Motricity Sciences Institute, UNIFAL-MG, Alfenas, MG, Brazil; Postgraduate Program in Biosciences Applied to Health (PPGB), UNIFAL, Alfenas, MG, Brazil. Electronic address:

Introduction: Morphological reorganization in the neural networks of the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) may be involved in the development of chronic neuropathic pain (NP).

Objectives: We investigated whether inactivation and neurostimulation of the infralimbic division (IFL) of the mPFC alter electroacupuncture-induced analgesia (EIA) at 2 Hz and 2/100 Hz in animals with chronic NP.

Methods: Wistar rats were submitted to chronic constrictor injury of the ischiadicus nerve (CCI).

Purpose: This study evaluated the systemic and local effects of doxycycline (DOX) and low-intensity laser (LIL) treatment as adjuvants to scaling and root planing (SRP) in the treatment of experimental periodontitis in rats.

Methods: The sample consisted of 180 male rats (, Wistar), of which 30 did not receive induction of periodontal disease (negative control [NC] group) and 150 received induction of periodontal disease in the lower first molar. After 7 days, the ligature was removed, and the animals were divided into the following groups: NT (no treatment), SRP (SRP), DOX (SRP and DOX irrigation), LIL (SRP and laser irradiation), and DOX+LIL (SRP, DOX, and LIL).

Artichoke has several biological actions, which are related to the synergistic action of its bioactive compounds. Solid-liquid extraction influence the type and quantity of compounds extracted and, consequently, the biological activity of the plant extract. This study aims to investigate which extraction method (maceration, infusion, or Soxhlet) and which green solvent (ethanol or acetone) would be more suitable to obtain bioactive artichoke extracts.

Ketoprofen (KTP) is an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) that has low solubility in aqueous solvents. The use of KTP salts has attracted attention due to its improvements in terms of solubility, tolerability, higher rate and extent of absorption, and faster onset of the therapeutic effect. In this work, a crystalline KTP sodium salt (coded as KTP-Na) was successfully obtained and widely characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), solubility and accelerated stability studies.

Silver-based materials have microbicidal action, photocatalytic activity and electronic properties. The increase in manufacturing and consumption of these compounds, given their wide functionality and application, is a source of contamination to freshwater ecosystems and causes toxicity to aquatic biota. Therefore, for the first time, we evaluated the toxicity of the silver tungstate (α-AgWO), in different morphologies (cube and rod), for the microalga Raphidocelis subcapitata.

Background: Motor cortex stimulation (MCS) is proper as a non-pharmacological therapy for patients with chronic and neuropathic pain (NP).

Aims: This work aims to investigate if the MCS in the primary motor cortex (M) produces analgesia and how the MCS could interfere in the MCS-induced analgesia. Also, to elucidate if the persistent activation of N-methyl-d-aspartic acid receptor (NMDAr) in the periaqueductal grey matter (PAG) can contribute to central sensitisation of the NP.

The industrial processing of crude propolis generates residues. Essential oils (EOs) from propolis residues could be a potential source of natural bioactive compounds to replace antibiotics and synthetic antioxidants in pig production. In this study, we determined the antibacterial/antioxidant activity of EOs from crude organic propolis (EOP) and from propolis residues, moist residue (EOMR), and dried residue (EODR), and further elucidated their chemical composition.

To explore in vivo application of quantum dots (QDs), it is essential to understand the dynamics and energetics of interactions between QDs and proteins. Here, surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and molecular docking were employed to investigate the kinetics and thermodynamics of interactions between human serum albumin (HSA) and CdTe QDs (~3 nm) functionalized with mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) or thioglycolic acid (TGA). Kinetic analysis showed that HSA-QD interactions involved transition-complex formation.

The prelimbic division (PrL) of the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) is a cerebral division that is putatively implicated in the chronic pain and depression. We investigated the activity of PrL cortex neurons in Wistar rats that underwent chronic constriction injury (CCI) of sciatic nerve and were further subjected to the forced swimming (FS) test and mechanical allodynia (by von Frey test). The effect of blockade of synapses with cobalt chloride (CoCl), and the treatment of the PrL cortex with cannabidiol (CBD), the CB receptor antagonist AM251 and the 5-HT receptor antagonist WAY-100635 were also investigated.
