: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is the most challenging molecular subtype of breast cancer (BC) in clinical practice, associated with a worse prognosis due to limited treatment strategies and its insensitivity to conventional drugs. Zinc is an important trace element for homeostasis, and its Schiff base metal complexes have shown promise in treating advanced tumors. In this study, four new heteroleptic Zn(II) complexes (-) with Schiff bases were synthesized, characterized, and evaluated for their activity in BC cells.

Ticks have coevolved with their hosts over millions of years, developing the ability to evade hemostatic, inflammatory, and immunological responses. Salivary molecules from these vectors bind to cytokines, chemokines, antibodies, complement system proteins, vasodilators, and molecules involved in coagulation and platelet aggregation, among others, inhibiting or blocking their activities. Initially studied to understand the complexities of tick-host interactions, these molecules have been more recently recognized for their potential clinical applications.

Objective: To evaluate the influence of pre-existing maternal diabetes mellitus on fetal myocardial performance index and systolic-to-diastolic duration ratio.

Methods: Prospective cohort study included 179 pregnant women between 20 and 36w6d, divided into 3 groups: Group 1 (120, normal), Group 2 (31, type 1 diabetes mellitus), and Group 3 (28, type 2 diabetes mellitus). Systolic-to-diastolic duration ratio was calculated as the sum of isovolumic contraction time and ejection time divided by the sum of isovolumic relaxation time and ventricular filling time.

We studied the ultrastructure of the ultrablack cuticle in , an enigmatic and visually striking species of velvet ants (Hymenoptera, Mutillidae). Using a combination of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), and optical spectroscopy, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of the cuticle to elucidate its unique optical properties. SEM imaging provided a detailed surface morphology, while TEM provided insights into the internal structure.

The CYP2C19 enzyme is implicated in the metabolism of several clinically used drugs. Its phenotype is usually predicted by genotyping and indicates the expected enzymatic activity for each patient. However, with a few exceptions, genotyping has not resulted in a reliable prediction of the metabolizer status, since most of the evidence currently available for this prediction comes from research into populations of predominantly European ancestry.

Applied Physical Therapy Department, Federal University of Triangulo Mineiro, Brazil - Rua Vigário Carlos, 100 - Bloco B - 4° andar - Sala 406 - Abadia. Uberaba, MG, CEP: 38025-350, Uberaba, MG, Brazil. Electronic address:

Background: Dynamic tape™ (DT) is a biomechanical tape used to manage load directly, modify movement patterns, and assist functioning. Despite its increasing use in clinical practice, few studies have evaluated its effectiveness in improving postural stability, balance, and lower limb kinetics during jump landing tasks. This study aimed to investigate the acute effect of applying DT to the gluteus medius (GM) muscle on balance strategies during squatting, as well as on jump landing kinetics in asymptomatic active women.

  • Ependymomas are a type of brain tumor in children, making up 6-10% of such cases, and this study looks at the effectiveness of proton therapy for treatment.
  • A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted, involving 908 patients from ten studies, focusing on survival rates and complications from the treatment.
  • The results indicate that while proton radiotherapy shows promising safety and efficacy with high overall survival rates, caution is advised due to variability in some adverse event outcomes indicated by wide confidence intervals.

This study aimed to investigate the impact of alcohol (A), secondhand cigarette smoking (ShS), and their combined effect on liver antioxidant activity and hepatic damage in rats with induced apical periodontitis (AP). Thirty-five female Wistar rats were randomly allocated into five groups (n = 7): (1) control (rats without ShS, alcoholic diet, or AP), (2) control-AP (induced AP only), (3) ShS-AP (ShS exposure and induced AP), (4) A-AP (alcoholic diet and induced AP), and (5) A+ShS-AP (alcoholic diet, ShS exposure, and induced AP). Alcohol was administered through semi-voluntary intake, while ShS exposure involved the daily inhalation of cigarette smoke.
