This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) in adolescents using the item response theory. A psychometric study was conducted with 2206 adolescents aged 18 and 19 years in the city of São Luís, Maranhão, Brazil.

Cognition in Schizophrenia: A Systematic Review of Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale Studies.

To critically analyze the evidence regarding changes in verbal and performance intelligence quotient (IQ) in patients with schizophrenia. An English-language-only search was conducted in the PubMed, Cochrane Library, and LILACS databases for articles with study objectives that included Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) assessment of cognitive functions in patients with schizophrenia. Descriptors were defined based on Medical Subject Headings, where associations of psychotic disorders related to the schizophrenia spectrum were suggested, as well as the "Wechsler Scales" descriptor.

The value of the International Association for the Study of Pain to developing countries.

Since it was founded, the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) has been at the forefront of improving pain research, education, and effective pain management in both developed and developing countries. As IASP activities progressed, major differences between the practice of pain management, education, and research in developed countries compared with developing countries were identified. This led to areas of focus by IASP that included pain education to address poor knowledge of pain assessment and treatment, prioritization of pain management by governments and official national legislation and programs, and availability of pain treatments (especially potent analgesics).

Factors associated with deaths from COVID-19 in a region of northeastern Brazil.

Introduction: There is a need to improve knowledge and understanding of the factors associated with mortality from COVID-19 so that managers and decision-makers can implement strategies to mitigate and control the severe forms of the disease. This study aimed to determine the factors associated with deaths from COVID-19 in the state of Maranhão, in northeastern Brazil.

Methodology: This is a cross-sectional and analytical study with patients with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 who died from March 2020 to January 2022.

Background: To promote optimal neuromuscular and cardiovascular gains in older adults, it seems crucial to investigate the effects of different combined training volumes in this population. Thus, the present study aimed to compare the effects of combined muscle power training (MPT) and endurance training (ET) with different volumes on functional and hemodynamic parameters in previously trained older adults.

Methods: Twenty-five older adults were randomly assigned to either the lower-volume group (LVG; n = 13) or the higher-volume group (HVG; n = 12).

Malignant lung PEComa (clear cell tumor): rare case report and literature review.

Clear cell tumors of the lung (CCTL), or "sugar tumors" of lung, are very uncommon lesions and are mostly benign perivascular epithelioid cell (PEC) tumors with no specific morphologic features. Fewer than 100 cases have been reported; the aggressive nature demonstrated in sporadic reports has rarely been described in the literature. Although the course is generally described as benign, eight reported cases showed malignant behavior.

In this study, we assessed the leishmanicidal activity and chemical composition of red propolis collected from the Amazon-dominated region of northern Tocantins State, Brazil. The MTT assay was employed to determine the samples' activity against promastigotes and their cytotoxicity against RAW macrophages.

Background: Chronic low back pain (LBP) is defined as pain lasting longer than 3 months and is one of the conditions with the most significant social impact. Treatment is complex and includes proliferative agents used in prolotherapy. The mechanism is not known, but osmotic agents (hypertonic solutions of dextrose or glucose) cause cellular rupture and an inflammatory response that releases cytokines and growth factors that lead to scarring and reinnervation.

Objective: This study analyzes the effect of the Brazilian National Oral Health Policy (NOHP) on oral cancer mortality rates (OCMR).

Method: This is an ecological study with secondary oral cancer death data, using interrupted time series analysis (ARIMA, Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average). Annual death data were collected from the Mortality Information System (1996-2019).

Exploring the Efficacy of 6 Preparation Systems for Achieving Minimal Root Canal Transportation: A Micro-CT Investigation.

Introduction: This study aimed to assess the canal transportation with 6 preparation systems.

Methods: Sixty curved mesial roots of mandibular molars were scanned, and their root canals (n = 20 per group) were prepared with XP-endo Shaper, BioRace, ProTaper Next, Twisted File Adaptive, Reciproc, or Reciproc Blue systems. After preparation, a new scan was conducted, and transportation was determined by comparing the geometric center of the canal in 13,542 cross-sectional slices.

Observation of magnetic vortex configuration in non-stoichiometric FeO nanospheres.

Theoretical and micromagnetic simulation studies of magnetic nanospheres with vortex configurations suggest that such nanostructured materials have technological advantages over conventional nanosystems for applications based on high-power-rate absorption and subsequent emission. However, full experimental evidence of magnetic vortex configurations in spheres of submicrometer size is still lacking. Here, we report the microwave irradiation fabrication of FeO nanospheres and establish their magnetic vortex configuration based on experimental results, theoretical analysis, and micromagnetic simulations.
