for a rapidly growing mass noted in the right lumbar region. Initial physical examination revealed a firm, circular and slightly mobile mass in the lumbar region, along with pain and tenderness on palpation.

Neglected tropical viral diseases are a burden to social and economic welfare being responsible for higher pathogen-related mortality rates and chronic debilitating patient conditions. Climatic changes have widened up the infectibility ratio of such diseases, with autochthonous transmission in formerly temperate-to-cold environments. The slow-paced development of potential vaccines followed by the inexistence of antiviral drugs for such diseases considerably worsens the situation.

Background: Although malocclusion is the third most prevalent oral health condition, orthodontics is not part of the minimum list of mandatory specialties to be offered in the Dental Specialty Centers of the Brazilian public health system, but rather as optional. Since the acknowledgment of this field as a part of the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS), access to orthodontic procedures has become optional by municipal governments. Therefore, this study analyzed the evolution of orthodontic procedure provision within SUS from 2011 to 2022.

Antimicrobial and synergistic activities were determined using the broth dilution method and the checkerboard assay, respectively.

This scoping review aimed to provide an overview of current advancements in virtual planning and custom-made 3D-printed bioresorbable scaffolds, and to evaluate their clinical outcomes in maxillofacial reconstructive surgeries. Electronic searches of PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane Library databases were conducted for publications up to June 2024. Bioinspired Hydrophobicity via Temperature-Induced Phase Separation of Beeswax: A Pathway for Developing Cellulose Nanofiber-Based Adsorbents for the Removal of Conventional Tetracycline Tablets.

Cellulose nanofiber-based aerogels (CNFAs) hold immense promise across diverse fields, but their innate hydrophilicity and structural fragility in water have constrained their utility in water purification. This study introduces a green approach to induce hydrophobicity into CNFAs via thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) of beeswax, which was adhered to the nanofiber by hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic-hydrophobic interactions. The fabricated aerogel was characterized by using FTIR, SEM, XRD, TGA, contact angle, BET, and compression test.

Association between motor neuron disease and HIV infection: A systematic review of case reports.

Background: Motor neuron disease (MND) is a well-known group of neurodegenerative diseases, with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) being the most common form. Since 1985, a possible association between MND/ALS and HIV infection has been described.

Methods: We performed a systematic review of case reports and case series involving people living with HIV with MND/ALS through PubMed, Bireme, Embase, and Lilacs databases.

Background: Obesity and various biochemical parameters, including triglycerides, cholesterol, glucose, C-reactive protein, and estimated glomerular filtration rate, have been linked to elevated uric acid (UA) levels in populations with normal kidney function due to decreased UA excretion and/or increased UA synthesis. However, it remains unclear whether all these factors exhibit similar associations with UA levels in clinical populations characterized by compromised renal function, such as kidney transplant patients (KTPs).

Methods: Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) with negative LTBI were retrospectively evaluated for TST conversion and active tuberculosis (TB) after six months of exposition to TNFi. Two groups were compared: patients who repeated TST (TST-repetition) during the follow-up and patients who did not (non-TST-repetition).

Microbiota of arabica coffee: insights from soil to fruit.

Studies have shown that a diverse and metabolically active microbiota exists throughout different stages of coffee processing, from pre- to post-harvest. This microbiota originates from both the cultivation and processing environments. Additionally, microorganisms from the soil can be found on the fruit due to the transfer between them.
