Background: The aging process leads to negative changes in various bodily systems, including the neuromuscular system. Strength training, is considered the best strategy to counteract these neuromuscular changes, preventing sarcopenia and frailty in older adults.
Objective: To compare the effects of strength training with elastic resistance and free weights on the muscle strength of knee extensors and flexors and functional performance in the older adults.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate the association of temporal patterns of food consumption with cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk.
Methods: This cross-sectional study included male rotating shift workers in an iron ore extraction company. Data on food consumption was collected using a 24 h recall, applied by trained interviewers.

Objective: The aim of the study is to explore possible associations according to quality of sleep and work from home (WFH) with physical inactivity (PI) during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods: This is a cross-sectional study in two Brazilian cities (>18 years), by probability sampling. Leisure-time physical activity was self-reported and classified according to guidelines.

Objective: To assess the clinical and nutritional risk factors related to the occurrence of pressure ulcers (PUs) in patients admitted to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Methods: This is a cohort retrospective study, carried out by analyzing the medical records of patients admitted to the ICU of a hospital, containing information on sociodemographic, clinical, dietary, and anthropometric data, presence of mechanical ventilation, sedation, and use of noradrenaline. To verify the clinical and nutritional risk factors, multivariate Poisson's regression with robust variance was used to estimate the relative risk (RR) according to the explanatory variables.

Objective: To characterize the epidemiological and clinical profile of individuals more likely to become infected with SARS-CoV-2 after the fully vaccination schedule in order to profile priority groups to receive a booster dose in situations of vaccine doses shortage as well as for maintenance of personal protective care.
Methods: This cross-sectional study used data from hospitalized COVID-19 patients aged ≥18 years, who had been fully vaccinated and had a SARS-CoV-2 infection positive diagnosis collected from the SIVEP-Gripe database (Influenza Epidemiological Surveillance Information System) from January 18, 2021 to September 15, 2021. Demographic data, clinical symptoms and preexisting medical conditions (comorbidities) were analyzed.

We aimed to assess the factors associated with frequent sadness and nervousness in Brazilian adolescents, during the Covid-19 pandemic, in 9470 adolescents (aged 12-17 years), interviewed from June 27 to September 17, 2020. Prevalences and prevalence ratios were estimated according to socio-demographic variables and factors related to family, school, friends, and health. Brazilian adolescents often felt sad (32.

Background: Arterial hypertension (AH) is implicated in vascular health and contributes significantly to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. In addition to the contribution of usual risk factors for AH, elucidating the influence of genetic factors is a promising area of investigation. Therefore, we evaluated the association between AH and cardiovascular risk factors (CVRFs) and genetic polymorphisms in communities in Southeast Brazil.

The effect of intermolecular interactions between the chains of the amorphous PFO-MEH-PPV films built from toluene and tetrahydrofuran (THF) were studied by atomistic molecular dynamics simulations, applying a successive solvent removal procedure. In the good solvent toluene, the incidence of topological entanglements is more significant. While in the poor solvent, coplanar interactions between neighbouring segments of the chains were also found, which is characteristics of cohesional entanglements.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between plasma vaspin concentrations and IR and determine whether this association is affected by body composition, physical activity and pubertal stage in adolescents.
Methods: Were studied 484 Brazilian adolescents aged 10-14 years whose anthropometric, clinical, biochemical, and lifestyle measurements were analized.
Introduction: Adiponectin, an adipocyte derived peptide, has anti-inflammatory and antiatherogenic effects, and improves insulin sensitivity. However, little is known about dietary predictors and their interactions with lifestyle on adiponectin concentrations, in apparently healthy young adults.
Objective: To evaluate the associations between plasma concentrations of adiponectin with dietary components and lifestyle in apparently healthy young adults.

A low resting heart rate (HR) would be of great benefit in cardiovascular diseases. Ivabradine-a novel selective inhibitor of hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide gated (HCN) channels- has emerged as a promising HR lowering drug. Its effects on the autonomic HR control are little known.

The malnutrition in early life is associated with metabolic changes and cardiovascular impairment in adulthood. Deficient protein intake-mediated hypertension has been observed in clinical and experimental studies. In rats, protein malnutrition also increases the blood pressure and enhances heart rate and sympathetic activity.

Tonic immobility is an involuntary, last-ditch defensive reaction characterized by physical inactivity in a context of inescapable threat that has been described in many species, including humans. The occurrence of this defensive response is a predictor of the severity of psychiatric disorders and may be considered as an index of an intense reaction to a traumatic event. Here, we investigated whether the retrospective reports of peritraumatic tonic immobility reaction in participants exposed to a traumatic event would modify their cardiac responses to pictures related to their trauma.

Objective: To investigate the association between C-reactive protein (CRP) serum concentrations and metabolic syndrome components in adolescents.
Methods: A cross-sectional population based study was conducted.
