The toxicological potential of the ethanolic extract from Gomphrena celosioides (EEGC), a medicinal plant used as a natural analgesic, was investigated in acute and subacute toxicity models in rodents. For the acute toxicity test, 2000 mg/kg of EEGC was administered orally to male and female Wistar rats, while Swiss mice received 75, 150 or 300 mg/kg of EEGC for the subacute toxicity test. Animals treated with an only dose of 2000 mg/kg EEGC showed no clinical signs of toxicity, indicating that the LD is higher than this dose.

Background: Hemorrhagic cystitis is an inflammatory complication that can be caused by the administration of cyclophosphamide, which is widely used as an antineoplastic agent. In the search for new therapeutic alternatives, probiotics can suppress the inflammatory process and, therefore, can be used to prevent this disease.
Objective: Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of using Lactobacillus acidophilus NCFM in the treatment of cyclophosphamide-induced hemorrhagic cystitis in Wistar rats.

Dipyrone is an analgesic and antipyretic drug commonly used in many countries. Although generally not recommended during pregnancy, it is known that many women use dipyrone during the gestational period. In this study, we investigated the endocrine and reproductive effects of dipyrone in female and male offspring rats exposed in utero from gestational days 10-21.

Background: Appropriate substituents in the galloyl group could lead to significant biological properties.
Objectives: Novel galloyl-substituted compounds bearing 2-substituted-1, 3, 4-oxadiazol-5-yl, 5- substituted-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl, and carboxamide groups were synthesized and evaluated for their antiproliferative activity. Additionally, galloyl hydrazide (2) was evaluated by performing cytotoxicity, membrane integrity, cell cycle, and apoptosis assays in HepG2/C3A cells.

The aim of the present study was investigate the binding affinity of 5-((4-methoxyphenyl)thio)benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole (MTDZ) with acetylcholinesterase (AChE). We also evaluated the effect of MTDZ against scopolamine (SCO)-induced amnesia in mice and we looked at the toxicological potential of this compound in mice. The binding affinity of MTDZ with AChE was investigated by molecular docking analyses.

An experiment was conducted to validate non-invasive evaluation techniques as evaluation tools for the myopathies wooden breast and white striping that affect broilers, using biopsy as a support tool. It evaluated 30 Cobb 500® broiler chickens in a completely randomized design consisting of two sexes (males and females) and 15 replications per treatment. At 14, 21, 35, 42 and 49 days, the surface temperature of the birds' breasts was recorded using infrared thermography, analysis of fillet depth, and echogenicity by ultrasound imaging.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Psidium guineense, popularly known as "araçá-do-campo", is used in popular medicine for the treatment of inflammatory diseases. Our research group studied an essential oil obtained from its leaves and reported anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. However, to date, the anti-inflammatory actions of the leaf extract have not been evaluated although the traditional folk use of this plant has these indications.

Background: Corn intercropped with ruzigrass is common in Brazil, and it can improve the physicochemical features of soils, increase water retention, and suppress the emergence of resistant weeds and soil nematodes. As both corn and ruzigrass are hosts to Spodoptera frugiperda (the main corn pest in South America), the cultivation of both these plants in the same place at one time motivates investigation into the pest population dynamics. We hypothesize that the intercropping system influences S.

Competition behavior involving agricultural pest species has long been viewed as a powerful selective force that drives ecological and phenotypic diversity. In this context, a Game Theory-based approach may be useful to describe the decision-making dilemma of a competitor with impacts to guarantee its superiority in terms of ecological dominance or sharing of the food resource with its competitor. In an attempt to elucidate the consequences of competitive dynamics for the ecological dominance of these species in refuge areas of Bt cotton, we conducted a study that was divided into two parts.

The aims of this study were to determine the fatty acid profile of meat from lambs fed with different levels of safflower seed (0%, 7.5%, and 15%) and, also, to compare the characteristics of the meat patties prepared from this lamb meat (LMP) with beef meat patties (BMP). The safflower seed-supplemented diet did not change the contents of polyunsaturated and unsaturated fatty acids, except for C22:1.

Glyphosate can generate positive effects on turfgrass maintenance as a form of growth control by decreasing the expenses associated with mowing. However, there is little information about the effects of this herbicide on turfgrasses. This study aimed to evaluate the response of bermudagrass and zoysiagrass to the herbicide glyphosate as a growth regulator.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a group of non-communicable disorders of the heart and blood vessels. Although lifestyle changes as well as pharmacological treatments and surgical interventions are available in many countries, CVDs are still considered the number one cause of mortality worldwide. Hence, considering that most CVDs are caused by genetic and environmental imbalances, micro-RNAs (miRNAs or miRs) appear as a plausible therapeutic option for CVDs as they are able to regulate a wide number of genes due to multiple target sites in different genes.

Characterization of autozygosity is relevant to monitor genetic diversity and manage inbreeding levels in breeding programs. Identification of autozygosity hotspots can unravel genomic regions targeted by selection for economically important traits and can help identify candidate genes for selection. In this study, we estimated the inbreeding levels of a Brazilian population of Murrah buffalo undergoing selection for milk production traits, particularly milk yield.

The aim of this study was to evaluate different post-shock temperatures for tetraploid induction in the yellowtail tetra Astyanax altiparanae. Newly fertilized eggs were divided into four groups, three were submitted to heat shock (40°C for 2 min) at 24 min post-fertilization (mpf) and another group remained without shock (control). Groups submitted to temperature shock were further separated at the following temperatures: 22°C, 26°C and 28°C.

Research Background: Emulsion technology is a suitable way of encapsulating, protecting and releasing hydrophobic bioactive compounds for application in food industries, but they are thermodynamically unstable systems. Good results have been achieved for emulsions stabilized by protein-polysaccharide complexes subjected to high-pressure homogenization. Improved stabilization of oil-in-water emulsions results from electrostatic complexes formed between proteins and polysaccharides at pH lower than the protein isoelectric point, which adsorb at the oil-water interface.
