Dichloro(l-histidine)copper(II) crystal ([Cu(l-His)Cl] complex) was obtained by the slow evaporation method and characterized concerning its thermal stability, phase transformations, and electronic and vibrational properties. X-ray diffraction (XRPD) confirmed that this complex crystallizes with an orthorhombic structure (222 space group). Thermal analyses (TG and DTA) demonstrate stability from ambient temperature up to 460 K, followed by a phase transition from the orthorhombic structure to the amorphous form around 465 K, as confirmed by temperature-dependent XRPD studies.

Deletions of the GSTT1 and GSTM1 are associated with chemical carcinogenesis and genitourinary malignancies like bladder cancer, where they correlate with increased tumor aggressiveness. In uterine cervical lesions, GSTT1 and GSTM1 deletions have also been suggested to facilitate the persistence of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and HPV-induced carcinogenesis. This work addresses the hypothesis that GSTT1/GSTM1 deletions are associated with presence of HPV DNA and aggressiveness in penile cancer, a rare malignancy with HPV+ and HPV- subtypes.

The transition toward a sustainable energy framework requires developing innovative methods for fuel generation that utilize renewable resources and decrease carbon footprints. Thus, the review overviews current advancements in solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) technology, specifically focusing on its application in co-electrolysis processes to produce syngas with different H:CO ratios, essential for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. It emphasizes the potential of integrating partial methane oxidation reaction into the electrolysis process.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, scientific authorities were routinely consulted by mainstream media outlets through interviews, statements and/or supporting images. In this framework, our goal in this study was to analyze the media representation of scientists in Brazil during the first year of this global public health crisis. To this end, we applied a research protocol and, using statistical techniques, quantitatively analyzed newscasts on the country's main TV news program, Jornal Nacional.

This article aims to evaluate the sociodemographic determinants of ultra-processed foods (UPF) consumption in the Brazilian population ≥ 10 years of age. The study used data from the personal and resident food consumption module of the Family Budget Surveys, grouping foods according to the NOVA classification of food processing. The classification and regression tree (CART) was used to identify the factors determining the lowest to highest percentage participation of UPF in the Brazilian population.

Introduction: Pituitary adenomas (PAs) are benign tumors with high prevalence and, occasionally, aggressive course. The tumorigenesis of these lesions is not completely understood at the molecular level. BAK1 and BAX proteins play fundamental roles in apoptosis and seem to interact with VDAC proteins, whose expressions have been markedly altered in cancer, impacting their prognosis.

Although heart rate variability (HRV) is a valid method to evaluate the behavior of the autonomic nervous system in individuals with temporomandibular disorder (TMD), the measurement can easily be biased by factors involving the analysis methodology, such as the removal of artifacts. Therefore, the objective of this investigation is to evaluate the impact of using different levels of threshold-based artifact correction to process HRV data in individuals with TMD. This cross-sectional observational study.

The biodiversity of Brazil provides an excellent climate and favorable pollination conditions for L., especially in the Eastern Amazon region, which boasts vast floral wealth, including an abundance of açaí () flowers and fruits. In the present study, seven types of honey were evaluated: three containing floral nectar from açaí (Açaí honey) collected in the Eastern Amazon region (Açaí honey from Breu Branco (AH1 and AH2) and Açaí honey from Santa Maria (AH3), both from the state of Pará, Brazil) and four honeys from different regions of Brazil (Aroeira honey from Minas Gerais, Cipó-Uva honey from Distrito Federal, Mangue honey from Pará, and Timbó honey from Rio Grande do Sul).

Chromoblastomycosis, an implantation mycosis, is a neglected tropical disease that causes decreased quality of life, stigma, and disability. The global burden of disease is unknown and data on disease epidemiology and outcomes are severely limited by a lack of access to needed diagnostic tools and therapeutics. The World Health Organization outlined targets for chromoblastomycosis in the Road Map for Neglected Tropical Diseases 2021-2030, but little progress has been made in initiating and implementing an effective control program globally.

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a disease characterized by high blood glucose levels, known as hyperglycemia. Diabetes represents a risk factor for the development of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's Disease (AD), one of the most prevalent neurodegenerative diseases worldwide, which leads to progressive mental, behavioral, and functional decline, affecting many brain structures, especially the hippocampus. Here, we aim to characterize the ultrastructural, nanomechanical, and vibrational changes in hyperglycemic hippocampal tissue using atomic force microscopy (AFM) and Raman spectroscopy.

A gluten-free diet (GFD) may have a stronger potential impact on reducing cardiovascular (CV) risk factors, according to research evidence. We investigated the impact of GFD on CV risk variables by doing a systematic review and meta-analysis for this reason. We conducted a thorough database search starting on January 1, 2000, and ending on July 12, 2022.

The production of açaí seed waste from the commercial and extractive exploitation of the Euterpe oleraceae palm tree is a serious problem that contributes to environmental contamination and production of greenhouse gases, a fact that suggests the need for an environmentally correct destination for this waste produced on a large scale. To this end, this study was conducted to evaluate the potential of acaí seed biochar (BCA) in mitigating the toxic effects of copper in Brazilian mahogany plants, analyzing biometrics and gas exchange. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, with five blocks, in a 4 × 3 factorial scheme, corresponding to the control (without Cu) and three concentration of Cu (200, 400, and 600 mg Cu kg) and three levels of BCA (0%, 5% and 10%) proportional to the amount of soil in the pots, totaling sixty experimental units.

Background: Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) predominantly affect adults, but pathophysiological changes begin decades earlier, as a continuum, with initial events apparent in adolescence. Hence, early identification and intervention are crucial for the prevention and management of NCDs. We investigated the complex network of socioeconomic, behavioral, and metabolic factors associated with the presence of NCD in Brazilian adolescents.

In this work, we developed a smart drug delivery system composed of poly (ethylene glycol)--poly (ε-caprolactone) (PEG-PCL)-based polymersomes (Ps) loaded with doxorubicin (DOX) and vemurafenib (VEM). To enhance targeted delivery to malignant melanoma cells, these drug-loaded nanovesicles were conjugated to the oxalate transferrin variant (oxalate Tf) and incorporated into three-dimensional chitosan hydrogels. This innovative approach represents the first application of oxalate Tf for the precision delivery of drug-loaded polymersomes within a semi-solid dosage form based on chitosan hydrogels.

Background: Surgical site infection (SSI) remains a challenge in healthcare, contributing to prolonged hospital stays, increased healthcare costs, and adverse patient outcomes, including mortality. Effective preoperative skin disinfection interventions, such as povidone-iodine (PVI) and chlorhexidine (CHG), are widely used but their efficacy remains debated. To address this gap, this meta-analysis aims to evaluate the efficacy of PVI and CHG.
