Most of the rapid inhibitory neurotransmission in the brain is mediated through activation of the γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) type A (GABA) receptor, which is a ligand-gated ion channel. GABA receptor activation via GABA binding allows for an intracellular influx of Cl ions, thus inducing cellular hyperpolarization. Each GABA receptor consists of a combination of five subunits, and several subunits have been proposed as biomarkers and therapeutic targets in cancer.

The aim of this cross-sectional study was to investigate the relationship between physical fitness, executive function, and academic performance in children and adolescents. A total of 131 students (49% female) aged 10-15 years from a public school in Rio de Janeiro were assessed in executive functions (hearts and flowers, Corsi's block, and digit span tasks), academic performance (Portuguese, reading, math, and overall school grade), physical tests (touch test disc, agility, lower limb and upper limb explosive strength), and anthropometric measurements. Regression results showed that the composite of sports-related fitness measures was the best predictor of executive functions (β = 0.

Introduction: This study was designed to evaluate the effects of multiple cold-water immersions performed daily during the preseason period on biochemical, clinical, and neuromuscular aspects of muscle damage of soccer players.
Methods: This two-arm, prospectively registered, randomized controlled trial, blinded to statistician and assessors, was conducted at professional football club facilities. Twenty-three under-20 semi-professionals male soccer players were randomly allocated into cold water immersion group (bathtub with water and ice at 10 °C ± 1 °C for 10 min) or control group (rest for 10 min), every day, after training sessions during a preseason.

Background: Previously, we developed a mathematical model capable of predicting pubertal development (PD) through seven anthropometric variables, with an accuracy of 75%. We believe that it is possible to develop a similar model that uses fewer anthropometric measurements and provides greater precision.
Objective: Develop a mathematical model capable of predicting PD through anthropometric variables.

Neuronal oscillatory patterns are believed to underpin multiple cognitive mechanisms. Accordingly, compromised oscillatory dynamics were shown to be associated with neuropsychiatric conditions. Therefore, the possibility of modulating, or controlling, oscillatory components of brain activity as a therapeutic approach has emerged.

The objective of this study was to develop a predictive model using supervised machine learning to determine sex based on the dimensions of the hyoid bone. Lateral cephalometric radiographs of 495 patients were analyzed, collecting the horizontal and vertical dimensions of the hyoid bone, as well as the distance from the hyoid to the mandible. The following algorithms were trained: Logistic Regression, Gradient Boosting Classifier, K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Multilayer Perceptron Classifier (MLP), Decision Tree, AdaBoost Classifier, and Random Forest Classifier.

Background & Aims: Phase angle (PhA) is a biomarker derived from raw bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) values: resistance (R) and reactance (Xc). PhA reflects cellular membrane integrity and, as a result, has been considered a marker of fluid distribution, making it a potential prognostic indicator. A growing body of research demonstrates independent associations between PhA and muscle strength, mass, and composition.

Background: Syphilis is a systemic, preventable, and curable infection caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. Despite being treatable, syphilis continues to have a high incidence, with a resurgence observed even in countries with strong health surveillance systems. This highlights the need to understand the various strategies used globally to improve access to care for individuals with syphilis.

In this study, high-entropy spinel oxides (CoNiMnFeCr)O were synthesized using a PVP-assisted sol-gel method, marking the first report of this approach for producing high-entropy oxides. This method provides new insights into morphology customization through precise temperature control during calcination. Samples were calcined at 800, 900, and 1000 °C, and structural, optical, and electrochemical characterizations were performed to evaluate the impact of synthesis conditions on the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance.

This work describes results of a first proof of the concept of electrorefinery with a real waste obtained from a cashew nut factory, and it shows the effect of the current densities of both the anodic oxidation and electrochemically assisted separation processes on the performance of the system. Results obtained demonstrate that electrorefinery is a promising option to minimize the carbon fingerprint, worth studying for increasing the sustainability of the environmental remediation of wastes, because valuable species can be obtained from the destruction of pollutants and recovered within the same integrated process. They also point out that there is still a long way to reach an optimum solution for this technology, but it is worth the effort to be made.

Aim: To test a middle-range theory (MRT) for the nursing diagnosis of ineffective breathing pattern in children with congenital heart disease (CHD) based on analysis of two general propositions.
Methods: This cross-sectional study is guided by STROBE. The propositions represent hypotheses about the relationships between the concepts of this MRT to be tested empirically, and thus, log-linear models were used to verify the structure of the proposition related to the stimuli.

Anxiety elicits various physiological responses, including changes in the respiratory rate and neuronal activity within specific brain regions such as the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC). Previous research suggests that the olfactory bulb (OB) modulates the mPFC through respiration-coupled oscillations (RCOs), which have been linked to fear-related freezing behavior. Nevertheless, the impact of breathing on frontal brain networks during other negative emotional responses, such as anxiety-related states characterized by higher breathing rates, remains unclear.
