The aim was to evaluate primary implant stability and bone microarchitecture in two drilling situations, by comparing the conventional technique (CT) and osseodensification (OD) (Versah Burs - Jackson - Mississippi - USA). The implant insertion torque (IT), implant stability quotient (ISQ), and the peri-implant trabecular microstructure were assessed on bone fragments obtained from pig's tibia (n=12), divided between CT (n=6) and OD (n=6). After the drilling procedure, the implants were installed (3.

Objective: Vitamin D (VD) is a fat-soluble steroid hormone, synthesized by the skin, most known for its role in bone mineral balance. Vitamin D receptors (VDR) are also found in the female reproductive system, but their role remains unclear. The objective of this study was to analyze the relationship between serum vitamin D levels and the number of oocytes retrieved after ovarian stimulation.

Antibiotic resistance continues to be an ominous threat facing human health globally and urgent action is required to limit the loss of human life. The pollution of antibiotics into the environment is one of the drivers behind the crisis. With this in mind, we have developed novel photodecomposable antimicrobial agents based on an ethanolamine scaffold, which upon photoirradiation decomposes into two major inactive fragments.

An outbreak of births of microcephalic patients in Brazil motivated multiple studies on this incident. The data left no doubt that infection by Zika virus (ZIKV) was the cause, and that this virus promotes reduction in neuron numbers and neuronal death. Analysis of patients' characteristics revealed additional aspects of the pathology alongside the decrease in neuronal number.

Because AD is a condition demanding effective management, its socioeconomic burden is immense and threatens the health systems of both low- and middle-income (LMIC) and high-income (HIC) countries. However, while most of the HICs are increasing their budget for AD research, the situation is different in LMICs, and resources are scarce.

Silicosis is an irreversible and progressive fibrotic lung disease caused by massive inhalation of crystalline silica dust at workplaces, affecting millions of industrial workers worldwide. A tyrosine kinase inhibitor, nintedanib (NTB), has emerged as a potential silicosis treatment due to its inhibitory effects on key signaling pathways that promote silica-induced pulmonary fibrosis. However, chronic and frequent use of the oral NTB formulation clinically approved for treating other fibrotic lung diseases often results in significant side effects.

Objective: To identify the managerial actions proposed and employed to reduce the waiting time to initiate oncological treatments in the public health system and its application in Latin America.
Method: We searched seven databases in December 2020. Search terms were conceptualized into three groups: waiting time, cancer, and terms related to public sector.
A concise synthesis of molnupiravir in a one-pot two-step approach starting from uridine is described. Formally, herein, two sets of one-pot two-reaction steps introducing simplicity for purifications and using chemically available reagents are presented. In this context, molnupiravir was obtained in up to 68% overall yield and multigram-scale.

Regulation of flowering is a crucial event in the evolutionary history of angiosperms. The production of flowers is regulated through the integration of different environmental and endogenous stimuli, many of which involve the activation of different genes in a hierarchical and complex signaling network. The / () gene family is known to regulate important aspects of flowering in plants.

Background: Support surfaces variables, such as size, material, and density, can determine chest compression depth in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Objective: to analyze the force required to do a high-quality chest compression concerning different surfaces in CPR.
Method: This experimental study was developed using a Little Anne manikin and a mechanical device to perform chest compressions.
Aim: Understanding the variation in community composition and species abundances (i.e., β-diversity) is at the heart of community ecology.

The Surviving Sepsis Campaign International Guidelines for the Management of Septic Shock and Sepsis-associated Organ Dysfunction in Children was released in 2020 and is intended for use in all global settings that care for children with sepsis. However, practitioners managing children with sep sis in resource-limited settings (RLS) face several challenges and disease patterns not experienced by those in resource-rich settings. Based upon our collective experience from RLS, we aimed to reflect on the difficulties of implementing the international guidelines.

Mutant p53 tends to form aggregates with amyloid properties, especially amyloid oligomers inside the nucleus, which are believed to cause oncogenic gain-of-function (GoF). The mechanism of the formation of the aggregates in the nucleus remains uncertain. The present study demonstrated that the DNA-binding domain of p53 (p53C) underwent phase separation (PS) on the pathway to aggregation under various conditions.

An example is the photodimerization of 9--butyl-anthracene ester () in molecular crystal nanorods that leads to an average elongation of 8%. Previous work showed that this expansion results from the formation of a metastable crystalline product.

Background: Animal models are widely used in scientific research in order to obtain information from a whole organism under a specific set of experimental conditions. Various lineages of mice have been used to investigate diseases and new therapeutic strategies, and, consequently, hematological and biochemical tests in these laboratory animals are essential to validate scientific studies. Our study seeks to establish reference values for hematological and biochemical parameters of four lineages of mice.

The SARS-CoV-2 global pandemic will disproportionately impact countries with weak economies and vulnerable populations including people with dementia. Latin American and Caribbean countries (LACs) are burdened with unstable economic development, fragile health systems, massive economic disparities, and a high prevalence of dementia. Here, we underscore the selective impact of SARS-CoV-2 on dementia among LACs, the specific strain on health systems devoted to dementia, and the subsequent effect of increasing inequalities among those with dementia in the region.

Introduction: Heart Failure (HF) treatment may be improved by good knowledge of the disease (Health Literacy) that, despite the well-established role on improving self-care, preventing complications and avoiding worse outcomes, has little evidence on affecting QoL of HF patients. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the impact of Health Literacy on QoL in hospitalized HF patients.
Methodology: A cross-sectional exploratory study was conducted with HF patients hospitalized at a public cardiological hospital.
Background: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a common chronic disease with worldwide prevalence of 10% to 79%, with costs ranging from $560 to $635 billion for year in United States of America. The main guidelines recommend interventions with undesirable adverse events (AE) or highly dependent on the patient's persistence. Thus, intra-articular (IA) therapies appear to be attractive in patients with KOA, as well as a valid therapy by maximizing effects locally in the joint and limiting systemic AE.

Macaque monkeys are emerging as important translational models of neurodegeneration, and NFL may be a useful biomarker.
Methods: To determine the influence of a previous lumbar puncture (LP) on NFL, we collected CSF at multiple time points in macaque monkeys via LP or cisterna magna puncture.

Introduction: Irisin is a novel hormone originally identified for its role as a regulator of peripheral metabolism and recently found to protect synapses and rescue memory in mouse models of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, whether and how cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) irisin varies in relation to canonical AD biomarkers and cognition in humans remains unknown.
Methods: We determined CSF levels of irisin and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and examined their correlations with CSF amyloid beta (Aβ), total tau, and Mini-Mental State Exam (MMSE) scores in a cohort comprising AD patients ( = 14) and non-demented controls (NDC; = 25).
