Food choice is a complex function of preferences and combines a myriad of food-related factors, such as biological, economic, physical, social, and psychological determinants. People's food choices directly affect their health and can have both positive and negative outcomes. For instance, the pandemic may have presented an opportunity to cook more at home, eventually resulting in dietary benefits, health improvements, and reduced stress.

Heavy mineral deposits occur in several coastal areas of the world, formed over a long period due to variations in mean sea level, wave action, and winds. These are the main sources of ilmenite (FeTiO3), which in turn is the source of more than 80% of the TiO2 produced and applied in various industries, most recently in nanotechnology. The present study mapped heavy mineral deposits on the coast of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil using integrated proximal and orbital thermal infrared (TIR) remote sensing techniques.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the emergence of acute and chronic post-COVID syndromes, which present diverse clinical manifestations. The underlying pathophysiology of these conditions is not yet fully understood, but genetic instability has been proposed as a potential contributing factor. This study aimed to explore the differential impact of physical and psychological health factors on genetic instability in individuals with acute and chronic post-COVID syndromes.

Textile dyes are frequently disposable in aqueous effluents, making it difficult to remove them from industrial effluents before their release to natural waters. This paper deals with the fabrication of cellulose-based adsorbents by reacting nanocelulose crystalline (nanocel) with N-[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]ethylenediamine (TMSPEDA), forming the hybrid (silylpropyl)ethylenediamine@nanocellulose (SPEDA@nanocel), which was employed as adsorbent for the uptake of reactive yellow 2 dye (RY-2) from aqueous effluents. Characterisation of SPEDA@nanocel was carried out using FTIR, SEM-EDS, XRD, TGA, surface area, pH, and hydrophobicity/hydrophilicity ratio (HI).

Plant-growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) have beneficial effects on plants. They can promote growth and enhance plant defense against abiotic stress and disease, and these effects are associated with changes in the plant metabolite profile. The research problem addressed in this study was the impact of inoculation with PGPB on the metabolite profile of L.

Herein, a novel sulfur-doped carbon material has been synthesized via a facile and sustainable single-step pyrolysis method using lignin-sulfonate (LS), a by-product of the sulfite pulping process, as a novel carbon precursor and zinc chloride as a chemical activator. The sulfur doping process had a remarkable impact on the LS-sulfur carbon structure. Moreover, it was found that sulfur doping also had an important impact on sodium diclofenac removal from aqueous solutions due to the introduction of S-functionalities on the carbon material's surface.

Introduction: Treatment of impacted upper incisors in a labially inverted position is challenging for orthodontists, and its prognosis has not been established in the literature. Thus, this systematic review aimed to determine the effectiveness and side effects of orthodontic traction of impacted maxillary incisors in a labially inverted position.
Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in multiple databases, including MEDLINE (via PubMed), Scopus, Embase, Science Direct, and LILACS, up to June 30, 2024.

Aims: This study investigated the bacterial communities in the rhizosphere of two traditional Portuguese olive cultivars, Cobrançosa and Negrinha de Freixo, in relation to soil properties. Additionally, we aimed to isolate and identify bacteria with potential for biocontrol and other plant growth-promoting traits from these rhizosphere communities.
Methods And Results: Bacterial communities in the olive rhizosphere were investigated using a metabarcoding approach and the soil physicochemical properties of the olive groves were also analyzed.

Neonatal hypoxia-ischemia (HI) is one of the main causes of mortality and long-term disabilities in newborns, and the only clinical approach to treat this condition is therapeutic hypothermia, which shows some limitations. Thus, putative neuroprotective agents have been tested in animal models of HI. Lactate is a preferential metabolic substrate of the neonatal brain and has already been shown to produce beneficial neuroprotective outcomes in neonatal animals exposed to HI.

Porcine adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) has been considered valid for the ACTH stimulation test (ACTHST) in humans and dogs; however, its safety and efficacy for use in cats are unknown. Also, the equivalence between 5 µg/kg and 125 µg/cat dose of synthetic corticotropin (1-24 ACTH - cosyntropin/tetracosactide) is assumed for ACTHST in cats. This study evaluated the safety and effectiveness of different porcine recombinant ACTH doses for the ACTHST in healthy cats and its equivalence with tetracosactide.

Two new heptapeptides, [1-7-NαC]-crocaorbs A1 (1) and A2 (2), were isolated from the latex of Croton campanulatus. Their structures were determined using NMR spectroscopic techniques, ESI-HRMS data, Marfey's method, and further refined using molecular dynamics with simulated annealing (MD/SA). Molecular dynamics calculations of peptides 1 and 2 demonstrated greater stability in simulations using a biological solvent compared to those using DMSO.

Background: Chondroitin and glucosamine sulphates (CGS) are considered structure-modifying drugs and have been studied in the prevention, delay or reversal of structural morphological changes in joints caused by osteoarthritis.
Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate the action of CGS on the progression of chemically induced osteoarthritis in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) of rabbits by evaluating the serum levels of tumour necrosis factor (TNF-α) and collagen in the articular discs.
Materials And Methods: A sample of 36 male rabbits was divided into three groups: control (CG), osteoarthritis (OG) and treatment (TG).

Victims of traumatic events that involve repeated interpersonal aggression and low or no chance of escape frequently report intense Self-Conscious Emotions (SCEs), such as Shame, Guilt, and Humiliation. Humiliation is the reaction to a forced loss of status and is hypothesized to have unique contributions to the development and maintenance of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Complex Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD). However, previous studies did not include humiliation or did not simultaneously probe the relative contribution of each SCE to posttraumatic symptoms.

The presence of pharmaceuticals in wastewater resulting from human activities has driven researchers to explore effective treatment methods such as adsorption using activated carbon (AC). While AC shows promise as an adsorbent, further studies are essential to comprehend its entire interaction with pharmaceuticals. This article investigates the adsorption of potassium diclofenac (PD) onto AC using experimental and modeling approaches.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is characterised by an increase in mean pulmonary arterial pressure and a compromised the right ventricle (RV), together with progression to heart failure and premature death. Studies have evaluated the role of melatonin as a promising therapeutic strategy for PAH. The objective of this study was to evaluate melatonin's effects on oxidative stress and on the TLR4/NF-kβ inflammatory pathway in the RV of rats with PAH.
