Department of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, UFRGS, Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul 91540-000, Brazil. Electronic address:

As previous data showing the negative impact of semen agitation during transport on sperm quality was obtained only in tube-type packages, this study aimed to compare two packages for boar semen dose (bag or tube) submitted to different agitation times. Ejaculates from thirty different boars were diluted in BTS extender, packed in bags or tubes in split sample, and submitted to agitation for 0, 6, or 12 h at 100 rpm at 17 ºC. Semen doses were stored for up to 168 h and evaluated for quality traits.

  • The study evaluated the effectiveness of telemedicine, specifically nurse phone calls, in managing type 2 diabetes for patients transitioning to primary care after discharge from a tertiary clinic.
  • In a randomized clinical trial with 147 patients, there was no significant difference in HbA1c levels (a marker of blood sugar control) after 12 months between those who received telemedicine support and those who underwent standard care.
  • Overall, both groups maintained reasonable glycemic control, indicating that transitioning to primary care, with or without additional telemedicine support, was effective and safe for managing type 2 diabetes.

Graduate Program in Electrical Engineering, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Osvaldo Aranha 103, 90035-190, Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil.

Article Synopsis
  • The paper addresses the challenges of load-sharing and circulating currents in parallel-connected inverters without intercommunication, focusing on uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs) using droop control.
  • It demonstrates that incorporating multiple-resonant controllers with damping factors improves power-sharing stability and reduces circulating currents between UPSs.
  • The study validates these effects through experimental results from two parallel 3.5 kVA UPSs, highlighting the significance of carefully chosen damping coefficients in enhancing voltage regulation stability.

Most of the rapid inhibitory neurotransmission in the brain is mediated through activation of the γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) type A (GABA) receptor, which is a ligand-gated ion channel. GABA receptor activation via GABA binding allows for an intracellular influx of Cl ions, thus inducing cellular hyperpolarization. Each GABA receptor consists of a combination of five subunits, and several subunits have been proposed as biomarkers and therapeutic targets in cancer.
