The endocannabinoid system (ECS) plays a pivotal role in reproductive physiology, including gonadal development, though its influence on testis and ovary development has only recently gained attention. The ECS comprises lipid-derived ligands such as anandamide (AEA) and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG), along with cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2, which are expressed in various gonadal cells. Emerging research indicates that ECS signaling is critical for testosterone synthesis and gonadal cell proliferation and differentiation.

MicroRNAs can be found intracellularly incorporated into extracellular vesicles (EV-miRNAs) or extracellularly as cell-free miRNAs (cf-miRNAs). This study aimed to compare the diagnostic and prognostic potential of four miRNAs with recognized roles in prostate cancer as cf-miRNAs and EV-miRNAs, obtained from liquid biopsies (LB). Total RNA was isolated from whole plasma and plasma EVs from 15 controls (CTR) and 30 patients (20 with localized prostate cancer (PCa), 10 with metastatic prostate cancer (mPCa)).

This work assessed the efficiency and sustainability of ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) of anthocyanins from grape pomace using bio-based solvents: Ethanol, Isopropanol, Propylene-glycol, and Ethylene-glycol at different concentrations (50 and 100 % v/v) and temperatures (25 °C and 50 °C). Higher ultrasonic intensities (UI) were obtained at 50 °C and 50 % v/v by decreasing solvents viscosities. Under these conditions, anthocyanin extractions were performed with different combinations of solvent to liquid ratio (SLR) at 1:10 and 1:50 g/mL, and UI (3.

The genomic monitoring of SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern (VOCs) in riverine and sewage water has been widely used as an epidemiological tool worldwide. But its utility for epidemiological assessments still needs to be evaluated in some areas. Our study encompassed thirteen Brazilian rivers spanning a vast urban expanse across the states of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Paraná.

The absolute total cross section for electron collisions with acetic acid has been measured using an electrostatic electron spectrometer and linear transmission method for collision energies ranging from 0.4 to 300 eV. Elastic electron scattering from acetic acid within a low-energy range has also been studied theoretically using the Schwinger multichannel and R-matrix methods, in the static-exchange and static-exchange plus polarization levels of approximation for energies up to 15 eV.

Despite the increasing use of drugs to facilitate feline management in veterinary care, there is still a lack of information on the anxiolytic and sedative effects and their specific physiological impacts. We aimed to compare the sedative, hematological, biochemical and cardiovascular effects of oral single-dose trazodone and gabapentin, alone or in combination, in 8 healthy adult mixed-breed domestic cats on a prospective, randomized, cross-over, and placebo-controlled study. Cats were assigned to receive an oral single dose of trazodone (50 mg) (TG), gabapentin (100 mg) (GG), trazodone (50 mg) and gabapentin (100 mg) (GTG), or placebo (PG).

Background: Male sexuality plays a crucial role in determining the overall quality of life, and it involves complex interactions between physical systems and psychosocial dimensions. Erectile dysfunction (ED) has a particularly notable impact on men's well-being, especially among those living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This study's aim was to explore the prevalence of ED and its associated factors in men with HIV.

Human fascination with chimpanzees has driven extensive research on the species, but also led to exploitation by private owners and entertainment industries. These animals often suffer species-specific inadequate conditions, which can result in the development and display of abnormal behaviors even after rescue. These behaviors highlight the importance for zoos and sanctuaries to actively prevent worsening the effects of previous inadequate treatment by providing apes with social and stimulating environments that support their recovery.

Background: Migraine is a painful neurological syndrome characterized by attacks of throbbing headache, of moderate to severe intensity, which is associated with photo- and phono- sensitivity as well as nausea and vomiting. It affects about 15% of the world's population being 2-3 times more prevalent in females. The calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is a key mediator in the pathophysiology of migraine, and a significant advance in the field has been the development of anti-CGRP therapies.

Predictions of hospitalizations can help in the development of applications for health insurance, hospitals, and medicine. The data collected by health insurance has potential that is not always explored, and extracting features from it for use in machine learning applications requires demanding processes and specialized knowledge. With the emergence of large language models (LLM) there are possibilities to use this data for a wide range of applications requiring little specialized knowledge.

Internal curing is a process based on the addition of materials that function as water reservoirs in cementitious media. Superabsorbent hydrogels are an alternative that can be used as an internal curing agent, as they have the ability to absorb and release water in a controlled manner. In the present work, superabsorbent hydrogels based on crosslinked polyacrylamide in the presence of starch and sugarcane bagasse ash (SCBA) were developed and applied to mortars as an internal curing agent.

Superabsorbent polymers (PSAs) have been extensively studied to act as internal curing agents in cementitious materials, as they have the characteristic of absorbing and releasing water in a controlled manner, which can contribute to the hydration process of a cementitious medium during its consolidation. Thus, hydrogels consisting of polyacrylamide (PAAm), pectin (Pec) and rice husk ash (RHA) were synthesized to be applied in cementitious matrices. In addition, the PSAs were characterized by FTIR, SEM, and XRD.

Cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) receive great attention for their physical and optical properties, high surface area, high tensile strength, rigidity (Young's modulus up to 140 GPa), and ease of surface modification. However, controlling the properties of CNC is still challenging, given the wide variety of pulp sources and the complexity of finding suitable processing conditions. In the present study, acid hydrolysis efficiently isolated CNC from wood brown kraft pulp (AMKP).
