Article Synopsis
  • The report discusses a clinical case of oral lichenoid lesions linked to amalgam dental restorations, accompanied by desquamative gingivitis, over a nine-month follow-up period.
  • Diagnosis was achieved through a combination of medical history, clinical examination, histopathology, and positive patch tests for allergies, specifically to thimerosal, a mercury compound.
  • Improvements were noted after replacing amalgam restorations, including the reduction of desquamative gingivitis and erosive lesions, yet ongoing observation is necessary to rule out possible underlying conditions like lichen planus.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate a possible relationship between DRD2/ANKK1 (rs1800497) and SLC6A3/DAT1 (rs28363170) gene polymorphisms with the response to levodopa (L-DOPA)-therapy in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD).

Methods: One hundred and ninety-five patients with idiopathic PD were investigated. Patients were genotyped for rs1800497 and rs28363170 polymorphisms using PCR-RFLP.

Aim: To report a case of association between the surgical treatment of temporomandibular dysfunction and rehabilitation with denture total prosthesis (TP) using nonanatomic teeth (cusp 0°) in patients with anterior recurrent dislocation of the temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) and persistent uncontrolled mandibular movement, showing a technical adaptation and conduct.

Introduction: There are several treatment approaches available for dislocation of the TMJ. The use of condylar mini-anchors for recurrent TMJ dislocation is a valid option and should be considered since it does not alter the joint anatomy.

Dreaming and psychosis share important features, such as intrinsic sense perceptions independent of external stimulation, and a general lack of criticism that is associated with reduced frontal cerebral activity. Awareness of dreaming while a dream is happening defines lucid dreaming (LD), a state in which the prefrontal cortex is more active than during regular dreaming. For this reason, LD has been proposed to be potentially therapeutic for psychotic patients.

Verbal fluency is the ability to produce a satisfying sequence of spoken words during a given time interval. The core of verbal fluency lies in the capacity to manage the executive aspects of language. The standard scores of the semantic verbal fluency test are broadly used in the neuropsychological assessment of the elderly, and different analytical methods are likely to extract even more information from the data generated in this test.

Increased sialylation and β1,6-branched oligosaccharides has been associated with a variety of structural changes in cell surface carbohydrates, most notably in tumorigenesis. Lectins are defined as proteins that preferentially recognize and bind carbohydrate complexes protruding from glycolipids and glycoproteins. This interaction with carbohydrates can be as specific as the interaction between antigen and antibody.

The brain, more than any other organ in the body, is vulnerable to oxidative stress damage, owing to its requirement for high levels of oxygenation. This is needed to fulfill its metabolic needs in the face of relatively low levels of protective antioxidants. Recent studies have suggested that oxidative stress is directly involved in the etiology of both eating and anxiety behavior.
